Nice work! Although I would bore a hole in that ferrule to remove end mass. Otherwise it might creat some deflection and defeat the purpose of the light weight cf shaft
Nice work, recently I did two 314- shafts, very similar. Both had cracked all the way through the original ferrule/tenons. I did drill out a little center weight from the new ferrule/tenon piece, so far customers happy. I've wondered about the sanding on carbon fiber, read your comment below. I've lightly sanded on one to polish back out and all came out nice. Keep up the good work.
Hi! I always watch your videos. I need some advice regarding my ferrule not totally leveled on tip part. Should i change the whole ferrule or just cut out the un even part? Thank you!
Depends how much you have to cut off and if you are ok with having a slightly shorter cue. Changing the ferrule is a lot more work than just cutting it shorter.
have you ever tried using leftover 314 wood has a pin for the g10 and then the tip? im wondering if it would sound more like the 314 and retain performance?
Your machine is shaking and vibrating all the time. How precise should that be? The drill was off center when the remains were drilled out. Was it the drill itself or the tailstock of the lathe? Otherwise the video was very good. Keep the Work going.
sorry about the shaking I still haven't gotten around to mounting the lathe to my workbench 😅Also I got a new set of drill bits. The ones I used in the video were not the most precise. I try to be as precise as I can by using a 4 jaw independent chuck and I get the runout to less than 2 thousands. Thanks for the comment 😁
Hi, great vid,. I'm going to ask what might be a stupid question, but I'm trying to learn :) Why has this been done? Was there something wrong with the original ferrule? Is the replacement better in some way? What is the customer and/or you hoping to achieve? Thanks
Hi, I have one question: Why the cue tip on carbon cues are usually with less carve on the top of cue? I mean its like more flatter. Is this something that have sense to be like this, or is just preference?
Most players still shape their tip to a dime radius. Also diameter of the tip plays a factor in the apperance. I have a 13mm that looks almost flat, a 12.2mm that is slightky rounded, and a 10.5mm that looks like a cone. All shaped to a dime. It's kinda funny.
How come you use a metal lathe to do most of the work then swap over to the cue lathe to finish? Is there a reason or can you not be bothered swapping the tooling? Cheers.
I don't have a tip shaping tool for my metal lathe yet and I can also fit the whole shaft on the cue lathe. That makes it easier to clean and polish it up. 😁
Cheers for messaging back. I’m after some knowledge, I’m wanting to buy a lathe to start replacing tips, ferrules and maybe joints. My problem is I’m in New Zealand and there’s no cue smith’s to ask advice. Can I get away with just buying a metal lathe with a 38mm spindle bore? What bed length is yours? If I buy a proper pool cue lathe from the states and get it sent over it’s close to the price of buying a metal lathe and I still don’t know if it will work as we are 240 volt and 50 Hz. Any advice is very appreciated
@@bengrimmond6729 If your going to use a metal lathe I suggest you get one with a chuck on the back. Check with cue smith for a simpler cue lathe. He might ship to you. Good luck 😁
Carbon shafts are usually around 1mm in thickness. I only removed the old ferrule. If you felt the before and after you would start putting conditioners on your carbon shaft too. 😁
*WHY DRILL SUCH A HUGE HOLE IN THE SHAFT? MAKING SHAFT WALL VERY THIN AND ADDING BIG CHUNK PLASTIC FOR A FERRULE. FLOWERS ORIGINAL DESIGN LEFT MORE SHAFT STRUCTURE WITH A SMALL HOLE. SEEMS FLOWERS HAD BETTER DESIGN TIL YOU RUINED IT. OK NEW FERRULE BUT NOT BETTER BY NO MEANS*
Nah you took too much foam from the inside when drilling. ALSO, you sanded the cf shaft when sanding the ferrule!! Carbon should not be sanded at all costs Please understand that cf is not as wood and it can not be sanded nor be treated with chemical solutions except for alcohol.
@@noxdomeisi529 I deal with carbon fiber shafts every day. They can be sanded and polished back to normal. The only reason people think otherwise is because of the warnings that cue company's have put out there. So people don't hand sand to make the shaft smooth again like you can with maple.
@@noxdomeisi529 The material I removed was phenolic it was black. Expanding foam for the most part is always yellow or white. I removed very little if any.
@@arsbilliards thanks for the elaboration, now I think you should post more videos of cf shaft treatments that you do daily for us to have a clearer picture.

What material is the ferrule.
Hi, just a question.... So the original black ferrule of jflowers is neither a male nor female? So there's no hole at all?
Look for some Pictures of the shaft. There are sectional view of the shaft. Then u find answer.
What did you used on min 18:37 that brings back the carbonfiber shine and burnish the tip. Thanks
Great work and videos. Keep it up 👍

wonderful work, why do you change lathes at a certain point?
Is easier to work on the smaller lathes
thanks for the reply, I'm writing to you from Italy, I might know the name of the lathe you use, thank you very much
is abs ferrule a good low def ferrule?
The result is 🤩
Nice work! What kind of glue you using for the ferrule?
Gluing ferrules into carbon shafts I use total boat flex epoxy
Quick question.. can you add a white ferrule like this a bit thicker for my 12.9 mm revo?
Sure, I've done it before
Hindi ba mag babago performance?
which ferrule material you think is most durable and lightweight that you worked with? juma, abs, etc ?
Juma is my favorite material to work with. If you want light weight and hard G10 is a good option.

nope, but I've seen maple used as a plug in carbon fiber shafts

where do you get the ferrule sir

The customer wanted a white ferrule. I could have just put a white ring but I feel like the full plug will last longer and hit better.

can u use nylon pe rod as ferrule on carbon shaft?
I don't think epoxy would stick too well to nylon
is that phenolic ferrule sir?
I'm not sure. It's hard like phanolic. It's called Atlas Aegis 2 Ferrule Rod

That was not an old ferrule you drilled, that was the foam filling.
I'm trying the same thing. In the process. Why didn't you machine the Farrel before putting the tip on ?
The tip has to be cut down to size. Might as well leave the ferrule oversized and cut them down at the same time.
