    First of all thank you for this video. We loved the new art, dividers, cards size and extra new stuff.

    The premium edition adds asymmetrical Pharoah powers and additional unique cards not in the previous version and expansions. They are some of the most fun aspects of this new edition. Agree about the box, but I love the new sized cards, dividers, and improved rules!

    • @TheBrokenMeeple

      The additional uniques are minor additions. The powers are fun though.

    Well this does look beautiful, and this new edition is far more cost effective than original buying original game plus expansions

    The Main reason to buy this version is that the original and expansions are hard to come by. Unless you want to buy used or pay $60-70$ for the base game ( amazon ). I have never played this but will buy this edition tomorrow ( released Oct 4th? ) It's also easier on the eyes. Space for new expansions????
    Thanks for the review.

      Alderac claimed they weren't doing more expansions. Didn't realise the old versions were so hard to get but if they turn up in Bring and Buy's then nab them!

    2'20" I like Great western trail! Everyone's welcome to their opinion, of course, but improving your herd, by deck improvement, in Great western Trail is a great way to implement progress in the game.

    Just curious. Most reviews I have seen state that the stand alone expansions were pretty much the same as the original game. Would you say purchasing the original or one of the other 2 expansions by itself would be a good way for portability? In other words, do you really need the expansions to have fun? Do they add any more to gameplay?

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  3 роки тому +2

      They simply add more variety but function the same. HOWEVER I advise getting last rites. The original set is the best if you want the easier abilities BUT Last Rites had a new set of starter cards in it which are much better than the other ones. I always use them in every game and ditched the old ones.

    Wait, you wanted the bigger cards, sleeves, and dividers, so the game provides that, which should boost your score to an 11, but then you're dropping it all the way to a 7 because of the box?? Insane! I sleeve games in boxes the exact size of the deck, carve the box up, then tape the front and side of the box to a bigger box. They're boxes. Who cares. If an insert doesn't fit sleeved cards, I recycle it. I'd never let packaging effect my rating of the game itself.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  5 років тому

      For the money and expectation however I wanted more than just bigger cards. And storage is a big thing as now I have to carry that to game nights and ensure it never goes vertical ever. The game is still amazing but more could have been done with this edition.

    Does the release of the Necropolis expansion last year raise your score from a 7 at all? If you raise it .5 points for every expansion you'll be back at 10 when the box is full!

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  2 роки тому

      Hard to say as I don't think it needs any bloat. The game itself is a 10, it's just that the premium set wasn't a mine blowing deal.

    Howdie, I really like your videos dude - consistent and along the lines of my taste more or less. (I will even torelate you badmouthing GWT) :) Anyway, why don't you like mixing DB with other things? E.g. area control? Dont you like games like Clank or Tyrants of the Underdark? Btw you said you did not know any other DB that was putting cards away for victory points - Tyrants do that - it calls it promotion..One of the most underrated DB's of all time IMHO. What are your thoughts?

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  4 роки тому

      I don't mind Tyrants but no theme at all and I prefer other deck builders. Clank just had an ineffectual dragon in it so lacked any tension.

    the special player powers are the only thing that's really something to consider here for the long time fans of the game, so I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't even mention them in this review.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  5 років тому

      Truthfully they slipped my mind but honestly I wouldn't buy this edition just for some player powers. They are nice but the cost is paying for more physical components.

    Sounds interesting! The mechanic where you have to entomb a card in order to score it reminds me a little bit of elysium, and that's one of my favourite games... Hmm, I'll keep my eyes open for this one. :)

    Six plus player games that are good are harder to come by. There’s 5 in my fam and we could have more kids so hitting that player count is something on my radar. But yeah understand it isn’t optimal for most gaming groups.

    Heart of crown has you score points only for certain cards you've set outside your deck in a manor similar to Valley's entombing.

      @@TheBrokenMeeple From the kickstarter comments, Alderac Entertainment Group posted the following comment in regards to the extra space:
      "We've left room for future expansions. We don't have any planned at this time but we future-proofed the box."
      Personally I love expansions ;)

    I like how the cards look much better. I assume the price is covering the better art, too. But, yeah, I rather wish the cards weren’t that big, too. Didn’t seem much of an improvement unless you wanted to play with an elderly member of the family.....
    Also, sorry to be an obnoxious history buff again, but I think it’s all so interesting! So, the head/bust is of Nefertiti, the wife of Akhenaten who is a pharaoh famous for being the first Egyptian to try to get everyone to worship only one god, the sun god-but most thought he was crazy and switched right back to polytheism after he died.

    I don't care for pure deckbuilders, I happen to want the other mechanics. This one doesn't look like it is for me. I do like Star Realms though it is not near the top of my list. Now mix a deckbuilder in with maybe a rondel, some engineers... and now we have a game :)

  • @salmanqaisar7377

    Great video, but how interactive is this? I'm really fed up with deckbuilders that are multiplayer solitaire. I don't mean poorly designed take-that, there are other ways to make competitive games interactive (eg 1) good auctions, 2) parasitic interactions, and 3) Hansa Teutonica (whatever mech u wanna call it).
    Cheers, Salman

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  3 роки тому +1

      There's a lot of powers that affect other players both good and bad. You both buy cards from a central pyramid. I'd say there is some decent interaction within.
