    Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
    I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
    I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!

    Your white mold is due to your field being under water during the spring!!! Your yield map shows it!! Excess moisture + temps = mold. Add on heavy soils and there is your recipe! Awesome videos💪🏼

    That green growing in the soybean field is Mother Nature's free cover crop.

    Nothing gets rid of crop residue like the moldboard plow. But not very many crop farmers want to talk about using one...

    U should carry a socket set and 3/8 impact with u in combine. So helpful for sickles and other adjustments

      Why do you think I don't have any tools? Did you see that I fixed it in the field, twice yesterday?

      I saw a socket wrench but no impact.

    Great video. Love the content… has there been years where you had to keep switching from corn to beans back to corn so on and so fourth?

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  Рік тому +1

      There has been yes. It's rare to completely finish beans before doing any corn

    Hi Nathan. I'm no farmer but does the white mold problem have anything to do with the crop residue build up over a couple of years ?

    Do you guys do much fall tillage during harvest? Or wait until the crops are out and hit it hard?

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  Рік тому +2

      We do tillage during harvest. All the wheat stubble is done. We're aiming on fertilizer/ chicken litter to get spread to do more tillage

      @captian34 that's because I haven't done much. Dad does most of it.

    I'm sorry. I'm gonna stop talking white mold. You guys obviously do a good job. I'm going crazy about the white mold one-fix specialists in your comments. I was always taught the big three soybean problems are phytophthora, nematodes, and white mold. You have a long fight ahead controlling your white mold problems. It takes a multiple strategy approach over a number of seasons. Our seed companies and Extension explain the good ways to combat the problem. A quick fix is not a fix.
    I know you'll succeed, and your disease assay will be the test.
    Remember, Clean the combine out after white mold before clean fields. I have one field that I till and combine beans last. Knock on wood (my head), I haven't found white mold elsewhere.

    Why not fire up the top dry ???

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  Рік тому +2

      Why? To dry 3-4,000 bushels going to save less than $1,000 and have to buy lp plus clean a bin out for that. Not worth it.v
