No because the pen reacts with the iodine in the paper on the fakes and its probably not too hard just to use cotton paper instead of your classic paper from wood
If you examine the blank areas of the Bill closely, you’ll see blue and red fibers as well. This is due to the jean material used in creating the paper. This is true for all US currency. It’s easiest to see when the bills are newer. Just another key security feature!
Thanks for this video, needed to confirm my suspicions on a bill at work i thought was fake. It was very fresh and the bills still stuck together, the bill felt a lot thicker than a normal bill and had a weird texture to it and wasnt soft at all. It had no colouring at all, like an old bill but again these were unwrinkled fresh sticking together so that caught my attention. On closer inspection the 50 in the bottom left corner in the front was blurry, like it was low resolution. Looking up in the light at it, there was no security strip or hidden face at all. Told the guy I didn't want to cause a scene and he can pay for what he was trying to buy if he could provide another form of payment (work somewhere without the pens or protocols to react to these situations). Would feel dead awful if i turned the guy away and I was wrong lol. Glad I made the right call, thank you :)
Any bills before 1990 won’t have a strip. But since it was unusually thick and it looked blurry it was probably fake. Bills will never look blurry. That’s usual a result of just photocopying money.
The 50 dollar bill strip will glow yellow on both sides. Interestingly, on one side, you can even see the letters on the strip without shining the light through the banknote.
I found a 50$ bill today wasn’t sure if it was real or not so I didn’t wanna take it into the store so this video was very helpful the 50$ bill turned out to be real!
Great job, Rob! You missed just one important aspect of the fifty: the blue background to the left of Grant's portrait there are two faint stars, one each to the right and left of the Federal Reserve seal. There is additional microprinting on these stars which says USA Fifty all over the field of the stars in blue ink. Tonight I was walking my dog and I found three fifty dollar bills on the ground! So I raced home to find a UA-cam video to see if they were real and sure enough they are! Check your bills for this additional microprinting that you missed. Otherwise awesome video!
Didn’t know about the texture but one of the things that is harder to reproduce for counterfeits is the little randomly scattered red and blue fibers throughout the bill. You have to look closely but the surface should have a scattering of those threads on every denomination. It means once again that it is real money paper and likely that it was minted/not bleached but doesn’t guarantee its the correct denomination. As tellers we check just about all of these in quick succession if we suspect its counterfeit... though obviously people aren’t too keen on bringing counterfeit bills to a place that has the most skeptical eyes.
Also, when he used the microscope you'll notice the background colors of the bill are created by the repetition of a geometric shape. Each bill denomination uses a diff shape. And the lines are always perfectly parallel and equidistant from eachother
Is the signature of the treasurer the correct current signature? I have a $20 at work that one of my employees just called and said she did the "tests" that I've showed her such as the ridged collar and there were no grooves. She sent me pics and I noticed the signature. My Lumis machine wouldn't take it but there are other reasons for it not to take bills sometimes.
One quick question please : Do I have to check all those signs or just one of them is enough ? Is it possible that I might find all those and 1 of them is excluded would that make it fake ?
Does some of the dollar bills from the same year have some inconsistencies with the placement of the face of the president when you shine the light and the lines saying “USA 50” to the right of the presidents by just a couple of inches?
I have a pen that I use for business! Today, all the bills marked good (yellow gold) but one. It didn't mark a dark brown though. It's a dark yellow. It's weird. It's like the color mark is between good & bad. I came to this video and all the options you went through checked out. Do you know what may have caused this?

I was paranoid there was something wrong with it. 😂😂 now I know it's fine so I can exchange it at the bank. Thank you so much.
I always check the texture of the coats, as real bills all have textures. According to my manager the pen is only 40% accurate. That's because people will scrape the ink off of real 1 dollar, or 5 dollar bills and repaint them as 100's. That's the 1%, high end counterfeits though. I got yelled at by a dude a few days ago for checking to see if his money was a counterfeit, as I do with every bill. The reason I checked his dollar is because it had a hole right where the hidden face was. So I held it up to the light to see the hidden face, and to see who it was. It was the correct face for the correct bill. So It was a real bill, but he yelled at me nonetheless. I make it less obvious now by checking the texture of the coats, but if your bill has a gaping hole right where the hidden face is, I'm gonna check it 😂
High end counterfeits don’t wash $1/$5’s etc. that’s like a drug addict method for someone with a $30 inkjet 😂 they source a paper without starch or make their own paper without starch. They can also use lacquer to prevent the pen from ever reaching the starch (like modern counterfeiter Jeff Turner). If the paper is thin enough you can use 2 pieces of paper and print a side on each piece. Then on the back of the back you can print a strip and watermark. If you make your own paper you can 3D print a Benjamin Franklin stencil a couple millimeter thick and do the same for the “USA 100” (or source some pre existing tiny letters) then use adhesive to put it on the mesh of your deckle and mould (paper making device). Then when you make paper it’ll be thinner in those spots thus creating a watermark Benjamin Franklin and watermark security strip. There’s also ways to beat the iridescent numbers on the bottom right of the bill, getting the security strip to glow the right color under a black light, etc but if you want to learn more about that look up the Jeff Turner interview on Koncrete YT channel. Dude made over a million in 1996 series 100s using an inkjet printer and blank Bible paper. Usually a really high end counterfeiting ring will also get an offset printing press to get fine quality imagery. But if you get a really nice digital camera with a good macro lens you can also take a bunch of photos, clean it up in like photoshop/GIMP, assemble it all together, then make really good looking $.
@@RobSomeKnowledge the fastest way is getting use to coloration (low quality photocopy ones fail this a lot) and feeling the texture on the historical figure’s suit. The magnetic ink on the black work gives it a raised texture.

It needs to be correct watermark. Some people will bleach a $10 bill and print a $50 or $100 on top of it. Will still have a watermark but will not be an authentic bill. That’s why it’s important to pay attention to detail. Also if you’ve ever looked into famous counterfeiters there have been people that have made some pretty realistic looking watermark fakes.

The note in this video is real and original
It's Real.
In the American flag design of the 50, two of the stars are actually micro printing that say “USA 50” over and over again
Got watermark means that ITS real
It needs to be correct watermark. Some people will bleach a $10 bill and print a $50 or $100 on top of it. Will still have a watermark but will not be an authentic bill. That’s why it’s important to pay attention to detail. Also if you’ve ever looked into famous counterfeiters there have been people that have made some pretty realistic looking watermark fakes.
