As an Asian man, I wear a Mandarin suit. Very comfortable. No ties required. I wear loafer shoes - not bedroom slippers. If airplane crashes and everyone survives, I don't want to be caught wearing bedroom slippers on the runway running away from the plane.
If the airplane crashes you will be splashed few miles radius.
I wouldn't worry about slippers - nobody's gonna know what human tissue they belonged to.
Love the “I got bored”.
I mean . . you know . . pilot stuff blah blah blah 😂
My father is a retired airline pilot. We always dressed nicely when we travelled standby when I was growing up because we were “representative of the airline”. I never quite got over that, and I’ve never been able to be “schleppy” when I travel. Good to see others with the same type of travel “uniform” 😎
The clothes that airlines require their employees and employees of other airlines to wear can vary from airline to airline and class you are flying. I know my husband and I got 2 first class seats from Hou to CUN. At the time he was a Delta Connection pilot. We were given the first class seats over an employee and travel companion because the travel companion’s outfit didn’t meet the requirements for first class.
@@_itzastro4931 I was not allowed to fly once because I wasn't wearing nylons back in the day :) I still like to dress nicely in case I'm moved to first class (my father is also a retired Delta pilot).
I became an Airline employee in 1970. I worked for three different airlines, and then eventually for two major travel agencies. Over 40 years of non revving. I love dressing up. I loved having my kids all dressed up with my son in a sports jacket beginning at age 18 months old through his early twenties. My daughter always in dresses. When the airline's relaxed the dress code, due to the general population dressing down so we would blend in, I didn't like it.
I swear by my Superga Classics as well for the airport! They are the heaviest footwear I carry in my hand-carry so naturally I wear them on my feet. They go with every outfit I pack.
“I got bored and I’m not sure exactly what he said”…..just a spot on and lovely description on my married life. Going to be 50 years in 2023….survival! And we are flying 1st class to Vegas for a wing-ding blowout…can’t wait to get my travel outfit arranged!. Thanks for this vid!💕
I love wearing compression socks on my flights! And, i also change into some kind of slippers for long haul flights…Thanks for your tips and links!
“Scott told me, but I got bored”🤣same girl...every time my husband excitedly tells me what he did to the car
I also think that dressing nicely on a flight offers respect to the flight crew, not unlike dressing nicely to meet a friend for lunch. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean that you should pull out a cocktail dress, but wearing dressed up casual. Looking like a bum doesn’t earn you any brownie points anywhere.
I totally agree that when you find that unicorn outfit that is comfortable and stylish and "fits in" at your destination, you wear it all the time on the plane. The best part is that no one knows you wore it on your last plane ride too!
It's so true!!
Charles, why would someone give a damn what outfit one had worn before? Just doesn’t matter in the scheme of things. Glad you agree. Extremely trivial, IMHO!
I’m a fan of J Jill , classy and good quality . Also love Eddie Bauer , their outdoor clothing are awesome .
LOVE this!! 👍🏼 I'm glad to see more people out there care about what they wear on the plane! I'm the same way, be comfortable but please wear appropriate things.
I'm a bit surprised her pilot husband did not tell her about safety in air travel clothing. One should wear only organic fabrics like cotton, wool, etc. If there is a fire, synthetic fabrics will weld to the skin and cannot be surgically removed as can organics. (Other tips: most accidents happen in landing or near runway--the plane breaks apart, those near the front are nearest the engines and the fracture point, so try to reserve seats in the rear of tbe plane. Get out as fast as possible--unbuckle yourself first and a dependent child only after you have the mobility to save both of you. The tiny flame or smoke puff you see up nearer tbe engines becomes an all-consuming fireball within mere SECONDS (remember the damaged oxygen containers on board)--if you don't risk broken bones by jumping ASAP to the tarmack, you will likely be incinerated. Except for securing your child, a crash landing is not the time to try to aid any of your fellow beings--altruism will almost surely cost you your life...
@@starrbowie8649 Wow!! This is just a bit too much....that's all I'm going to say....
