Problem with that engine is the head is prone to cracking. Same engine was used in the 80's Mazda's. I knew a guy who had an '84 Mazda with the 4.135 and he had a stash of cylinder heads because he knew it would eventually crack. We had an '84 Ranger at the truck shop I used to work at. When the head went on that engine, we just replaced the engine. We had a contract with several engine makers, including Isuzu. We ended up putting an Isuzu C223 in it (same engine that was used in the Isuzu P'up pickups). Not sure how "straight" of a swap over it is, but it can be done.
I had a 83 ranger that was a diesel but someone along the line swapped in a v6 carbed engine. It was all dark brown and my friends called it the "brown bomber" 😅 that long bed was awesome though! And i got it from my older brother for $100 and thats what he paid for it at a police repo auction
Well color me jealous, random YT algorithm guy. That is a very nice classic truck for an even nicer price! Just needs a little bit of rust repair. I hope it treats you well.
The torque probably was about the same as the gassers, I think. Only 59 hp, though. I’d like one that’s only a base model and short bed, 2x4. Less weight and less strain on the engine. Simpler, too.
It is also in Wisconsin that's amazing it's hard to find classic rangers in good shape here in this state. It took me 5 years before I found the perfect 2002 ranger!
That looks just like mine I have the exact same truck paint color interior color all way down to same engine lol
@@chancemurphy1840 it’s probably the same one
$1,600?......I don’t think I could get my wallet out fast enough for that price. Till I got it out I’d hope he wouldn’t change his mind.
how fast can you go on the highway comfortably? without revving too high. Thanks.
I had a long bed one for a few years, A/C and all power, My Perkins ran GREAT ;-)
I’d like to find a Perkins with a short bed, no A/C and base model and short bed. The less weight the better! 😆
well, i learned two things today, that this exists and i want one
Kinda want to hunt down a bravo or courier with the same engine now.
needs a turbo and intercooler

Is a compatible and better quality head available? Possibly from Perkins?

You are a very lucky man I really wish I could own a truck like this
Nice truck, we have a motor out of one of those swapped into a skid steer
I would pay double in my country with a third world salary for a Ranger in this condition hahaha
Seen this is for sale now.
These are rare and unique but they were gutless
I’ve got a Mazda version. And it’s actually not that bad. Not a powerhouse but way more torque than the gasoline versions.
