  • Departing from my regular uploads of outstanding solo female vocal recordings is this exquisite video of Connie Francis and Perry Como singing "Anniversary Song" in both Yiddish and English.
"The Perry Como Show" was one of America's most popular television programs of the Fifties and Sixties, and on which Connie guested on four occasions. This particular show was aired on December 28, 1960 - the year she entered the record books as the first female singer to have back to back #1 hits in the Billboard Hot 100 charts with "Everybody's Somebody"s Fool" and "My Heart has A Mind Of Its Own".

If only Connie had found a man like Como, a devoted family man with both feet on the ground. She might have had an easier life.

*Are you the REAL Connie Francis??* There's a lot of phonies who use other famous people's names on the internet just to fool people, you know? But just in case, I'm going to save this post for the rest of my life.
I'm 74-years old now and grew up with you, first listening to your songs over my $10. transistor radio, and now listening to it on iTunes and the internet, things that we didn't have in "The Good Old Days," when I first saw you on American Band Stand. I even mourned when I learned that you and Bobby Darin broke up, taken from us far too soon.
My favorite song of all time would have to be "Where the Boys Are," and I actually love it so much that even though I'm a man, I actually recorded it myself, changing the lyrics to "Where the GIRLS Are," even happily discovering that we sing it in the same key, just one octave lower. Whenever I sing it, I dedicate it to you, "The greatest female singer who ever lived." So many young people have never even heard of our rock pioneers, so I try to correct that problem the best I can.
If this is actually you, Connie, I truly believe that your voice was God given, a gift to all who enjoy good music, from "Stupid Cupid" to "Mama." With all the junk kids listen to today (things like "rap" music, which isn't really music at all), it makes me long for the kind of music that made all our lives so wonderful and magical. It seemed like such an innocent time, you know? Please know that there are still millions just like me who both love and support you and your music, and appreciate your major contribution to American music. Long after all of us are gone, your golden voice will echo through the ages.
God Bless, and Happy New Year!!!
      -Tiffsaver.

Beautiful sentiment. This song was composed in 1880 in Romania by Iosif Ivanovici and made its way to becoming an American classic when Al Jolson and Saul Chaplin gave this classical waltz English lyrics and it was heard in the 1947 movie The Jolson Story.