@@TheMKgal لا حول ولا قوة الا بالله
What in the world are you taking about!!!!!!?????
@@starrbowie8649 , this was not the time to discuss safety. Also, why would you assume that Jen’s pilot husband has not discussed safety with her? This was all about comfortable and reasonably priced clothing for travel. Starr, you went overboard!
@@SandwichLady If clothing for plane travel is the subject and the author says nothing about the relative safety and dangers of certain fibers/materials, I think it's unconscionable not to try to warn people. I can see your point with regard to the other safety tips being off-point, however. Decades ago, soon after a couple of horrible crashes on airfields, a mainstream newspaper ran an article with all the points I raised, so I have grouped them in my mind. Also, I haven't seen any of these points raised since then in any popular forum, so I thought I might as well mention them. If the writer's husband did inform her, why didn't she consider cautioning her readers? Comfort, attractiveness, and safety are not incompatible qualities in clothing. While I can see your point about the tips not all being directly on the subject, I am somewhat puzzled that you dismiss the tip about safe CLOTHING and that you can only fault me for taking the time to type out info that I clearly intend to help protect people with. Were you aware of the info I conveyed before reading my comment? Do you think it is commonpllace? If you can say "yes," your reaction makes more sense to me. I would be glad to know that many people are aware of these factors in plane travel--I just haven't seen it. If you would answer "no" to my two questions, I think you might benefit from considering why you emphasize what values motivate your objections, which include no acknowledgement whatsoever of my clear intention to possibly save lives.
I agree with everything Jen says about choosing flying outfits and want to add my $0.02. I pick tops and pants for the plane that will not easily show spills, drips, or crumbs. Because the airline blankets are usually dark & fuzzy, I also avoid clothes that are light-colored or lint magnets. Final tip for any flight longer than 4 hours: COMPRESSION SOCKS. The light pressure socks are comfortable. Your feet, ankles, and calves will feel better even if swelling is not an issue for you. If your feet and ankles tend to swell on long flights, then wear the next step higher in compression. You can wear compression socks under your regular socks, and then remove at the end of the flight if a warm weather destination.
Yeah I always wear compression socks too 👍🏽
I'm a huge convert! I grabbed mine for an 18h flight and they were essential but now I wear every flight!
When travelling in the US during the summer, I tend to wear Old Navy stretch (running) leggings, tee & a Duluth Trading stretch, wick-away shirt (for warmth & comfort in the AC) & sneakers 😎
So glad you mentioned the bare feet! That totally freaks me out! I hate seeing small children running around stores barefoot also…all the germs! 😱
I love wearing my Lululemon Vinyasa scarf it’s saved me so many times. It’s an infinity scarf with snaps and it can open to a blanket, shawl etc and tied a bunch of ways. I always wear it on the plane and use it as a blanket and then on vacation it’s good for cold restaurants
Rose, I do the same :) so handy for travel!
But nylon just isn’t cosy.
I travel with the same scarf!
This is going to sound weird but when I have a long flight I like to wear black scrub pants and a long sleeve tee of some sort. Then I layer my favorite cardigan. I love scrub pants because they are very soft, roomy and easy to navigate in the teeny tiny loo AND super simple to care for when using a public laundry area - just wash, dry and go!
I love that you included some scarves! A lightweight long scarf (like the first one you showed) is a must-have on all flights for me. I find that it helps so much with the draft from the vents.
Loved everything! These are outfits I would wear and comfort is key. Hope you have a great trip!
Loved this. I remember a flight to Mexico that I absolutely froze on. Very good tips!
My airplane outfit is always the same. A cotton tshirt dress. Leggings underneath it. A lightweight open cardigan. If it gets hot cardigan and leggings come off. If traveling to Orlando so much easier to take leggings off under a dress than change into shorts. Also I won’t wear anything that you have to take off by pulling over my head. I may or may not have elbowed my seat mate once trying to do that. And always small sneakers and socks!
