Thanks for the video 👏 it’s only hubby and I so the xl is enough for us. We try to keep our gear to the minimum without compromising quality and experience.
We have the RidgeMonkey Connect Combi and Steamer Set which is slightly smaller. We find it very useful as we can cook several items at the same time in one pan. Only thing I wish they would change, are the pins on the hinge. When putting the two halves together you have to engage both at the same time. If one was longer you could engage one and then the other which would be much easier.
Fantastic review as always, thank you. Just come back from our 1st trip in the (finally) finished van last week ( Anglesey for 2 nights ). Got one of these on a discount code off eBay just before Easter and its great! Cooked the obligatory bacon buttes in the awning on a Campingaz 300 stove, perfect fit, bacon cooked perfectly and the burnt on bits washed off without a mark. Amazing non stick coatings on these pans. Can't wait to be a bit more adventurous (your homemade pizza...love it) . Watch out Ramsey, with this and my Omnia I'm unstoppable now...
Looks fabulous, might just treat ourselves to the XL to start with, then maybe get the XXL too. Another great video, thank you, Sarah, Will and Lucy. Xxx
i have a XL and i have cooked steak pies in it, took about 20 mins to cook. Suet with steak or golden syrup cooks great too. Also I was cooking on a Jetboil outside in Cornwall
I just bought 2 ridgemonkeys, I got the standard sandwich toaster and the xl. I had not actually seen one before I purchased and the standard one is very small the xl being more versatile. But as I bought them for motorcycle camping the size and light weight and shape are ideal. Ps great review on the XXL.
Great review guys.minds made up I’m getting the xxl. As a carp angler it’s nice to see these products being used outside the box.ridge monkey is a absolutely fantastic company with never ending ideas.great review thoroughly enjoyed it 😃
We prefer the RidgeMonkey 'Multipurpose mini pan and griddle set' because the foot print is not any larger than the traditional RidgeMonkey pans and the pots holds a lot more and the versatility is great, with one shallow and one deep pan together, so its capable for making porridge, using the grill or if you want a casserole in the evening. A super pot.
We love our XL but I must say I’m tempted by this XXL primarily for home use and then maybe take it away for a holiday with us! Thanks for a great review😊
We have the Connect XL toaster, and the Connect Pan and Griddle, tending to use the toaster for breakfast ‘omelette sandwiches’ which are really easy, and the pan and griddle for larger meals - including steak and sautéed potatoes, and anything you’d need an oven for. The Ridgemonkey deep pan is the best thing we’ve purchased. I can see that the XXL will be good for more meatier meals, and I love the idea of home cooked pizza, but I’d tend to use the Camping Gaz version of a Cadac for grilling etc. if we hadn’t already invested in what we have, I’d be tempted - but fitting it in might now be a bridge too far! Great review though.
We’ve got the Campinggaz Party Grill 400 - not sure if the Cadac pizza stone will fit, but worth checking. We like the stove we’ve got as it’s so compact and very versatile- even using as a wok if you’d like.
You’d be much better using the smaller pan for Rosti or two packets for the big XXL as the double style pan is perfect for Rosti. Rosti isn’t meant to be moved around to cook it, as you were doing. Once you’ve broken it up into the pan (when first taking it out of the packet) you should press it down and shape to form a cake so it’s best if it fills the pan completely. Then after it’s brown on one side you flip it to brown on the other side, to crispy perfection! Usually you have to use a plate to tip it out of the pan, then another plate to turn it over before placing the pan on top of it to turn it a final time and returning it to the heat.. all so that you can keep it in one piece and brown the other side. It’s the same technique with a Spanish potato tortilla. Both Rosti and Tortilla should be cooked as a cake and then sliced into portions if served as an accompaniment. The Ridgemonkey is the perfect pan to cook both those dishes easily without the faffing around with plates in order to turn it. For a “campers” Spanish Tortilla sauté some chopped onion until translucent, then add diced tinned potatoes (cut into quite small cubes), the potatoes should completely fill the pan with no room to move. Then add enough beaten eggs to fill the Ridgemonkey to the top, you might need as many as 6 eggs, or more, depending on the size of the pan. Cook on a low heat with the Ridgemonkey closed until the underneath is golden brown and the egg has started to solidify on top. Then flip the Ridgemonkey over to brown the other side. Serve hot or at room temperature with salad. I like it hot with baked beans or as part of a fry up. Then use up the remainder at room temperature with salad. Obviously it’s better with fresh potatoes but tinned potatoes are a good substitute when camping. For a traditional Swiss Rosti dish, when it’s browned on both sides add a few slices of ham on top, top with grated cheese, make a well and crack an egg on top. Close the Ridgemonkey to cook the egg and melt the cheese. Normally you have one Rosti cake per person and it’s finished in the oven so you’d be better using the XXL pan so you can do 2 portions at once, you’ll definitely need two packets of Rosti, maybe three, it needs to fill the pan and it’s the main part of the dish, not an accompaniment. That dish is just scrumptious! In Switzerland it’s also traditionally served with a Bratwurst sausage and rich onion gravy.. that’s delicious too!
Looks the business Will, but I would be a little concerned that it might exceed the maximum pan sizes that VW recommend in the owners manual. Might be worth a check. We always remove the washing up bowl when using the right burner. I'd hate for you to do damage with flames licking up the pan, either to the fridge glass or even the rear, which might go unnoticed.
Good point, will check. We are very careful with the bowl and fridge and we were using these pans on the lowest burner heat settings as we find they’re just too ferocious otherwise!
They are brilliant aren’t they, only negative I would say is you’ve got me to buy the bigger one as will give us more flexibility than the one we have 😀 thank you - all the best, David & Rachel 👍
Save yourself £12.00 and buy a Berlinger haus granite diamond none stick speciaity pan from Wayfair, more or less the same but seals around the edges to stop drips when you turn it over. Used mine for a year now, none stick surface is as good as new still, wouldn't be without it in my camper van - brilliant ! Fits perfectly in the box it came in, between the driver's seat and the fridge cupboard.
@@CampervanTime interesting. I love my Ingenio Pans and my XL but my favourite is a pan called a boaties covered fry pan so useful and specifically designed for these small hobs. Got it years ago when I had a Bongo. Still use it regularly now.
Looks great. I love my XL but there are four of us so getting a bit small. Have you ever tried making calzone in it? We make those instead of pizza. They are more filling and you can flip the pan so easier to cook, you could use the whole roll of dough then too 😊
I bought the xxl recently. I already have the xl, which I use most everyday. I wanted the xxl to maybe do a small roast, cook a cake etc. My first attempt was some lamb shanks. Did it on really low for 3 hours. It fell off the bone. Can't wait to try a cake next.
We have a conversion T5 and bought the XlXL. The depth of the pan handles mean that it won’t sit on the ring. Also the one we received is faulty with the two handles having both positive magnets. Exchanged it and the second handle has a faulty clip. Such a shame as a great pan in theory.
I never dared to make bacon in the cali, to afraid to have the smell stay :). Personally I use mostly Tefal ingenio plate, quite pleased with them, I've 3D printed some support to keep them vertically in the cupboard.
Sounds good. Don’t be too afraid of smells lingering - they just don’t seem to. We’ve never had an issue yet and the pop top being open seems to really help air the van too.
We have managed to fit a full sized Aga in our Cali, unfortunately, as it’s on all the time, the gas bottles need changing daily. Makes very nice pizza!! One point to note, the vehicle handling/acceleration has taken a massive hit and we can only turn right.
Yes you can but you’d just need to cover the handle stubs on the XL one as they’d scratch the non-stick of the big one if not wrapped/covered in something (cloth, bubble wrap etc)
@@CampervanTime I was going to ask about the kettle too. I don’t think it was the one in the link, it was black, had a more conventional handle and looked like it was plugged in? Thanks
Very much so, it comes everywhere with us and is a helpful addition for when we have hookup. It’s 240v obviously and it is too powerful for the Cali inverter btw, so hookup only.

