    In the manga and storyboards, dead Mami, Sayaka, and Kyoko are show as Walpurgisnaught’s minions. Meaning Candeloro (Mami), Oktavia (Sayaka), Ophelia (Kyoko) and possibly even Charlotte (Nagisa) are part of Walpurgisnaught. Meaning, Walpurgisnaught most likely *wanted* Homura to turn into Homulily.

    Madoka is only shown defeating Walpurgisnacht in the last two time lines. Due to her making her wish after having her power increased by Homura's time traveling. That extra power is what allowed Makoka to destroy Walpurgisnacht in one shot in the timeline previous to the final one. In their final encounter, Madoka doesn't so much destroy the witch but, instead releases all the magic girls from the curses that turned them into witches. I'd agree that Homura probably has just as much potential power as Madoka, based on her having been shown to have just as many strings attached her as Madoka has. I think that Homura can't access that extra power, due to her wish having been made when she was much weaker. However, after Madokami rewrites the universe, Homura's wish had to have changed as a consequence of those alterations. At the end of the show, Homura no longer has her shield. How did that happen, and why does she now have a bow? Was it Madoka's idea or Homura's? The extra power that Homura acquired, could help explain how she was able to do what she does at the end of "Rebellion."

    • @bobmcbob49
      @bobmcbob49 5 років тому +30

      The difference with Homura's power is how it's manifested.
      With other magical girls, it usually directly translates to more firepower, but Homura is the only one that doesn't use magic offensively.
      Whatever power Homura gained from the timeloops must have manifested differently. Maybe it has something to do with her time stops or storage ability, though the limits on either were never defined in the first place.

      I think on the netflix subs Kyubey said he didn't know, but didn't believe it was a single girls grief that formed this witch.
      While WN is a mystery to even Kiubey, he does use it as a catalyst to to get madoka's major witchhood.
      Ironically, though, the very existence of the WN was the source of ruin for the Incubators. The first WN caused the despair strong enough for a timelooping witch, and after almost 100 loops lead to the two wishes that ruined everything for the Kiubey. So it's my theory that WN is more than 1 magical girl whose ultimate curse was aimed at the Incubators, rather than their own source of grief

    Something you said implied that the Walpurgisnacht's power doesn't increase with every timeline, but it's already canon that it does. Homura's doesn't (which is fine because she uses manmade weapons anyway) because she wasn't the focus of the wish. The focus of the wish was Madoka's death at the hands of the Walpurgisnacht, so those 'strings of fate' tie only to Madoka and the Walpurgisnacht. It's canon

    There are many ways Walpurgisnacht can exist:
    1) Isn't a Witch at all, but an Uwasa.
    2) Could be a creation/result of Goddess Madoka and/or Devil Homura, thanks to a time loop that, once began, has no clear start or end. Walpurgis exists to give them the destiny of Godliness, but Walpurgis herself only exists because of said Godliness in the first place.
    3) Is someone we don't know.
    etc

      Uwasa: no; she existed before Nemu, and matches the Witch-style more than the Uwasa's
      Madoka-wish-combination theory: no, because that universe just... doesn't exist anymore. That timeline ended when Madoka rewrote the universe and destroyed the old one.

    Could also be Kyubey amalgamating all the grief seeds he's collected throughout history into Walpurgisnacht. He says he hits the energy quota he needs once Madoka defeats Walpurgis in one of the past timelines. Maybe the Incubators simply devised a way to use up latent grief seeds that have been used up once before. Speculative, but up until then, there have never been any reports of Walpurgisnacht throughout history or even on her way to Mitakihara. She simply pops out of nowhere.

  • @drosera88
    @drosera88 5 років тому +25

    Walpurgisnacht is an artificial witch created by the Incubators. At the end of 'Rebellion' we see that Kyubey is made into a substitute for magical girls. Just as the Incubators devised a plan to see if witches could be created by isolating Homura's soul gem, they eventually figure out how to use and combine the curses within Kyubey to create a witch. They learn to replicate Homura's time travel powers (the gears) to send this witch back in time to a place where they feel it will alter the future in a way that resets the past. It's not quite there yet, and has probably happened many times before, but it's close, as now Homura is in a form that can no longer travel back and forth in time, forcing Madoka (who is still a god, but just doesn't realize it) to destroy Walpurgisnacht without the interference of Homura. Madoka will once again sacrifice herself to defeat Walpurgisnacht, but will do so viewing Homura as an enemy, rather than a friend, meaning Homura will not be able to interfere and change her fate as she did before.

