- We take a video tour around our MSC Virtuosa balcony cabin then head out for some dinner and entertainment! We were so excited but our first meal and entertainment definitely didn't go as expected! This was our first big cruise since covid-19 hit! Obviously we sailed on SeaDream (a yacht earlier last year) but that was a yacht and very different to a cruise ship vacation.

As a veteran of over 25 cruises I don't think I've ever seen a meal that looked as bad as that risotto. Good on David for trying it. Love the video.
100% agree with you. Food presentation alone was bad. Especially being a new launch. With media and vloggers on board.

The portions on MSC are small but you can order as many dishes as you want, you don't have to stop at three courses nor do they mind if you ask for two deserts, extra seconds etc.
I’m so happy for the two of you. I’ve been dying for cruising to start already. We have one book for Sept 5th. It will be our 40th Annv.

@@espnluver7525 That mask is not that bad honestly. I will wear it only when i am walking.. And yes i am 100% anti mask person, its a bullshit thing. But you get used to it and the overal experience don't have much influence. The only thing i don't want to do is wear the mask at the theater

"Manually eating a pizza" I just love your phrasing, brilliant !! By the way an Italian would always eat pizza "manually" it's a very British thing using a knives and fork for pizza, but hey what ever suits is cool. That risotto looked awful and cheese with no crackers, again it's a British way of eating and I don't think they've thought it through for a British passenger based cruise. Having a comedian act again is a weird choice to entertain, music I would have thought to be a safer option. I think you were just unlucky in a few choices that evening, looking forward to the rest of your experience. Great video as always guys so thanks for taking time to create this for the community.

MSC is making an effort (successfully) to reduce food waste, that is why the portions are not huge (any more). But remember: You can order as many courses as you like. Want two main courses (as they have in the core markets Italy and Spain), go ahead!
The fact that MSC changed the sections in the menu from 6 to 3 is merely: Stupid people believed they had to order an item from each section and were not able to finish it all.
Bottom line: If you go hungry from the main dining room of an MSC ship, it is your own fault.
Another tipp: On the menu always go for the Italian specialties and fish. MSCs head chefs are brillant on that. "Meat with some sauce" - not so much.
I'm now motivated to increase my walking each day to get ready for a cruise. Loved the "45 minute" walk in the hallways to the cabin room😉🤣
Mini bars do exist that are electronic and they charge you as soon as you pick something up from the fridge. My room in Vegas had one last week. Basically, the "replacement" method of a different can may or may not work. It looked like that fridge wasn't one that would charge you automatically, however.
The reputation of the mediocre food is my only worry about sailing with MSC. I’m looking forward to your thoughts on the speciality restaurants.
On Seaside the main dining rooms were rather mediocre and the buffets were hit and miss, but I found the specialty restaurants to be actually terrific-Every single 1!
I'm sailing on MSC Seashore this coming February 2022 for the first time....you all have me really worried about this food on board...=/

I also hear often that the MDR food is pretty bland. That risotto did sort of look like pizza. Pavement pizza.
I’ve been on quite a few Princess cruises which we like. Celebrity food is better than Princess but Princess is still quite good. We have now got a couple of Viking bookings, but whether we get to go is another thing. I have heard that MSC is not very good from so many fellow cruisers, but each to their own. 😃🇦🇺

I always ask the steward to remove everything from the mini fridge. This allows room and I am then able with a little effort, fill the mini fridge with items from my drink package.

Can’t wait for our 1st one back in November to Bermuda for 8 days aboard the Carnival Legend, after Cancelling 5 cruises last year even our much awaited Rome/Greek Islands for 2 weeks aboard the brand new Odyssey of the Seas GONE😟 but we found the same exact cruise for 2022 on Carnival for 1/2 the price. 5 cruises scheduled until that one. So excited... I just can’t hide it. Lol Ben! Love you guys. Honestly, we did MSC once. The ship was beautiful, the food was not up to our standards. We are picky about cruise food. Hope we meet y’all one day.
Just a comment. I am Italian and live in Canada and recognised the Risotto immediately. The Risotto with the tomato sauce is a very traditional way of serving the dish in the county side. Some call it "peasant food", but I love it. I know the look of it likely soiled your opinion, but it really is a lovely dish. It was our Sunday special dish growing up. My partner and I last sailed on MSC and he is Welsh/English and though he agreed he liked it, it certainly wasn't his favourite.
It had no tomato in it - it was actually beetroot! It tasted like salted rice - nothing else. We certainly don’t view it as peasant food! We love risotto and tomato!

Great video! I chose the fish dish in Minuetto on the first night and it too was tasteless and bland - described as coated in cornflakes and it literally was covered in regular soggy cornflakes! YUCK! Tiny portion and I was really hungry as we didn't make it onboard for lunch but I still left half of it as it was so gross! Thankfully the food and service did improve after the first night as we heard lots of complaints and agree that the comedian was awful. Our closet door jammed and we couldn't get our belongings out all day even after calling guest services in the morning, afternoon and evening and having the room stewards investigate twice; they finally fixed it after my husband said he would force it open if they didn't bother to sort it out by dinner time so we could get changed! First impressions were dreadful. Glad to be on a nice new ship though after so long on land!
I had the cornflakes fish too. Thought I’d try it just for the novelty 😂. Luckily mine still seemed on the crunchy side.
How was the comedian awful? Like, just not funny or was offensive or what?

As usual an excellent review guys.
Unfortunately not my type of ship. I've been spoilt having crewed the ships in the early 70's and have experienced real ships with style.
Frequently I've walked into a bar and the Steward would already be pouring my favourite drink.
We love all ships but the modern "Pack em and Stack em" style are slowly becoming not our scene.
We're only in our 50's and 60's but have been fortunate to have experienced the older style ships which in our personal view represent real cruising.
Our next cruises are 2022 aboard Iona. Hopefully no robots serving drinks.
You guys are so entertaining and really value your reviews.
Our last cruise was on MSC Meraviglia January 2020 right before everything came crashing down and we miss it SO MUCH. Wonderful seeing you 2 enjoying yourselves. Our next is October on Allure of the Seas and we can't wait!

Thank you so much for this! It definitely gives some good insight into sailing for the first time in WELL over a year. When I board the Mardi Gras Sept 4, it will have been 20 months since I've cruised!! So even though there in the UK you've been locked down quite a bit longer, you have been able to cruise so much sooner!. I've been deprived of my ultimate vacation way too long. On the upside I will have at least been on a beach holiday twice before September! Good thing or I'd be insane lol. So sorry that meal was bad.. hate it when a meal on a ship isn't great, doesn't happen often but it does happen! hugs guys.. really enjoy your vlogs! hope to see you sailing out of the US next year!

Thanks for your wonderful presentation on MCS you two are a breath of fresh air your enthusiasm is very infectious, and when you criticise something it’s always constructive, must admit I’m a little jealous because my wife and I go twice a year cruising with P&O not everybody’s cup of tea but we love it , we have one booked for October but the way things are going it will probably be cancelled again .well never mind we will keep trying thanks again for your wonderful shows long may it continue.
