Oh god, you poor bastards. Fighting rust! I remember my old minis & Anglias. So I moved to S. California & just got an 88 Vanagon, no rust underneath at all, just a few spots of surface corrosion around the windshield & gas (petrol) filler. Come out here, cars outlast people!
Big Job! I'm doing rust repair on my channel too, grabbed a rusty 67 Mercury Cougar for cheap. I'll keep an eye out for your progress, it helps motivate me :)
funkolog thank you! I can’t remember where we got ours....you can also get air powered ones! www.machinemart.co.uk/p/edge-setterjoggler-with-hole-punch/?da=1&TC=GS-010122046&gclid=CjwKCAiAzanuBRAZEiwA5yf4ugiU2EMaKN09OrZtQwlNwONdzC6ofqYa4ydWeXjuUnmQLsO3uQS_9BoCoCUQAvD_BwE
@@_Tristan_ Thanks for reply! I already have them, the cheaper version made by Extool. And I have to say: people, don't buy cheap tools.. your Clarke ones are better quality. Mine don't really like the 1mm sheet that Bus is from. And the pliers have a 5mm punch, but for welding 6mm+ is better. So I don't use them much. 2:30 - Means that the repair panel so bad that it has to be modified that much..
Awesome video! Im looking at replacing my rear arch as well, very helpful! I like the idea of flanging, and spot welding. How did you fasten the sides, spot weld from the inside?
Boba Nofat so the panel comes coated in a rust proof primer, the panel was then painted from behind to protect the panel. The outside was coated with a etch primer. And then painted over which can be seen in later videos. We were very new to body work/welding panels in so I’m sure we did some stuff wrong along the way(part of learning)
Your vids are a real insight to watch regarding renovating any vehicle. Great work. Im looking at buying a T25. Few questions where did you learn to weld, do body panel work and did you buy any replacement panels and if so were these second hand or are they still produced? Thanks
Mark Tomlinson first of all, thanks for the lovely comment! Never taught to weld, all self taught. Just practice 💪 buy one, you won’t regret it! We bought all new repro panels, heritage parts centre is the place to go! If you ever get stuck, just message me, my insta is trizzle_photo
The VW T3 is badly protected against rust by design as well as by manufacturing. Seam corrosion is everywhere and was not controlled by VW, every T3 has it. There are no plastic inner mudgards. The stone chipping has free way in the wheel bays and on transverse members under the floor. There are a lot of spots where mud can collect (stays wet, will corrode for sure). Example: longitudinal slits in the sills allow dirt and water to enter, and collect in a dead-end. This is precisely above the outer rear suspension bolt a, 3 mm steel U-section rusts through from inside to outside. The first years of the T3 production were handsprayed, demonstrating large variation in quality and the metal was not protected by any zinc layer. The outside underfloor has primer, but an ample paint-layer., it shines through...(!) The same quality we observe in the inner forward corners under the dashboard. (Check your T3!) The T3 was ment as workhorse for self-employed workers or small companies and intended to write off in say, 5 fiscal years. It is not a quality car, but just an average car. Of this project the least attention was payed to the corrosion protection. Survivor-T3s are only camper cars which see the road for 1 month a year and are parked in a shed the rest of the year.
Great work. 👍
Looking forward for more videos, i have spent countless hours welding my T3 :)
Hello from Germany- thanks for doing!

Princess Trojan means a lot! Thank you :)
@@_Tristan_ Not a problem, I have an 86 T25 and can't wait for the weather to improve so I can get started.
Good video. I'm going to be doing some similar work pretty quick here. A little afraid of what I'm going to find lol.

Can anyone help me on how I can access replacement parts, such as pimping parts like grill,lights..etc..
Heritage parts centre here in the uk are great or brikwerks are also great.

when making that lip and weld on the overlap - how do you prevent it from rusting? i do not notice any weld primer,

Hey i have a Question. How did you repair the rusthols under the rail for the sliding door? At minute 2.10?
GoWesty has a great video about that on youtube
Double slider!
karabaskarbofos we love it!
I bought a ‘68 Camaro with rust problems. Cost my oldest his senior year with his car. Rust is a bitch
Your voice was not so clear...could barely hear what you were explaining
Thanks for the feedback 👌
Interesting ... but ruined by irritating music.
