Sensible tips, as always. But I wish that as a society we can move past the point where we feel we have to hide everything that isn't perfect!
Gloria J. Pinsker -I suspect no one cares that much what other people wear. Society changes when more and more people do things that challenge social norms. The big change is making the decision not to hide your arms if you don’t want to. Just a few thoughts.
Hmmm. If I were to hide everything that's "not perfect" about me, I'd better invest in a nice burqua! 😉😁 That said, for me some things are more about esthetic and flattering, and a bit abou what Erin said about feminine and sophisticated. I always had big arms and some sleeves are more flattering than others, or none. My legs are still in good shape, but veins are now bulging and find other ways of showing up, too... so I'm no longer wearing shorts in public. There are other ways of turning off the heat... or _on_, if you will! 😄
Maybe you haven't visited Phoenix, almost no one is hiding anything, and, well, let's just say, becareful what you wish for.
Yes, societal pressure and pure vanity ( my motivator). I did admire the unabashed freedom many European women displayed when I lived in Germany. Most women wore what ever was comfortable and pranced around the pool and locker rooms with no apparent care or modesty, no matter their shape!
Gloria J. Pinsker I live in the hot, humid south, and I’ve seen many women here who go sleeveless during all four seasons ... it’s a personal choice. I agree that we can’t always hide “ flaws”... or what society perceives as imperfect.
Even though it’s not as popular as previous years, I like to do a cold shoulder top. It gives me both sleeves and coolness! 🤗
I agree! Especially for older woman with bat wings! They show the nicer part of shoulder, and that little bit of fabric covers up the bad!😍
I like elbow length sleeves. Linen is a great thing.
Great tips! I like the idea of covering more of the arm to protect from the sun as well. I often do the sheer white shirt with a cami under. At 67, most times I just wear what I am comfortable in.
I always keep my arms covered for a couple of reasons - I sunburn easily and my arms have become flabby as I 've aged - really don't like this ! But I do admire the women with enough moxy to go sleeveless despite having some deficits in that area !
One of the best things that I do and you did not mention, is to wear a lace bolero or shrug over a sleeveless dress or under the sleeveless dress. I still get use of these dresses at age 66 that I would not wear any longer due to arms. This is a great tip for older ladies and it looks great like downtown abbey when they wore a lot of black lace dresses or tops.
Excellent Advice! LOL...Erin, this is my dilemma at 60 years old. My once buff upper arms have gone to pot! After menopause and being diagnosed with MS in 2012, all my muscle tone is only but a memory.
I would like to add one more trick I do all the time to stay cool in the summer. I'm loving the off the shoulder, and cold shoulder trend! This trend has been my best friend for the last few years! LOL... Thank God our shoulders never sag! LOL... My shoulders are all I have left now gravity hasn't ravaged.
I also like to keep my hair short and off my neck. For me, it's keeping my upper body neck and head cool that makes the most significant impact for me. Now I think it is just as cool as a tank top used to be, and my arms stay covered!
Love your videos so much.
You are the best Erin!
Erin, I think one of the best solutions would be off-the-shoulder tops! The sleeves will cover your arms, but show your decollate and shoulders, which usually do not age!! I am 73 and find them extremely flattering.
Trish LovesFashion - that is a GREAT idea! Thank you! xo
I love all these ideas Erin, thank you.Along the lines of the kimono, a light weight cotton shirt left open over a printed vest looks fantastic, or conversely, a printed shirt worn the same way over a plain vest.
Kazberjazz , I appreciate you more than you can know! Thank you for watching! ~Erin xo
You can also wear an off shoulder top with flowy long sleeves!
I love Sleevey Wonders. They are a cropped top sort of thing in a sheer mesh nylon that covers your bra and includes elbow length sleeves. They work great under tanks and sleeveless dresses.
Whoa, you've changed my life! I never heard of this.
I love them also. I wear with sleeveless tops that have too deep an arm cut. So versatile!
Thanks! I need Sleevey Wonders- double my clothes!
One question- r they hot to wear?
