How to make GRILLZ at home - CAD, 3D Printing & Metal Casting
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2023
- My buddy Tú asked if I fancied designing a Grill for Instagrammer Charlotte Moran. This isn't something I've ever tried before, but I do enjoy a challenge. I'm no orthodontist and certainly no jeweller, but I have a 3D printer, a basic grasp of CADwork, and a love of melting metals at home. So I decided to apply my lost resin casting approach to Grillz... what could go wrong?
MY THANKS TO...

This is awesome and the result are very cool
Many thanks 😁
Thank heaven for little grillz
Loved that "cheaper to keep her, but I don't have to enjoy her" humor. 😁
Interesting side note, getting reliable ultra-small details to print is more about resin settings and the resolution of the model than your layer height, as you're concentrating x-y resolution over z resolution (or balancing I suppose). I've done lots and lots of figures with fiberhair that is so small, my calipers go negative when I try to measure them and cry out for a micrometer. I would guesstimate they are under.01mm in diameter. That same resin runs on my GKTwo with a .8sec normal layer exposure, albeit with finely tuned machine settings.
To make shape extraction easier with Zbrush, I tend to switch to polygroup display mode, and if I haven't assigned them elsewhere, either autogroup or group by normal and then conglomerate lots of subparts with "merge similar" where needed to break up surfaces into individual polygroups for easy isolation/extraction. Naturally there's lots of tricks to further manipulate a second surface, but that's where I tend to start if I have a good model to work off of already, or one I will make better. 👍
I think you did a fantastic job there 👍
Much appreciated 😁
Omg finally a grillz video
And proving amazingly popular - not 🤣😂🤣
This was awesome great job you should do more 🤘👍👍😬😬
Many thanks 😁
Cool
Absolutely love it. Good to see some casting, mate!
Thanks buddy 😁
Hi Vogman! I bought an elegoo Mars 4 Ultra and I want to know which brand and model of Fep you used instead of the Mars 4 Ultra ACF film in your video that improved the print resolution. Can I buy the normal Mars 4 vat and use it on the Mars Ultra ? It's the same size and fit? Thanks in advance.
For regular resin I found it 10% per .01 layer height down. So my .05 setting of 2.0 is 1.8 for .04 and 1.6 for .03
i have been making grillz for a while now and you did a great job for the first try! however if you do grillz that dont need any stones set into them with premade crowns i would not 3d print them beacuse of the time it takes but i know you love your 3d printers.🤙💯
EEN! Just had to holla “een!”
G'day Geoff! I missed your last few videos, so now I'm playing catch-up. 😁
I've said it before and I'll say it again... you really do underestimate your abilities as a designer and caster! Both the designs are awesome! I hope Charlotte chooses to get both made. Although I do prefer the spider design. I don't know comfortable it would be to wear, but it looks so cool! Great job as always mate.
Glad to hear from you Dan. You've been missed 😁👍👍👍
The consistency of quality you produce is exceptional.
That's very kind 😁
Good job! I just picked up an Elegoo Jupiter so we'll see if I can get as good as you.
Getting as good as me is easy 😁😁😁
@@vogman Any experience with using or making vacuum forming tables? I do a lot of prototyping of PCB's and their enclosures but 3d printing has its limits at production volumes. I'm thinking of trying out vacuum forming and 3d printing the molds...
Been trying to make grillz multiple times now and yours come out even better than mine 😂😂
Practice makes perfect 😁
Hi there I have tried to print out some caps that I have made multiple times but I can’t seem to get the measurements right and it won’t fit on the original mould any help ?
What scanner machine used to scan the teeth?
Awesome!
Thanks!
Pro tip from a custom jeweler, make the suports so u can use than as casting sprues, this make sure you dont bend or demage the resin, and it will fit.
Thanks for the info. If I do another, I'll be sure to give that a try.
which scanner was used to scan the dental stone? Impressively sharp
I'm sorry, I've no idea.
I reckon I could make your "wife" a brand new set of teeth if she's seriously considering it :)
But on a serious note, the grillz are fantastic. Thank you for your help!
Thanks for your support buddy 😁
how do you get from wax to program
Let me see If I get that, On Zbrush, just select , extract and done?, I´m suffering for months trying to make a grillz full teeth (all over), these´s no smooth/polish and nothing else?
Obviously there's a little effort involved in tidying things up, but that's the general principle, yes 😁
At 7:25, do you dip it into water?
If it's a bucket of white liquid, yes, it's water 😁
What IS this CAD logiciel?
That’s a lot easier than I actually thought. I’ll get onto my dentist and ask him for a cad file on my teeth. Hell understand what for because he knows I’m into casting etc. nice video and thank you
If you're handy with cad, here's the easy formula... design - teeth stl = grillz
😁😁😁
Expansion and shrinkage is very hard to master, to get the perfect fit
It’s not that simple lol Perfect fit need practice
Ahaha love your sense of humor. Super cool work. Are you making a set for your wife?
No... silver is expensive 😁😁😁

Bing Bong Grillz King Kong
Real professional dental 3D printers are DLPs and they are not particularily high resolution, micron sizes are something like 95 or 55. 3D printing suits dentistry very well as a technology, there is nothing preventing the use of a good commercial 3D printer for dental applications.
It's interesting. Not because grillz are very interesting, but because fit on anatomical structures and medical applications.
I'm the same. Within a few years we'll be printing metals at home... I firmly believe it. The implications are enormous.
💪🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🇨🇦
The start was cringe, but once past that it was very interesting video. Love things out of the ordinary like this that give ideas at what can be done.
You don't like my wife's tooth? It's one of her better features...
Wow the puns are strong today. #LLVM
Puns? Me? Never... 😁😁😁
Vog I'm REALLY hoping hte line about it being lost to a dog's digestive track is a joke?
Yes. It rolled beneath a cabinet... but that didn't stop my dogs trying to eat it 😁
@@vogman oh geeze! I'm glad they didn't get to eat it. Pets have no self preservation anymore xD
Trust me, I love my dogs and, for some bizarre reason only known to the canine world, they love me. They get more pampering than most 😁😁😁
@@vogman hehehehe I believe ya! My cats are very spoiled lil fluff balls and I adore and cherish every day with them. I'm glad your dogs have you and you have your dogs
How you get a 3d scan of fhe teeth? To upload
I understand many dentists are now providing a 3D scan service
Can you show us how to make grillz in blender? :))))) I would be really gratefull!!!!
Thanks very much. Unfortunately this video proved to be much less popular than I expected... so right now I'm unlikely revisit Grillz any time soon... but who knows 😁
Veg oil grillz man.
Not another name... UA-cam will probably take my channel name away again 😁😁😁