A really thorough review. I’ll definitely put that on my wish list. 😁

You should try the Ridgemonkey Connect Multi-Purpose Pan & Griddle Set. Love mine.
Thanks, will check it out
It's like the man pan, far too large when space is a premium in a camper. They should have spent the time to improve the XL.
Out of interest, what would you want to improve on the XL?
Agree, been waiting four months to get replacement handles due to the black pin breaking. Still waiting.
The handles and put a serrated surface to one inside area.
My thoughts are that it’s too big for inside the van, storage as well but would be good outside. I’ll stick my XL which is just perfect
We’re going to be ditching a load of the tefal pans we carry around with us in favour of this new XXL but yet, it is a big one!

My first attempt was some lamb shanks. Did it on really low for 3 hours. It fell off the bone. Can't wait to try a cake next.
Brilliant !! Wow, sounds v tasty !
Woah 3 hours! Did you have any gas left?!!
Does the XL fit in side the XXL for storage?
Yes it does but you’d need to be careful not to scratch the non-stick with the handle stubs of the XL

Oh no! That is a shame, sorry to hear that, hope they sort the handle out for you again.
The handles on my XXL keep falling off .... such a pain when trying to cook
Have your tired a remoska? Love mine!
Yes we have and we use ours a lot!

Xxl seems a good bet on the cadac. We have the hp version so always has gas in the van ! Nice to see Sarah
Yes I think we’ll mostly be using it outside too 👍
Update on S2S. Camper bed was in stock tonight so bought one for top bed ….
Great stuff. Glad they’re back on the market again !
Shame your dog missed out on that steak lol.xxx looked wonderful.xx
She gets plenty of treats!
had the same issue with the handles.. but I cant live with out this camping now, have to the two smaller sizes and they make clean up very easy
Great bit of kit, looks huge though. Have you put some chrome trim on the van Will? 🤔
Hello! No, no chrome added.. must be a reflection or something 🤷

Yes you can but you’d just need to cover the handle stubs on the XL one as they’d scratch the non-stick of the big one if not wrapped/covered in something (cloth, bubble wrap etc)
Great for family but I'll stick with XL
XL is far better for toasties for sure!
Keep up the good work love ridgemonkey but this new one is far to big for a California ?
Possibly - but will be great outside too though.
Good review . Try the ridge monkey pan as well. Is great.
Thanks, will take a look!
A lot of motorhomes are starting to use induction hobs it would be nice if they did one for induction .
Yes that's true
I have had a cover for the xxl made by a company that does fishing covers very good if you are interested
I'm interested please, could you post a link?
Looks great for home use, but can't help thinking a pair of regular XLs would be more flexible, and easier to pack
Some people do do that, yes.
Would never cook those dishes in the van. Looks good for outside. Thx
They are a bit big for the hob I think. Nice to use outside though.
Yes, like most, I'll stick with the XL, but great review Sarah. Can you tell us where you got your kettle please. Best wishes Gina
Hello! The kettle is this one: amzn.to/3LjI670 and it’s also a cook pot / saucepan too! Collapses down very small and we love it!

Too bad they didn't design the big XXL so that the XL fits inside 😔
But I did order the King Kong XXL and should be getting it soon 😔👍🤙
