There needs to be a viable destination womans racing series. The W series and Academy kinda fit the bill but they just seem like they're just there to check a diversity box and fill a marketing need and not are taken seriously by the FIA or racing community. Another problem is woman racers seem to get started much older than the best of the best men. So probably more needs to be done at the grassroots carting level. I'd even say Ircaing should create a virtual series for girls under the age of 16 or something so they can race/develop with their peers and the fastest online girls could be identified and given junior opportunities in carting & Formula 4 and whatnot. Also, men have a decided strength advantage and a slight reaction time advantage. I propose to even this field by not handicapping women's main advantage (size/weight) and give women a 20lb min seat/driver advantage in the lower series. If that advantage is too strong/not strong enough adjust according. There is no reason women can't be competitive racing car drivers. It's the one sport that could be co-ed if a few steps are taken!
@@bsrbck I agree totally if you're a super talented woman racer who wants to be in F1 you'll have to prove it in the F1 feeder series. I'm lobbying for a real Woman's series that's not a marketing gimmick run by Toto Wolf's wife for political and diversity sakes. Let give the best woman drivers a series to continue racing professionally and inspire the next generation to start earlier, give them something to work towards.
You guys are all missing the point. W Series and F1 Academy may not be the way to F1, but it does increase visibility which may lead to more young girls wanting to go racing. From there it's a numbers game, just like Jessica explains brilliantly. We have to look at the big picture as well. For a girl to make it to F1, she would need to succeed in the feeder series against the guys, but in order to find that girl we need more girls racing. Simple as that.
I can't help but root for her. Must be frustrating thinking you can compete with the boys but aren't because of reasons. I don't know if she/ they can. There haven't been many examples of women successfully competing with men but like I said ... you can't help but root for her/ women. I hope that there are women that can and are put in the position to prove they deserve to compete.
She isn’t good enough. She hasn’t raced in F3 or F2 against the guys for a seat in F1…. So she CAN race against the boys but she’s not fast enough and now too old to get a seat in F3 orF2
The girls simply have to start karting at a young ages….and race their way up, just like the boys. The pond of young girls starting karting at 4 to 6 years young, is simply too small….
@@RedlingsteinI wonder why that is? They don't have the opportunity to get into karting the way the boys do, that's why people like Jess are so crucial
Would love to see her drive JIm Clark's Lotus 49, TRYING to heel and toe, heavy steering, proper clutch and stick shift and no driver aids. Proper race car.
It's really sad. Many people can't (or rather don't want to) see the bigger picture. Of course, it won't make it onto the F1 grid. For that, she would first need the necessary super licence points. But she knows that herself. It's much more about breaking down barriers.
@@benn87 She's forging a path for the next generation. 10 years is realistic for a female driver, but with people like Jess the opportunities are more than ever
If a woman is physically fit enough to handle a full race weekend, I see no reason they couldn’t be capable of being competitive in the sport. I would quite enjoy seeing her drive.
There’s 1 girl in F3 ….at the back. The girls need to start young and drive their way up to F3 andF2…. They need to earn their spot just like every boy…
My view may not be a popular one, but I don’t want a woman on the F1 grid as it currently stands. Similar to Tennis, Football and Boxing, I would love an entire Female led F1 Championship. I want the best women drivers in the world competing against each other. I think this was a great opportunity for Jessica, but I’d hate for her or any other women just to become a back marker in an already really difficult F1 driver market to enter. Again, just my opinion.
Hi @@thechamp8162, in my view it should be a more evolved Championship than W Series. The problem with the W series (in my opinion) is that it acted and felt lower than F2 or F3. W series (which I watched) was a spec series were all cars were operated by one manufacturer, drivers weren’t required to bring any sponsorships, cars were slow, and it only lasted for 6-10 races. In my view you get the top teams in F1 to participate in a F1 Women’s Championship. You have 99% of the same rules and aspects of F1 cost cap and all (with obvious slight guidance changes for the difference in driver weight etc..). Then similar to the F2 feature races that occur before the F1 race. You have the women’s Championship feature race occur after the F1 race. Having another hour of sport rather than more banter from Ted, Martin, Crofty. This in my view will be better for the fans (who get even more racing for the crazy prices of an F1 ticket) and helps pick up the casual fans and really grow the women’s aspect of the sport. But that’s just my view and what I’d do if I had the power to change/influence things. I’m keen to see where this goes.