Diane Baum Hi! I wear them all the time - never notice them making me warm - the only cover “bra” area and if you get mesh sleeves (as opposed to the t-shirt sleeves) it’s totally cool...😎
Love love love Erin! You always give such sleek, timeless options! 💛
Amen to longer denim shorts Yass!!
GAP has boyfriend linen button ups in basic colors for sale right now! I bought some last year and love them. Just bought a few more colors for Hawaii. Go gettem!
Thank you for the tip! xo
These are great ideas, Erin, thank you!
You are so welcome, Mary! xo
Gorgeous makeup! Please do a GRWM!!!! ❤️
Great looks! Thanks for the inspiration! 🌱
I wouldn't really recommend the beige dress for hot days as it's fitted at the underarm and would show sweat mercilessly. Better option is something that doesn't fit at the underarm. I have some short sleeve shirts I wear open over a non-fitted halter and that really works well on the hot days. I also really love skorts.
Great tips Erin 🥰
You presented some great options! I love that kimono - it's just stunning!
Bijoux Turner in the Miami airport has tie dye kimonos that are thigh length for $12!!
I have about 6 non-iron linen shirts (I still iron them, although they don’t wrinkle much), they are awesome with 3/4 length sleeves. Chic and cool! Thanks for the tips Erin 😍
Great tips thanks! Unfortunately due to autoimmune disease, Ive developed a true allergy to the sun so regardless how hot it is, I have to stay covered head to toe. I wear combinations of long gauze cotton pants, faux wrap long sleeve tops over tanks tops, maxi dresses, skirts, light long sleeve button up tops, and gauzy cotton long sleeve tops during summer. If not too hot I wear cute long-sleeved light tunics or short dresses over leggings. I also wear large sunhats and sunglasses, and lots of sunscreen all over my body but especially my hands and feet.
I am SO sorry to hear that. It sounds like you are making adjustments though and still dressing beautifully! Hugs to you! xo
Thank you Erin! You always make practical videos. This has been my issue for so long.
Not sure if you’re using a new bronzer and/or lipstick, but I love your make up lately. Also, I love it when you record your videos in your house; great, relaxed background. Thank you so much for all the work you put into your very informative channel.
I Love you! Watched several of your videos just today, but you sold me with the line, "...I'm a grown woman!" hahaha YESSS!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked this! xo
Always love your videos and classy choices. Keep on styling, Erin! 😍
I love these looks, my favorite is the kimono. What a great idea!
Thank you for this!!! I definitely want to cover my arms.
I'm working on an updated video on this topic so stay tuned! xo
Thanks very much for your suggestions for tops that are cool but keep your arms covered. I work out and watch my weight but I have hereditary heavy arms that I hate, so I am always looking for ways to cover them. This is a huge challenge in North Carolina during the summer!
Sometimes coverage is simply for being sun safe or when you want a more conservative look. Thanks again for more great tips. X
Great ideas.
Thanks for this. I’m a notorious summer arm coverer!
Hi love the blush jacket you're wearing, where is it from ? Thanks
And... THANK YOU for all your great ideas.
Aha... the rolled sleeve button down! Great idea. So chic! I have another tip: I have three mesh cardigans: one black, one white, and one my favorite color teal. I can throw those on over a tank or a swimsuit and stay cool yet cover my 47-year-old arms.
I lost 120 lbs 5 yrs ago, that on top of being 59 my arms could provide enough material to make a purse. Thank god I have great legs. BTW I bought some great button fly denim jeans that I hacked up making my own shorts customizing the length as I’m fairly tall. Wore them for 2 weeks in Ireland as EVERYONE now wears shorts & Mom jeans.
Happy, happy Birthday, Erin!!!! 231K! Now that's a gift in itself:)) xo Diane
Love that green wrap shirt - so, so pretty!!
Thank you for this video. Broke my humerus in the Fall which required surgery to repair. The scars haven't faded yet which makes me hesitant to wear sleeveless tops. Love these ideas!
Oh wow! Hugs to you! xo
Thank you so much you just answered my previous question from your other video. You are the best lots of love❤️❤️❤️
What a lovely dress! One of the best I've seen so far👏
That is SO sweet of you, thank you so much! ~Erin xo
You’re amazing. Thank you.
