It was a phenomenon that neither his voice nor his appearance aged! He was 59 years old when this tv show was aired on. And let's face it, he was also handsome!

We have never known a person that smiled as much as Perry did, he was in a good mood on stage as much as he was off stage, he was a great treasure and we are still sad that he is no longer with us, Perry, Roselle and Nick Perito were the three greatest and kindest people we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Perry was a great personal friend of ours for many years, he will always be missed for all the good things he had done, even outside of his music. He truly was an exceptional person, what you saw was what you got a humble, friendly, loving person for which we will never see the likes of again, we miss you Perry, more everyday. Jeff and Linda
I will never forget. For me growing up in the Fifties, Perry Como was one of the classiest performers on TV. I remember asking my father who his favorite singer was. He thought for a moment, then said "Perry Como". My father, a surgeon, had grown up in a poor family working from a young age and a child prodigy on the violin who worked in his father's barbershop. Perry remains an idol for me and reminds me of my father's kindness and character.

I’m an eighty two year old lady, and I remember hearing Perry singing in our house way back about 1951, Don’t Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes, and I’ve been hooked ever since, what a singer and what a man handsome and a he was a great living person,I saw him live in Glasgow in 1974 I think it was , and I went to see both his performances in the same evening, he was magnificent.

Gabriele Bendel, yes Gabrielle I realise how lucky I was, especially as he didn’t tour,but came to Britain in appreciation for his fans , I was living in Scotland then and lived nine miles from Glasgow, that is where I went to see him.he was magnificent.
I was in love with him and still am; my ideal guy. Smooth voice, classy, true gentleman.

A fantastic document of one of the most noble performers the world has known. In Perry Como you will find just love and humanity. His singing is absolutely outstanding in popular music.

Tony your correct in what you say, he's my favourite singer and he was a magnificent person.
Eventhough, Perry Como wasn't from my generation, but as a young fan of his, to me he was the best top single selling record male singer, according to the American Billboard Chart, between, 1940 and 1970, despite Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, or even Dean Martin, for that matter.
In other words, Perry Como outsold more records than anybody else in the world, even before Michael Jackson, as well.

Why did Perry Como have such eccentric backing singers on his records.
The thumbs down people have been used to rubbish , they wouldn’t know a great singer and a decent song if they heard one, I feel sorry for them .as when they g3t old they certainly will not like what they where used to listening to.

3:20 - BBC's Ronnie Hazlehurst is all over this production (close ears hear "Two Ronnies" arrangements here). Tight orchestra with the intricate arrangements - and 'ol Perry can barely get air out of his lungs or figure out where the end of the recorded overly-arranged music is...

Did the Americans of the time percive Perry Como as Italian, or American?
Sergio Dario , Italian, even though he was born in the U.S. and he was an Italian/American. But here any entertainer who has Italian blood in him is always regarded as an Italian. Plus, unlike Sinatra, Perry could understand and speak Italian.

Thanks for your explaination, i had no idea..yeas he spoke a decent Italian, i know because there's a video of him appearing on an Italian music show of the 60s where he conversed with the presenter with ease..A lovely man with a cracking personality and on top of that a great singer and entertrainer..