LOL yes. That's a thing. And the leggings under a dress thing I've done too - great call for FL!

Great tips!! For security checks, I wear footies over my socks or 2 socks. After the checks, I remove the footies, and store them in a sandwich bag. Remaining socks go back to my shoes.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hears Charlie Brown’s teacher when my husband explains something tedious. 😂. Hello from Macon!
Great suggestions! J. Jill are my go to pants for travel also. So comfortable!
I enjoyed your video and your style is very classy. Thanks so much.
Great tips! Thank you. Love the wardrobe choices :)
Great advice. I am going home to England for a vacation soon. We are taking backpacks which means minimal packing. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing. Nice suggestions/recommendations. Love it.❤️👍🏻.
love your choices! age appropriate AND stylish!
Very helpful thank you I plan to travel soon and happy to come across your video
Always struggle with this! Thank you, Jen!
Really useful! Thanks for the tips.
This was very informative! I have so much clothes to choose from but I wanted to make sure I have the right clothes to dress appropriately on my plane flight.
Wonderful! Thanks
I miss the air travel attire worn in the 60s. I loved that people dressed up a little more, but were still comfortable. I always thought that added to the mystique and elegance of flying. Nowadays, people wear grubby jeans and the airlines serve no food. It's sad what became of air travel.
Yeah no I wouldn’t want to be cold and uncomfortable in an long flight and i wouldn’t wear any make up either, the airplane is there to bring you to your destination not having an chic hightea and gossiping and you probably wouldn’t dress all fancy in an bus or tram either
@@collettediva2001 I miss those days when flying used to be a classy way to travel. Too bad! Too many torn jeans ... wrinkled and grubby clothes where no one one cares how they look. Another sad end to an originally classy mode of travel. However you feel ... I miss the dressier type of air travel. When you're meeting someone at the airport that you havent seen for a while and you know you're looking good. Not like you just woke up from a long fitful sleep.
My mother had her hair styled and bought a beautiful outfit for our flight to NY in the 1960s. I got a pretty outfit too. Everyone was so classy back then. People are trashy nowadays.
@@pegatheetoo1437 hmm nah even if it’s for a few hours, I want to be comfortable, no way would I have to need to wear some pants suite. Flying may of been a upclass th8ng to be able to do back then but so glad it isn’t anymore.
@@triciacooper9317 no it’s actually called wanting to be comfortable and not having to live up to others ideal just to get on a flight. Unless a women has a business meeting after they land, they don’t want to deal w their hair.
Another great video. Absolutely love your channel. Big fan
Enjoyed your video which just popped up and looked interesting. Yes, it was helpful and I plan to travel soon. It's been hard during covid but I must go and see family and all the exciting things happening in their lives. I love that you are from Dunedin, me too. I moved there in 1956 as a child and graduated in 65. I love reunions and meeting up with old friends. Thank you for the travel hints, you have good taste. Enjoy your summer.
I have the pink clover shirt in gray and I love it!
Makes me excited to start updating my wardrobe!
Honestly that's what I did when I planned out this capsule wardrobe and it was great to buy quality pieces. I spent a little more but the whole slow fashion thing (buying well made pieces and keeping them forever) is sitting really well with me.
Watching your vlogs are great! you are informative yet funny! for example, regarding your husband, "tried to give me some technical explanation as to why it gets cold but i got bored and i'm not exactly sure what he said'. LoL...loved it.. I believe in comfort traveling all the way. I always pack a scarf just in case i get cold on the plane too and like to look chique depending on weather.
Flying into ATL for a conference soon. This is comming at a perfect time!!!!loved all the tips. Thank you so much!
Love your video. Thank you for the great tips. Always best to put your best foot forward where ever you go.
Comfort and fabric quality are a must when considering my travel outfit.
Loved the video , wished more people watched it because they totally need to have a dress code for flyers.
Ohhh sweet ,thanks a bunch for sharing
Great advice! Thanks 🙂
Thank you for all of your excellent advice! I love your personality too!
