  • For the 2006 season, the Elk Camp area of Snowmass was majorly renovated, with this 8 person gondola with a mid station, and a new Assay Hill lift. A new Meadows beginner lift would come the next year. Before this, one could take the Wood Run Triple, a 1973 Riblet or ski down out of the Snowmass Center to the old Assay Hill, a 1969 Riblet double. Then, you would ride Funnel, a 1969 Riblet double. Interestingly enough, Wood Run was removed in 2005, so Assay Hill was the only real route in 2006. This new Gondola was built by Leitner-Poma, and used their OMEGA system. Elk Camp uses standard towers, mid 90s - 2000s tower heads, but the 6 pack and bigger version with the extra bracing, 80s - 2010s sheaves, and OMEGA grips. The lift also uses CWA Omega III 8 LWI cabins. The bottom and top terminals are both sandwiched between buildings. The return is at the bottom, the 1,200 horsepower drive is up top. Both are tensioned, as per usual. The lift has a design speed of 1,000 feet per minute, capacity of 2,800 PPH and 33 towers. The lift is 8,652 feet long and climbs 1,365 feet vertical. In this recording, the lift was going 854 fpm. I took out the midstation from the time. So this should be accurate.
