This is what all hikers and campers need to know, 20 years of shovel recces in the Mil this is the first time iv seen this explained in such a humorous way "Release the Kraken"....lol.
Awesome video lol. No squatting for me. I got a collapsible stool (1.5 lbs), cut a 5x5 inch hole in the seat, attach a compostable bag. Dig cathole and bury it. If in an area where you can't dig/bury, its already in a bag for packing out. When I get to camp, I have a stool to sit on.

U use the duce shove wrong like I did 😅😅😅 try sawing the hole with the handle. U can cut threw roots with it and the other side is okaish comfortable compared. For getting the soil out u turn it into normal position again.

I use a bidet but also take a roll of toilet paper. The use biodegrable brands so i NEVER carry out. Dig hole and use biodegradable toilet paper use the bidet and clean up again with toilet paper and bury it. And always use soap and water guys. But these personal preferences

I never used two plastic bags. I generally have a supply of old or reused big zip lock bags. When I go backpacking I bring one of those with a paper bag inside. At least I can recycle the inner bag with used tp.

Like I get the whole pack it pack out, but I think mother nature sheds a tear when you use TWO PLASTIC bags to remove something that has been happening outside for all of time minus the last 200 years or so.
Mother nature said it's OK as long as you only single bag it and then sneak it into the most annoying co-hikers pack when they are sleeping

Bidet only works if you use a hand, or at least something for the peanut butter. Room temperature water at 7 psi does not clean peanut butter off a porous surface. There are literally cultures on earth where there is a hand you never touch for that reason.
You are most vulnerable when you are doing this. This is why your dog follows into the bathroom.

can you talk about how this would be adjusted for going with several kids? You give each kid their own tube?
What do you think about pact outdoors?
Is there a guideline for how far off the trail you go, or how far from a water source you should be? Also, that wag bag seems like an AWFUL lot of plastic waste just to pack out something that's pretty natural. I'd argue that burying, along with burying some biodegradable TP, is the much more eco-friendly option. I might keep a wag bag in the glove compartment, however, just in case of a really long traffic jam.
In Ontario we have to pack out our TP by law, maybe the whole load, I don't know for sure. I can't fathom how dumping more plastic in a landfill rather than just burying some TP is better for the environment. Should we agree on a system where we leave a stick there afterwards poking straight up to show people the area is occupied?

Actually hand sanitizer, when used appropriately, is more effective and efficient than soap at killing germs. Soap is better at grime and debris though, for obvious reasons.

Why can't you bury the paper in the same hole? If it's not a wet wipe it'll rot safely with no trace
Yeah I thought that was interesting. I’ve always buried my tp, though I’ve heard some places require you to pack it out
it's because toilet paper can take 1-3 years to break down in the woods not to mention lasting affects of some of the chemicals. So, if you are going to bury it in the woods, then at least get biodegrable toilet paper which breaks down quicker. Althouh, it still takes longer than when you flush it down the toilet and gets chemcially treated at the sewer treatment facility.
Animals often will dig it up, and then there's tp all over the place.
What about when you gotta go where there's no cover😮
Only a few minutes in, I realized that for thousands and thousands of years people have been pooping in the woods, without doing any of this. There were no bottle bidets or even toilet paper. This is simply quite amazing that it has come to this

While I agree about being responsible and making it so everyone who wants can enjoy the out doors, the irony is not lost on me about using a lot of plastic to be thrown into a landfill.

Thing is, there weren’t 8 billion of us at the time, and thus also not as many hundreds of millions popping in the woods.
Definitely do not do anything near a water source !! And consider other people by going a considerable distance from the trail please and thank you 🙏
Great video! I understand that it’s priority we use those bathrooms that are at trailheads and provided to us, but a lot of times they smell so bad that it’s unbearable to be in there, especially pit toilets. Any tips for that?

Toilet paper is made from trees. So wouldn't it make sense to burry it and allow it to decompose because it is paper, aka wood pulp, aka trees. Maybe I'm overthinking this