That’s so kind!! Thank you!
The barefoot dreams cardigan is a must for me. I use it as a bathrobe. Plus I try to dress for arrival, so I can throw my cardigan aside when we land. I try to wear closed toe shoes on a plane & bring flip flops on the plane.
I totally agree with you. I am more comfy with a longer top, and leaving socks on while going thru security. Flip flops are a no, no also!
Thank you for these tips
Love your Chanel and great tips.
This is very helpful, thank you.
Tieks! I'm always a fan! Love this video!
I am just loving this channel and couldn’t agree more with the short shorts comment. They’re actually very rarely appropriate to wear anywhere!! And yet they’re so common
Great post thank you!!
Thank you for your insight!
Quite interesting! Thanks.
Merci! Vos vidéos sont claires, précises et pertinentes. Je comprends très bien votre anglais ,car vous articulez bien.😊
These would totally work for those of us who travel by car as well. Love this video.
You're right they would!!! THank you, Cyndi!
All the thumbs up to that Eddie Bauer packable jacket. I purchased it when you first showcased it several years ago on one of your European trip videos and it's one of my best purchases ever.
And it's not even very expensive! Seriously LOVE and so glad you got it, too!
Got mine at Costco, even less expensive. They also carry "travel pants" by Eddie Bauer or under their private label, in crop and capri length, that are wonderful!
Great tips. You gave me an idea!
Wear your jeans on the flight.......such a great tip for this girl 🙋♀️ who also travels with carryon (my husbands preference as he despises the wait at the carousels)...packing has begun for our WDW trip in November. Yay! Enjoy your Disneyland trip and safe travels!
The long shirt is good also, because you don’t want your stomach hanging out when you put your bag in the overhead compartment! 🤣
I hear this!
Thanks for this video
Lovely video as always, Jen! I expect I’ll be rewatching this video when I fly to Paris in December!
I've never been in December but I'm sure it's GORGEOUS. Happy planning!
@@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge thank you Jen! No doubt it will be beautiful. :) I’m very much looking forward to the trip because I can finally visit my sister who is completing her masters program in Paris! By the way, I used the Eddie Bauer link but it didn’t seem to work (said site maintenance). Just so you know!
1. I love that you did this video - I also have strong feelings about this!
2. I never ever wear anything pale on a flight because once I wore a white T-shirt and cabin crew spilt coffee on me. I was so embarrassed at how awful I looked with coffee stains for the rest of my travel day!
3. I like wearing a smart & comfortable wide leg trouser so I can easily put my flight compression socks on just before we board/when I’m in my seat as I find them quite unpleasant to wear longer than I have to!
#travelgeek
Love this so much! I’m a leggings and sneakers kind of traveler 💗
You know when a detective on tv arrives at a crime scene and puts on disposable booties? That's what I think we all need for using airplane bathrooms!
Oh my gosh, this is such a good idea! I have some from carpet cleaner. I am putting them in my bag right now!
Love your video !😊
Great tips. ❤️😘
I can remember flying to Italy with my grandmother and every single time my mom would book the bulkhead because "extra leg room!" and every time people would line up for the bathroom and my grandmother would yell, "a--es in my face! All 9 hours, a--es in my face!" So thank you for reminding me of that.
Lol I mean she wasn’t wrong!😂
@@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge This was also perfectly timed because I am taking a red eye next week and my plan was basically pajamas for the plane and then change in the first airport bathroom I get to. I used to do it in the airplane bathroom but after the horror of my pants touching the floor I can't do that again.
I’ve done a lot of overseas vacationing so I totally agree w layering in the airport/plane.
There’s just nothing worse than being cold on an airplane!
Great tips
Thank You so much, I will definitely follow your advice on plane ✈️ travel. New subscriber!😃
This is my 1st time hearing about tieks and after looking into them I have to have a pair now because how adorable they look ! Also they really look comfortable especially if your going somewhere that is going to have alot of walking involved!
