I wish APR would provide a tune for high-flow catted downpipes. DTR seems capable, but severely held back due to the stock downpipe. Side note, that IS F looked fantastic.

I have a GTI with this APR kit and I’ll probably go with a custom tune at some point in the future. I agree that an upgraded downpipe and a different tune might be an improvement. I wish it had just a bit more midrange, if the power came on just 750rpm sooner I think it would be more useful. But she rips up top!

@@mnypitValid point, I like to think of the power band as more “intentional” - you’ll never accidentally let it rip when the party starts at 3.5-4k lol

@@mnypit I'm fortunate I have the fueling option from APR for my R. I'm going to have that installed, along with mounts, APR's full charge pipe suite, and maybe throw on a catted downpipe to see what the hype is about.

That looks like the same Lexus ISF that I ran on 270 North and beat him and I'm only IS 38 and APR tune 93 octane APR high torque file

How has this been holding up reliability wise? was looking at getting a GTI and wondered how aggressive tuning does. You seem to race it a good amount, any issues so far?

Not anything that wasn’t related to my own stupidity. Still running strong though.
APR Stage 1 tune is great, but the APR tune for this turbo is just is OK l. It is severely handicapped by stock fueling, for which you need a custom tune unfortunately, because APR doesn’t offer one for the GTI (only the R). Even the tune for the R Is nerfed by APR’s weak LPFP upgrade that can’t keep up with the MPI when running E85.
The off the shelf APR tune is fine for most folks, but to truly max out this turbo you would need MPI, LPFP (brushless), 5 bar MAP sensor, downpipe, COBB AP, and a custom tune.

@@CarbonDub About that... went with the manual. On the truck right now, should get here tomorrow . Been reading that i may need a clutch upgrade even for stage 1 due to slipping (Sometimes right off the parking lot). But hearing that you aren't having many issues with the car running stage 3, is giving me a lot of confidence in the EA888 reliability.

Do you know if the turbo kit comes with the tcu tune?

    • @CarbonDub

It does not come with the TCU tune, just the ECU. But they only charge for a reflash if you already have an APR TCU tune, which I did.
