Picked one up for canon after your review. Already got it. It feels like it's a part of the camera when mounted. It's just right. So much fun and easy to use. Never thought I would just put the R7 in my jacket pocket and take off, but now that's totally what I'm doing.
That's fun!
Darn it Dustin! You just HAD to show me a silver one that would be perfect for my little silver Fuji X-E4. Your costing me money every month!😂
Excellent presentation ! It is a real treat for our (my wife and I both love to take photos) Fujifilm X-T2
Thanks for sharing!
Another interesting lens from Loawa. I had their 12mm 2.8 FF for Sony amazing lens but a bit heavy. This one will be a favorite for rock climbers and hikers for sure! Looks like it's hot over there all the best Dave :)
That's a good application for the lens, for sure.
Great little lens - just what I needed for Nikon Z30.👍
For sure.
Thanks fot this very professional and inspiring review ! Dominique from Paris
My pleasure!
🤟Great lens, thanks for your in detail review
My pleasure.
Basic question but just wanted to make sure before commiting to this lens, with the lack of electrical contacts on the back of the mount does focus peaking still work with the manual focus?
Yes it does.
Ohhh this is what I have been waiting for. Affordable tiny UWA for my Fuji
Exactly.
Have you been happy using this lens? Would you recommend it?
Thanks for your review ! Do you think this lense can resolve the Fuji 40mpix sensor (X-T5, X-H2 or X-T50) ?
Oooh, I don't know. I'd be surprised if it looks great on resolution that high
@@DustinAbbottTWI Thanks, you think the TTartisan would be better on this sensor ?
Nice review!
Do you know, does this lens physically fit to Nikon ZFC?
I'm not overly familiar with Nikon products, but if the camera has a Z mount, the lens will fit.
I waiting for Laowa 12-24/5.6 review.
Another great informative presentation. Look forward seeing the price.
Aren’t they priced at $299 USD ?
The price is $299
A typically practical and interesting review.
As the ( USA only- there are other countries that view your reviews) if correct, makes the lens excellent value for money. At the asking price stated in the review text, this is a great candidate for my Fuji X bodies.
Given the huge number of Sony apsc bodies in use worldwide, were there any engineering constraints preventing the production of a Sony apsc version - huge apsc market?
Hi Robert, I'm a little confused by your question, as I actually tested a Sony E emount (APS-C) version.
@@DustinAbbottTWI My apologies, clearly I wasn't paying sufficient attention! Mea culpa.
Watched a few of laowa 10mm review n this is the only one that talks abt the hyper focus. I wanted to get this lens, set hyper focal at f4 n shoot. Probably this lens not for me after watching the video. Thanks for the detailed review
Glad to help out.
Can anyone asses, if this prime pancake, and the sony 20 2.8 pancake are sharper, optically better, compared to zoom tamron 11-20?
Tamron is bigger, but it is a zoom, which is more comprimised?
I own the sony 20 2.8, and considering something wider.
I would use it outside, low light is not a prioity, quality is.
Would Tamron zoom outperform the Sony pancake? Or would it be on par with the new apsc wide lenses (viltrox, sony) stepped down?
Or keep the sony 20 and add another wider, primes perform better?
Thank for any feedback!
The Tamron will (slightly) outperform the Laowa pancake (and the Sony), but its obviously quite a bit bigger.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Thank You for the answer! And for all Your super useful, informative work!
How does compare to the Laowa 10-18mm full frame lens regarding sharpness?
This would be sharper at similar apertures.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Thank you Dustin! Always a pleasure exchanging info with you. Take care
We need something like this but for full frame so i could fit it in my pocket. But its good that it exist on apsc (it should be as same length as handle of ff camera)
For full-frame i use the voigtländer 10mm heliar. This lens is amazing and is electronic connect to your camera-body. But it's exist no version for Canon, Nikon or x-mount
@@WU_Foto nah its not what i was thinking about nor the size nor the fl (I mean its 10mm! This is 15mm). I would like for lens to be sane length as handle to make it more boxy and fit better everywhere like this kinda does on apsc
There really hasn't been a lot of pancake lenses released recently, so definitely.
Looks like a great addition to a light travelling setup.
Definitely!
🎉 It’seems worth to buy??😅
Thank you very much for the text review !
I like that the Laowa 10mm are so compact and I like that it is fully manual, though electronic contacts would be very nice, I do not like the very strong vignette, so maybe it is more a Lens for MTF Cameras and 20mm equivalent.
I'm not sure I agree on it only being useful on M43. The vignette is correctable, so I certainly found it useful on APS-C
@@DustinAbbottTWI I do think that ultra wide angle Lenses are much more difficult to design for best possible optical performance for small sensors than they are for large sensors, that is why I do not use Cameras any more with APSC or smaller sensor.
Typo in the title
Thanks - corrected.
Spelled Laowa wrong in the title ;)
This lens look very interesting and i was shocked to see it's not a fixed f4 as UFO lenses are
More useful when you can change the aperture, though!
The price is reasonable for the performance of the lens. The optical performance of this midget surprised me. However, the strong vignetting and the lack of communication with the camera body bother me. Thus, the support for image stabilization is also missing. I use the Voigtländer 10mm hyperwide heliar with both full frame and APS/C. I only have low vignetting and with the A6500 I also have image stabilization.
If you set the focal length for Steadyshot manually on the A6500 (to 10mm) it should get stabilized.
Vantrakter is right on the image stabilization point. The Voigtlander is also more than 3x as expensive...
Strange and interesting lens.
That's often a Laowa headline.
My brother
:)
If it was F2 or F2.8, I would love it.
That's fair, though it either wouldn't be this small (likely) and would also be much more optically compromised.