    For some reaspn, I always guessed Nacht was either Devil Homura from another universe or, for whatever reason, the first girl God Madoka purified in the manga--that girl was the first shown to be purified was theoretically the most recent one interacted with as she went backwards to the start of the first girl to ever become a magical girl. The further proof I assume is that maybe Nacht is a manifestation of lingering despair from magical girls and that this girl is the closest to the climax of overthrowing entropy to take in the most.
    This is all a guess based on what my guesses were before watching the video. I am sure I've forgotten certain things or even confused some things, but again, it's a guess.

  • @Kennyjake

    It's pretty simple to explain that Walpurgis Night is merely Homura. You described Walpurgis as being the witch who spins hopelessly, which if you think about it, sounds a lot like Homura spinning her clock hopelessly in an attempt to save Madoka. It is only when she strays from trying to save Modaka that Walpurgis is defeated, in both times. When Walpurgis is defeated, there are seemingly 32 witches dancing in harmony, which can be said as a metaphor to their being alike, as in unison. My theory is that Walpurgis is the essential add-up of Homura's 32 reversals in time. Evidence for this is in the Rebellion version, as where when Madoka becomes a witch, she does not turn into anything. In fact, she is seperated from her soul, which turns into a witch as stated specifically when Sayaka does. So, when Homura turns into a witch, her body is spared because she is already or inevitably a demon, so her soul becomes Walpurgis, repeating her wish to rewind, which is hopeless, hence, the 32 accumulations of hopeless time warping.

    • @oddtom6959
      @oddtom6959  6 років тому +42

      Every time Homura spins her clock, she does it with hope that she can save Madoka; she never spins her clock hopelessly. To be hopeless would be to just give up, which she almost does near the end of Episode 11. In order for her to choose to go back in time and try again, she had hope.
      This doesn't address the paradox: If Walpurgis is Homura, then how could it exist before Homura was a magical girl? We can't say that it happens because it has already happened, because then we could say that Homura would never have to turn back time at all; Madoka in another timeline has already saved her.
      Walpurgis is defeated during the same timeline that she nearly gives up, but correlation doesn't equal causation. Remember that Walpurgis was also defeated in another timeline during episode 10, which ended very differently.
      The rebellion movie takes place almost entirely within a barrier created by Kyuubey to observe the law of cycles. Homura does not inevitably become a demon, but becomes one willingly when she decides to embrace her despair as feelings that are dear to her rather than reject them.