Hi @@bsrbck , I disagree with you and that’s ok. I’m simply looking for the same model we use in all other sports. Athletics, Boxing, Cricket, Tennis, Rugby, Swimming etc… Fans watch women in these sports not because they go up against men, but because they’re competing against the best women in the world - at the pinnacle of their sport just like the men. And they’re INCREDIBLE. I do not agree that we need a female driver to beat a male driver to see the sport “light up”. There’s already interest, it simply needs F1’s proper backing and input. In a drivers market that is already oversaturated, giving one seat to a women (sadly) wouldn’t provide the much needed opportunity for others. It will certainly be historic and symbolic but I fear nothing more. A proper Championship would provide a true root for women to race at the pinnacle of motorsport. But again, just my opinion - I know not everyone is going to agree.
@@ACsPianoCorner Spec series are cheap compared to constructors championships. Why would manufacturer pay so much for sub-par racers who don't gather much publicity of sponsorship because they are so much slower? Peak Serena Williams would have destroyed me at Tennis, but she only ever ranked about 200th worldwide among men. Just saying...
@@bsrbck But they can't and won't beat the men. That's just genetics. The fact that people are even arguing this is amusing. The Aussie and US women's football teams have both been destroyed by 15 year old boys, and they are two of the best women's teams out there. Jamie Chadwick was destroyed by teenage boys in lower formulas. When will people see it like it is?
Simply cos those girls don’t need to be fast….but need to be focused and handle flying under stress. In F1 you need to be fast AND focused and race under stress. The girls that are in karting, junior series and girls like Jamie en Jessica, they can drive…but aren’t fast enough. They don’t win the championships, they aren’t in F3 or F2 winning races.
To think, Jamie Chadwick, who dominating in W Series, not even competitive in Formula Regional, and Jessica Hawkins' best finish in W Series is 9th... no thanks, "We" don't neet to have her on the grid.
@@bsrbck Love to know why you’re think that , I get the feeling you’re one of those guys why think F1 should only be for men. If that’s the case then I that’s a very poor attitude you have.

There are simply not enough girls starting in karting at 5. The pond is so small.
In my opinion the only reason women are not driving in F1 is sexism. In the last 20 years there has been women racing and winning in the WEC, Indycars, IMSA and in The Rolex Grand-Am series. Nobody can honestly tell me that the female drivers on the Iron-Danes WEC/IMSA team are not good enough to drive an F1 car or Danica Patrick wasn't good enough to drive In F1. It's totally Crazy when f1 has had a driver like Scott Speed who racing in F1 for 2 years when he didn't even have a Pole-Position a podium or a win in any top-tier motorsport prior to racing in F1. If it's all about having the budget ie money then surly Susie Wolff would have been on the F1 grid already. F1 is a joke now. Women can't get on the grid and new teams can't get on the grid. It's completely closed shop. Having a female driver doing a practice session is just tokenism. It's a PR stunt. Another team will do exactly the same thing in 5 years time. It's Embarrassing.
@@tempahb946 Come-On. I've watched male pay-drivers for decades in F1. Drivers like Pedro Dinz and Belmondo who have Rich fathers who were being lapped 5-7 times every race. Nobody complained, but now if it's a woman it's dangerous??? Really???
do you see a driver getting lapped 5 - 7 times per race nowadays?@@avflashback8913 and the pool of girls/women racing is incredibly small. how many racing drivers (all genders) are there in the whole world? and then 30 (incl. test/reserve) drivers make it into F1. what kind of percentage is it? crunch the numbers for yourself. NBA, football (at least in Europe), chess... all these 'male dominated' tournaments/ leagues are OPEN to any gender. some stereotypes are there bcs they are based on observed reality. girls/women (and vice versa) are simply more/less interested in some things than in others. compare how much money brings female audience to the Kardashians with how much money WNBA players make.
