This is so far, I think, the most level-headed, un-star-struck and therefore the most touching of the interviews you have given us. What a wonderful, undemonstrative, perspicacious man is Professor Küchl!
Professor Kuechl was the Leader of the Vienna Philharmonic in the concert which literally took me to the decision to be a full-time conductor. A splendid Bruckner's 8th Symphony with Zubin Mehta conducting. I will never forget that Klangbogen-Konzert in Vienna's Musikverein and the excitement I had to listen that splendid unique body of musicians playing my favourite symphony (of which Haas' edition I gave the Italian prémiere in 2013, some 12 years after this experience). And getting out of the Golden Hall, after 30 minute applause, I bumped into Profesor Kuechl and I symply told him THANK YOU FOR YOU HAVE DONE TONIGHT (he was very tired but very kind): the merit of the performance almost totally stood in his abilities (and in Wolfgang Herzer's, the principal cello). This is why Mehta took the last bow in front of the jubilant audience grasping the two men's hands from the podium, I will never forget that moment. It was the start of my new life.
Well, I have the rather odd honour of being laughed at by Prof. Kuchl. Solti and the VPO came to Toronto, did the Italian Symphony and the Eroica. My wife got me a front centre seat, which was very excellent of her. For the encore, Solti turned to the audience and said they were going to play Die Meistersinger Overture for an encore. I must've jumped 10 feet in the air. I sat back down with a beet red face and Prof Kuchl leaned to his left and whispered something to his colleague (probably that I was some crazy man about to jump the stage). They actually played Die Fledermaus instead... but still, I got Solti's autograph downstairs (Mahler 6 and Das Lied von der Erde) and went home shocked that I'd seen "the real thing". What a memory. God Bless them all and thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I've written about that elsewhere about Japanese Kyudo🎯 on the philosophy of Karajan's conduct. see you later.
@som Slovaak Don't worry. Since last week, I've been selecting the equipment for a certain recording. It's you who have to take medicine. By the way, I'm worried about the stupidity of your brain, which can only be done in Japanese, here. You're the one who keeps staying in the ultimate stupid den, right? Du bist ein echtes😰 Kind.Ww🤑
What an orchestra...that oboe is an acquired taste but HvK knew how to balance the unique sound of the Wieners so well. His brief Decca period produced some fantastic records with these guys.
I have admired Rainer Kuchl for many years. Please where are the English subtitles? My German is only tourist. I love the Wiener Philharmonic. Best Wishes to Professor Kuchl from English lady.

Another insightful interview. Sehr gut!
Maestro. Legend. God
15:34 good imitation of Karl Bohm's voice :)
Good? PERFECT! And it is mind-blowing how he managed to do it so perfectly in such a short sentence! He has certainly a great ear.
A very important comment about what a chef conductor is.
Maestro.Gerhart Hetzel would have said the same.

whahaha !

Madama Butterfly by Verdi? Annamo bbene....