  • @olliethebunny2539
    @olliethebunny2539 5 років тому +69

    Actually, Walpurgisnacht MIGHT be Homura. I have a theory.
    So Homura's wish was to redo her meeting with Madoka but be strong enough to protect her. However, Homura did not specify what she wanted to protect Madoka from. And here's a keyword: REDO her meeting with miss Kaname.
    The word redo hints that Homura has changed her destiny so that all she will ever do is repeat timelines until she can no longer fight. She was able to protect Madoka from everything EXCEPT Walpurgisnacht.
    My theory is that Walpurgisnacht is a time traveling witch. Despite the fact that Homura was not a magical girl before Walpurgisnacht existed, maybe the first timeline ever was when Homura possibly could not remember being a witch or even magical girl?
    Maybe there are countless other timelines. My theory is that Homura begin as a regular girl in the "first" timeline, but Walpurgisnacht existed from previous timelines. Here are some theories for timelines BEFORE the "first timeline." Maybe for each timeline Homu created before the first timeline, her soul gem from that timeline became muddy and turned into a witch anyway, living in that timeline. Since Homura would proceed to create another timeline (as the same person) she would create another witch. Since Homura is ONE person skipping from timeline to timeline, her new witch would combine with her previous witch to make a stronger witch. And she would continue making timelines, until all of her witches grew so powerful that they became Walpurgisnacht. So every timeline made Walpurgisnacht more powerful.
    Now is where something happens.
    In one timeline, Homura dies in an accident (While fighting Walpurgis) before she can make another timeline.
    Since her destiny is to redo timelines, the timelines do not stop there just because Homura is unable to create more timelines.
    Now is where Homura's and Madoka's destinies interfere.
    Since the timelines in my theory are looped like a bracelet, Madoka's wish will come into form and erase Walpurgisnacht, so technically Homura couldn't have died in an accident.
    Even though Madoka erased Walpurgis, Homura's destiny is to redo timelines forever, so Walpurgisnacht is an essential being for Homura's destiny.
    So because of this, a new timeline creates where Homura has NO memory of all of the previous timelines, and feels as though she is a normal girl. She is not a magical girl because she died, but she will soon become one because of her unavoidable destiny.
    However, since Madoka and Homura's destinies exist in the same world, Homura will see her future/past witch: Walpurgisnacht.
    Think of Walpurgisnacht as a figure from the future. Because the timelines are looped like a bracelet, Walpurgisnacht has no beginning or end anymore. She can be anywhere, and will always come back because of Homura's destiny. Her powers are fed with each timeline Homu creates.
    All because of a stupid white alien cat.
    I know rebellion interferes with this, so here's my more simple theory about rebellion.
    REMEMBER? IT HAPPENS INSIDE OF HOMURA'S SOUL GEM. Sooooooo yah.
    However if Homura had not died or anything but had simply returned to the real world, everything would be the same for Homura, because of her destiny. But for Mami Kyoko and Sayaka, I feel like they would be living separately from Homura because her destiny is to fight herself to protect a being that is no longer existent on Earth for all eternity. Mami Kyoko and Sayaka would get to be human.
    However, Homura managed to change her destiny be stealing Madoka's powers. Since she can do anything she wants in the world, she can now change her destiny because Madoka never did change Homura's destiny.
    Although Madoka and her wish were both powerful, Homura's destiny stayed the same because if both wishes came true, (Homuras was basically to redo timelines forever) and Madokas (to erase witches from everywhere) the law of cycles would be rewritten. Which they were. What I'm saying, is that Madoka and Homura's destinies/wishes had to exist in the same world for Kyubey's promise of the wish coming true to remain true.
    Madoka, despite all her powers, is not responsible for Homura's destinies. Still, only Homura could change her own destiny.
    Also here are some things I noticed:
    Walpurgisnacht rose up in flames after Homura almost defeated her. Homura means flame...
    Walpurgisnacht's theme is gears and circles. This is Homulilly's theme (The witch inside of Homura's soul gem, AKA a tiny section of Walpurgisnacht) as well. It also represents Homu spinning around in circles and repeating her time forever.
    Also, Homulilly's theme song is Theatre Of A Witch. Walpurgisnacht's theme is also a theatre.
    Notice that both Homulilly and Walpurgisnacht are missing their eyes.
    It is also possible that Homura might not directly BE Walpurgisnacht, but be about 90% of her, considering Walpurgisnacht is the combination of a ton of witches. But I think that Homura is about 90% of Walpurgisnacht, and also created Walpurgisnacht's theme.
    If some part of this theory did not make sense, let me know and I will try to answer questions the best I can. However...
    Wanna make a contract?

    My biggest question is … when a magical girls soul gem becomes tainted causing them to form into a witch, just what comes of the witch? Is she just an entity that is full of negative emotions that spreads to normal humans without her knowing that she’s doing so … or is she harmfully negative towards others simply because she wants to spread her misery because she knows that it will harm others? Does she know her misery harms others or does she believe her misery is a cry for help?
    Now that I’ve analyzed that I believe that madoka became the strongest because she believes that witches seek sympathy, and empathy and they aren’t witches just to make others become consumed by their negative feelings. Because witches don’t have a power source right? They don’t grow stronger if they have not a weakness right?

      @@NapaCat There is no or. It is confirmed.
      I read what you were talking about anyway. Her design isn't theatrical, it is more expected of the image of a Witch in pop culture. Therefore, that is the subject, and will likely look more typical of pop culture the more fusion there is.
      This does lead to an interesting idea, wherein Walpurgisnacht's fusion with other Witches could have perhaps changed her appearance and attributes to also average out to being between the original subject, a theatre, and a pop cultural witch.
      And even more so when we consider that Homura's Witch naturally takes the form of a pop culture witch. This suggests that the idea of witch fusion leading to an averaging out of attributes between the original subject and pop culture witches stems from her. Or, that she carries the weight of the world's despair, which makes sense due to the power of just who she is missing, which explains why her witch form changed between entries.
      Woah, thanks for all the inspiring ideas!