Very helpful 🤩
Just happened on your channel and love your content and personality! Will be binge watching other videos! As a former (VERY former, probably from your father's era) flight attendant, I would add to the NOT to wear list FLIP FLOPS!!!!! Soooo gross and bad in an emergency situation.
Love your personality, such a vibe! Instant sub!! 👏🏽❤️
Thank you!
I'm just starting to get back to flying more frequently, so this was very well timed for me. Thank you for the advice and links. Wishing you a productive, joyful, and peaceful week leading up to your trip "home" to Disneyland!
Thanks so much, Melissa! Happy travels!
Thank you very helpful
Love this video! Totally agree on the shorts thing! Thinking of your skin touching the airplane seats grosses me out! I love your more stylish tips. I usually just wear my jeans with a hoodie.
He tried to explain it “and I got bored.” Ha. Sounds like me! Looooove it!
I love my Scottevest hoodie! Like wearing a blanket…so comfy, and I personally love all the pockets! I’ve never understood how people wear shorts and flip flops on a plane. I would be miserable.
I just love your personality! And I also feel strongly about what you should wear on a plane! I always see people wearing things like heels or barely any clothing and just wonder why? Just why?? lol. You need layers, you need comfortable shoes that you can run in if need be. Heaven forbid your plane has something bad happen and you need to get off quickly or even worse, have to get off quick and are in some remote terrain. You just never know! I feel like the Boy Scouts "always need to be prepared!"
Genius idea to bring the flats to change into on a long haul flight!
I’m watching this later. I really find buttons up my back are really uncomfortable for sitting for a long time. The shirt is adorable.
Thank you
Thanks
I have the same Bearfoot cardigan for my flights! Love it!
I saw they were on sale for the anniversary sale and almost bought a different color. Love so much.
Nordstrom has many racks and different styles! I was there today and I bought packing cubes at your suggestion! Going to Europe for 2 weeks with a carry on. 😳
Do you remember the style scarf you purchased? I have been looking for a Burberry one for YEARS and that is the style I love. Thanks, Jen!!
thank you
We just flew Delta with a layover in ATL and I may or may not have been hoping you or Scott would pass by! Thanks for sharing!
Hey, it could happen, Hannah!
I really want a Burberry scarf too! I’m not working right now, but will be going back to work soon, and it’s at the top of my list to get one! Can’t wait.
It's great to have a goal like that - it's motivating to save and the satisfaction when you can finally get it is a big deal. Hopefully you won't have to wait 30 years like I did!
I have those J Jill pants, they are the best
I totally have that first top from Stitch Fix, with the buttons down the back. Same color even. :-)
Because you have great taste!
superb and informative ,where is that jacket from as I would love one for men ,I live in South Africa and we cant find anything like that especially that one can fold into a small little bag ,i loved it
New to your channel, love the content and have just subscribed, totally agree with you as regards to short shorts 😱. I do hanker for the days when air travel was so ‘romantic’, suits, hats, gloves - not very practical these days I guess but very Pan Am 😊. Going to watch a few more of your videos now. Thanks 🙏
Love your style.
Thank you, Ebony!
Now I am dreaming of a sophisticated destination: Europe or New York City! Great tips. Second outfit is amazing and you looked amazing!
Thank you, Claire!
Many years ago I saw an episode of Oprah - don't remember everything, but the guest gave tips on flying. She said don't wear anything flammable, or that exposes skin (shorts, etc.), and she even said don't wear hairspray. It stuck with me. My "go-tos" are a track suit or jeans, and layers of shirts with a jacket or a hooded sweatshirt.
Yeah the thing is you're far more likely to be involved in a fire in a car than an airplane so this advice feels very strange to me. Also, my husband is an actual airline pilot and they don't advise this even for them.
Coming to Atlanta next weekend, Oct 1 to 3, for Georgia Romance Writers Moonlight and Magnolias conference. I hope it's cooler than here in Charleston, SC.
Great tips!
We should have some great weather in the way! Enjoy!
