I'm a light skin black woman and let me tell you living in a family of all black and brown skin family members I was the black sheep of the family and tossed away literally. And some not all black and brown skin folks look at me like I don't belong. Trust me racism is in the black culture as well. Erica tried to reassure her that “her black is beautiful” but Krista was like but that’s NOT what I see. When I was a child, my dad would call me his Black gal. My Mom was light skinned, my dad's skin was darker. But he was a shade darker than Nick. Once Mom was in the hospital ⁉️ I was maybe 7-8 years old. We went to visit her and one of the nurses attempted to stop us, questioning who were we visiting. We didn't know who she was but we stopped walking and just stared at her. All of a sudden my Mom, had gotten out of her bed and stood in the doorway of her room. We didn't see her but everyone on that wing heard her when she said 'They're mine and I know good damn well you're not trying to keep my kids from me. Get away from my children before I call your supervisor and tell her you're trying to keep my kids from seeing me. As a dark-skinned girl that grew up with light parents it is so important for Nick as a father to make Onyx feel beautiful and worthy. My mom was the one that has the colorism conversation with me and always let me know that I was beautiful and never to hate my cocoa skin. My dad grew up in a colorist household. His mother questioned whether I was his even though i look just like him. And in 38yrs he has never once told me I was beautiful or made me feel beautiful. But he's always given compliments to my light family members, light friends etc.

I remember growing up and my cousin called me blacky because everyone else is light skinned. I didn't care because I loved my skin color and beauty. I was the favored grandchild of both of my grandparents. My mother parents were high yellow, and my grandmother told me not to have children with a dark skin man because you have to think about your children. When I was a child, my dad would call me his Black gal. My Mom was light skinned, my dad's skin was darker. But he was a shade darker than Nick. Once Mom was in the hospital ⁉️ I was maybe 7-8 years old. We went to visit her and one of the nurses attempted to stop us, questioning who were we visiting. We didn't know who she was but we stopped walking and just stared at her. All of a sudden my Mom, had gotten out of her bed and stood in the doorway of her room. We didn't see her but everyone on that wing heard her when she said 'They're mine and I know good damn well you're not trying to keep my kids from me. Get away from my children before I call your supervisor and tell her you're trying to keep my kids from seeing me. You done lost your mind. 🤷🏾♀️ When my Dad would call me, no matter where we were or who was around, when I came to him, he would say 'There's my Blackgal, that's my baby❣️ I've never had issues about the color of my skin. I was well loved by my parents...well puberty, was different. Not that because they changed, but because I did. Hormones, moody, stubborn, challenging without saying a word. But I felt safe to be myself and everyone from extended family, the neighborhood, teachers they had to be told once. Don't mess with those kids. You're gonna have their parents coming up here. As a dark-skinned girl that grew up with light parents it is so important for Nick as a father to make Onyx feel beautiful and worthy. My mom was the one that has the colorism conversation with me and always let me know that I was beautiful and never to hate my cocoa skin. My dad grew up in a colorist household. His mother questioned whether I was his even though i look just like him. And in 38yrs he has never once told me I was beautiful or made me feel beautiful. But he's always given compliments to my light family members, light friends etc.