      @@wilderbeast9368 I do not think the base Witch is Homura. She never had the ability to absorb witches or anything like that. Witches can grow stronger, but not just merge without either PM help or a preexisting ability. And besides, that universe is _dead_. Madoka rewrote it, making it into the current one; AKA it doesn't exist. The Law of Cycles still exists; Madoka isn't a part of it anymore. And besides, Homura never could really seem to time travel to before or after that one moment.

    "The power of friendship" Say, I've been having this thought for quite a while, since this show is supposed to destroy the "Magical Girl" anime stereotype, and since the power of friendship is always an element present in those, what if there was actually some yuri (a few references to an actual yuri in some anime scenes) in the story, just to wreck the idea of this cliché "power of friendship" that occurs so often in the Magical Girl genre?
    Would be quite convenient, not gonna lie.

    I like the concept of Walpurgisnacht being Homura's witch. However I always thought karmic destiny was something that increased within Madoka because she was never allowed her "destiny" of becoming a magical girl and dying cuz Homura kept resetting. So Homura wouldn't have as much karmic destiny because she isn't deprived of her destiny by going back, she remains a magical girl and everything she does in each loop is technically all within "her own timeline." That's what makes sense to me anyway.

    Here my theory why homura can't win walpurgisnacht and not walpurgisnacht
    Well homura was fighting with walpurgisnacht with alot of weapon that made by human(physical weapon)
    but she can't beat walpurgisnacht at all(madoka can with just 1 blow cuz that weapon is magic weapon and she have charge so many magic) and i know you guys will say Hey what about the title?
    WELL WELL! the second question is easy because she use hax(not really lol)
    we have seen that her witch from is homulliy(from games and movie)and if she is walpurgisnacht why don't her soul-gem surfer
    and turned black? Well i don't know but i think that she used her power to break the law of magic so it never happend(aka IT'S JUST WORK K?)but im pretty sure that walpurgisnacht is not homura cuz walpurgis send to eliminate living things and get more power to Q-bey(FAXING PIECE OF PHIT)

    Thanks for giving me another reason to hope Walpurgisnacht is NOT Homura!
    My original reason has more to do with power levels: Homura Akuma, who rewrote the universe, should become a witch on a universe tier, whereas Walpurgisnacht was country tier, at best. A seemingly unstoppable disaster, existing for centuries without destroying the world or even society. Homura becoming Walpurgisnacht--who was weaker than Madoka's original rather than divine Kriemhild Gretchen--would be a serious nerf.
    My new reason that you gave me is the causality paradox of Homura becoming what made her become a magical girl to fight in the first place.

    She is the powerful witch that destroyed the entire land… that was the witch that threatened all of society and not just merely one person which is why homura became a magical girl to save madoka after failing her attempt to defeat the witch. With that being said this is the witch that the original madoka kaname was supposed to defeat during the original lifetime because that witch is just like any average witch that the magical girls must defeat since it is their duties to carry out their job as magical girl. So originally the witch was stronger than magical girl madoka and homura was powerless against the witch during their battle, so homura went back in time to “save” both herself and madoka (and even society) from death. What looks a witch to homura and madoka, only looked like a very bad storm /tornado or just out right catastrophe amongst normal people. But homura being a magical girl only saved herself and even trapped madoka into a loop… and homura still couldn’t save madoka either way

    5:07 why was Mami's power ineffective against Charlotte?

    • @BwahahahaX3MyBananas
      @BwahahahaX3MyBananas 2 роки тому +6

      Charlotte’s nature is tenacity and persistence, which we see in her snake form that constantly sheds layers and chases something she likes. Mami’s ribbon could only tie down something fairly stable and slow to move, where as her gun only does so much damage in one shot and cannot penetrate the core of the witch, like with Homura’s bomb. Even if she didn’t get chomped, they would have been a long battle because Charlotte would just have been able to escape by shedding more and more layers and dodging/shedding off bullets, not standing still enough for a Tiro Finale. Charlotte has basically the best skill set to counter Miami’s tie down.

    Even though this theory has been disproven I would like to add something. Walpurgisnacht's nature is helplessness which I think ties into the fact that homura SPOILER ALERT cannot stop madoka from becoming a magical girl and save her.