All great suggestions! Also great when we go from heat into a/c:)
Erin, you have the most interesting content
Thanks for the video and the many choices you suggest. I still feel given the humidity around at this time that anything tightish is a killer! I have moved thru the stage that renders me shy and now just do my own thing and to hell with the critics. I wear sleeveless, short loose sleeves(the best) 3/4, elbow and long. The temperature calls the shots. Yoga helos.❤
I love kimono 's they are very much on trend and add drama to an outfit. Also, they are sheer and cool just perfect for summer.
You are a so elegant and beautiful woman!! You are amazing💞💞
Thanks a lot for your tips. Kisses from Greece 💚💙💛
Omg love your videos! Super real problems in the summer 🙌
The look with kimono is awesome!! But I can't imagine myself wearing sth with sleeves when the weather is so so hot!!!😘😘very useful advice, though, for women who want to hide their arms💞💞💞
So thoughtful of you, Erin. I love that you always care about all of your viewers, and it's never about how beautiful and smart you are! You also shared that someone commented that you have big arms- you sharing this really helped me with my own insecurities about my arms. I started showing my arms more and more this year, and I started to not worry so much about it. Thank you, Erin. You are one of my favorite humans in the world!
Thanks Erin! Love your content it is all so relevant and I really appreciate you!😘
Happy Birthday Erin!! 😘💐🎂
May I ask, What makes that sheer coat in option #3 a _kimono_? It doesn't have kimono style sleeves (which I love!); and nothing else about it particulary says "kimono!" to me... not that I don't think it's pretty; just not a kimono.
I am definitaly the one covering my arms so tfs!
Could you do a how to dress a skirt (don’t know how to say it correctly🙈). I am not skinny and dont know if I schould tuck in or not to hide my tummy☺️. Want to wear skirts but dont do it because i dont know what to wear on top. 🤗
If you don't mind me jumping in, you could do a half tuck which Erin has shown or you may google, vests are popular now to use now as your third piece that give you coverage in the back area and can be used with skirts and slacks. The vest also gives you two vertical lines which make you look more slim. I often get mine from Dillards, "Gilbert and Latimer". I hope this helps. You have addressed a real issue with those of us who have batwing arms. I hate a lot of knit tops with short short sleeves that show most of your arm anyway. Not flattering at all. Thank you very much!
I never thought it would happen to me. Most fashion godesses forgot the reality of body change. Please give more tips.
Love the We Are Leon duster - please DO keep including higher priced options - love hearing about new brands. Note some of their items currently on major sale on Net-A-Porter
Love your hair so much!
Off shoulder with sleeve in gauzy fabric would work!
Great options! What eyeshadow/lipstick are you wearing it’s lovely- ps glad you moved away from talking in front if a white screen I much prefer the casual homey background!
Erin you can do daisy dukes! Go ahead do some daisy dukes...double dog dare you! Lol You have the body to wear them! I have been doing Sanne Vander 10 min arm workout and it has made a difference. I love her workout videos, I am a vander fit!
I loved the kimono on you, Erin!!! Thanks for the suggestions, and recommendations. Many blessings..MaryEllen
Loved this! BTW, I checked the We Are Leone Website and they have several sheer kimonos on sale! Love what you did with that look.
LOVED this! Thank you!!
I would love when you show a design option, sheer top, that you insert photos of different ideas or examples of ones from stores like target, Walmart, Nordstrom, old navy simple places to shop from
Thank you for this wonderful video ! Fabulous!
Johnny Was has great kimonos too!
Love this ❤️. 2 questions. What Cami and slips to wear in the summer to keep cool? I buy these cool breezy outfits but with a Cami and slips, they are hot again.😭
Thank you for all the wonderful moments you create for us, love your style. This particular topic is something, I am struggling with. For me, any kinda sleeves are stiffening during hot months, especially for a heavier person. And, most importantly, I wonder, yeah, there are flappy area of the arms, but really, why should we cover them? I mean, when I look at other ladies and see the cellulitis or wrinkles, I do not find it unpleasant. It's just a body, that all. But I also see a smile or laughing eyes or whatever else going on.
