That would be so awesome to see the Queen and the President at a baseball game!!! I am sure it was an experience for the Queen and Prince Phillip as well. And even though we don't have a royal family in the US, I think the fans appreciated and respected her. I am glad they were so welcoming.
H.W. Bush was quite a youthful 66/67 in 1991. Easily could've been mistaken for a man in his early fifties or late forties.

I grew up in Baltimore and I'm pretty sure this was also the last season for Memorial Stadium @ 33rd St. in Waverly. Damn I miss the early 90's. Man time goes by so fast. Barbara Bush is gone, Bush Sr. is gone, Prince Philip is gone and now Queen Elizabeth II is gone. They looked so young in this video and now they're all gone. I don't even want to go through the O's list and A's list in this video to figure out who's gone because it is just too much.

The American game of baseball has its ancestral origins from the English stick-and-ball games of rounders and cricket. Somehow, it’s rare to see Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh to attend the A’s/Orioles baseball with President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush back in 1991.
I am honored that Queen Elizabeth stepped in Baltimore, wish they had moved to Camden Yards early enough for her to see that.
The A's won 3-6 despite the fact that the only home runs were by Orioles Randy Milligan and Craig Worthington. Bob Welch got the win over Jeff Ballard. Eckersley saved it.

I saw on a documentary when the Queens mom and dad visited the United States in 1939, they got to visit with president Roosevelt and were hosted at a picnic and someone said, "You can't serve hot dogs to the King and Queen of England," and they said that is exactly what we are serving. And it turns out the King and Queen had a great time and loved the hot dogs!

I understand you are not supposed to shake the Queens hand, but it really is an American thing. This is awesome!
You are allowed to shake her hand but you must wait until she extends her hand for a handshake. You're not supposed to touch her hand unless she first extends her hand to you. Touching the Queen anywhere else is a huge no-no. Michelle Obama made a huge faux-paz and she wrapped her arm around the Queen, forcing the Queen to reciprocate with a hug back. The American media made out that it was the Queen who initiated the hug, it wasn't, it was Michelle. As a Brit, I will say I cringed so much at that. The Queen is just an ordinary women yet she is our figurehead. Putting hands on our Queen is the same as putting hands on all of us. I know we Brit's are a little weird at times, but it is our traditions. Speaking during our National Anthem is also a huge no-no. Barrack Obama obviously wasn't told this though and proceeded to speak through our national anthem. The Queen had to tell him to wait. I wonder if our Queen will ever visit your lovely country again. At 4:30 the commentators discuss the removal of hats, and one says "it's not the American way". That statement is not true. It is a universal custom that men remove their hats when meeting a lady, as it is for a seated gentleman to stand when being introduced to a lady who is standing. Even if the Queen wasn't there, it would be basic good manners for the players to take their caps off when meeting the First Lady. Parents in the USA used to teach this to their children, but the exercise of good manners has been diminishing. Just look around and notice the number of men keeping on their head-wear in some of those televised megachurch services, during the playing of the national anthem, in restaurants, even students keeping baseball caps on while being taught in the schoolroom. Fortunately there are still a few men & women who remember some of these tenets of civility and are passing them on to the next generation.
Yes and I remember being taught never to extend your hand to a Lady. If she wants to shake your had let her make the decision.

Thank you! I had the exact same feeling. And the players and coaches aren't "bowing" or "scraping" to anyone or anything-- Every person greeted her exactly as they chose to. The Queen actually prefers less formal greetings.

Because this was a royal visit to the United States, and Baltimore was the closest team to Washington DC at the time.
One of the commentators said that he likes when they keep their cap on because it wouldn't be American to do too much in front of royalty (or something like that). But I was raised with the notion that when one is greeting another person especially an older one, a man (it's different for women) should always remove whatever is on his head as a sign of respect. I did it when greeting our elderly neighbour. I took off my knit cap while saying good evening in the cold Canadian winter. He pointed out how he really appreciated the gesture. It has nothing to do with republic vs monarchy. But don't start losing an ear just to be polite lol.