So, I kinda get it, but I am resisting the idea of covering your body and be ashamed of some loose skin. It's a hard one, because on one hand I love when you point out more flattering outfit for a particular body style. I am completely on board with it. And , I guess, if someone want to cover undesirable area or in the professional setting, these are great tips. So I guess if we could shift the focus a bit of why sometimes we choose to cover. Love all you do, do not get me wrong here. This is just my perspective. Xoxox
The kimono is a beautiful idea! The others I do already, and they aren’t necessarily cool options. I wore a sheer top with denim shorts to the fair and was so uncomfortable and sweaty. I think I might have to deal with bat wings and go sleeveless at least some of the time 🤣
Hm just realised that my dress with cut out shoulders is perfect for this shows a lot of arm but not where I want more coverage .... forgot about that, thanx for the inspiration!
Love this!
This is my first time watching your video and I have to say that you’re so elegant and beautiful! Thanks for the video :)
Love them all!
Thanks for the great tips. I love your advice.
Hi Erin. Thanks a lot. Learnt so much from you! Hi from Brussels, Belgium!
Thank you SO much for watching! Erin xo
Thank you. Love it
This is perfect for me, thank you for the ideas!
Hi busbee I really love your tips especially the summer ones with arms knees and thighs cover and really light and cool gown you look amazing by the way from Ireland 🇮🇪 xx
Thank you sooo much for this video!
Yes to Sleevey Wonders on Amazon!
There is not enough gauze in the world. It is wonderful! It washes beautifully. Cool, easy care. More GAUZE! More GAUZE! More GAUZE!
Got those wedges today. On sale, finally,. Great video as always. Could you do a video on clashing prints? I've started putting some outfits together and loving it. Also there is another trend where you have one dressy piece, i.e., skirt, and pair it with a big sloppy t-shirt, or something like that. I forgot what it's called, but very cool.
I SO agree with you about the shorts! I’m not 16 anymore. At least Old Navy gives you a short length.
I like to cover my arms especially the tops because they're too thin . None of us are happy with our arms . I personally like oversized shirts were I can roll up the sleeves. Cool and comfortable. Love the pink moto jacket by the way ,I have one very similar. xx
All of these suggestions are way to hot for me in the dog days of summer. Cold shoulder or off the shoulder tops are so much cooler.
Erin,
I agree with you 100% regarding shorts lengths.👏
Why ---so short is the question of the day.🙀
Why---can't various lengths be manufactured ???🤔
I think we need ✨you Erin ✨to manufacture a line of designer clothing from your perspective.
You are so educated and experienced in fashion for women.
We need more women designing for women. 👗🙋🏼
I can't imagine wearing anything longer than short sleeves in the summer. It truly amazes me that there is so many long sleeved pieces for sale in the summer. And wow, did you ever hit the bullseye with those short shorts! I like pretty, sexy, edgy, but always modest- and frankly more comfortable. How can anyone stand shorts riding up? LOL! Great video. Thanks Erin.
I love you and your videos!!! you look so good in that pink moto jacket.
Aw, thanks, Steph!!
Long beach cover ups can work too for kimono.
Would you consider doing a video on how to deal with the wrinkles of linen outfits? How to best avoid them, how to still look chic despite the rumples, etc...
Yes!! I just deleted a hair tutorial because my arms were flapping in the breeze :( Thanks :) I needed a few wardrobe ideas. "Batwings at bay!" LOL
Great video Erin! I also do not want to walk around with my butcher hanging out 😉 A lightweight kimono is my go-to, I have found some good ones from Free People
The problem with the first combination is: if you have to cover your arms then you have most likely to cover your legs too, so no shorts . I know that too well 😂
Erin, thanks for those: I like to hide my neck and arms. I’ve been wearing 3/4 collared polo shirts with my favorite capris. It’s like my summer uniform. Someone told me polos don’t really go with casual capris, so, I’m wondering what you think?
I love your new haircut. What do you ask your stylist for?
We have always been able to find the longer shorts and elbow length sleeves.
From South Australia.....use large floaty scarves to drape softly over your shoulders and arms, and a strapless top or sleeveless top underneath. Cool, modest, beautiful. Love from Australia 🇦🇺
Can u put the link for your wedge shoes? Thanks