In my opinion if enough women watched F1 then the teams and sponsors would happily push for there to be more women drivers, as with all sport it's all about the advertising revenue. Unfortunately I believe it's very much a male dominated audience so it is always going to be extremely difficult for women to get into motorsports
There’s simply not many girls starting karting at a very young age. The amount of girls in karting is so small compared to boys. It starts there. And then the girls need to stay in racing and battle their way into the higher series, with the boys. Only a few girls keep racing
@@Redlingstein If the sponsorship money was there then more would continue. It's exactly as Jess said, no money = no racing. The money comes from advertising, so like I said if the audience was as much female as male then the sponsors would follow and the girls would get the sponsorship

What sort of nonsense interview is this??? Incredible incredible incredible incredible and do on…. With a little bit of imagination I could have done the interview myself.. and I am a 76 year old man.
Sorry but her record does not nearly match the hype. Three seasons in W Series - 11th, 11th, and 9th. Compare to Jamie Chadwick three seasons in W series - 1st, 1st and err...1st. If any woman belongs in F3/F2 as a precursor to joining F1 it's Jamie Chadwick.
Welcome to 2023 buddy - fun fact; her best finish in the Whatever series was 9th. The winner, Jamie Chadwick, after winning that series 3 times straight, went off to a nothing American series instead of giving F2 a go, after she was obliterated by teenagers in Asian F4 before the W series. Kind of getting a theme here?!
If F1 is serious about giving women a chance, why not give the best woman a test drive? Jamie Chadwick won every year of the W Series. Sophia Florsch is in F3. Not sure Jessica is on their level, although all three aforementioned drivers are better than Lance :D
I agree.. Jessica was midfield every season of W-series.. Jamie obviously proved herself much more, so why not give her a serious chance? With that I mean, drive in a current F1 car, not some "demo" from a couple of years ago.. In the end motorracing is simply about being the fastest, not about if you are a man or woman.. Finances are a big part of it though these days, unfortunately, so if women shows speed they should get the funding, just like men.. That's the thing that they try to change I think, next to create more interest in motorracing from women in general.. it's still very much a man's world..
Florsch bought her seat and driving at the back. Earned 1 point in a race full of DNF’s…. Jamie isn’t good enough for F1 and neither is Jessica. Winning W series says nothing. None of those ladies could ever race and win in F3 or F2…. Jamie is doing a good job in Indycar Light series now. The feeder series for Indycar. But even there the competition for her to ever get into Indycar is almost impossible. There are simply too many stronger racers.
@@inflatable2Jamie is not good enough for F1. And you are NOT ALLOWED to let a driver do a test in a current car….regulations remember! It needs to be a few seasons old car otherwise it would be deemed testing for the current cars…which would be illegal. Jamie is midfield at Indycar Light this season. The feeder series for Indycar. She simply isn’t good enough for F1. Not cos she isn’t a man. Btw, I’m a woman.
and @inflatable2 - how short some people's memories are. Chadwick was pushed to the final round in first 2 series, by different drivers. Whilst w series was a good idea, but badly executed, the results were seriously flawed by the way the cars were centrally run, and some ridiculous rules, eg restricting the set up of cars and the engine allocation rules which changed every season, which benefited some drivers and shafted others. Season 1 was the only reasonably fair result standings wise as all drivers changed cars/engines every race. (Fun fact -series 3, which Chadwick supposedly 'dominated', was the only season when every driver was allocated an engine at the start of the season and they kept it throughout - strangely it was also the only season she went on to 'dominate'. If you don't believe this, look at the standings in F1A, run by separate, top class teams who are all looking out for their own drivers without bias towards any given driver/s. Meaning no outside influences coming into play. The favorite (former w series driver) is 5th in the standings, the 2nd placed driver tested but didn't even qualify for w series, etc etc. Agree or disagree with female only series, but there is little doubt the F1A results / standings will be much more representative of the talent & true rankings because the teams (as well as the drivers) are pitted against each other
He will 5 seconds slower than the slowest current F1 driver. So, what is the point? Everything I. modern sport are made for money, for show, for cheap engagement of poor fans.
Not having done race distance. And say back to back weekends all sessions. Where unknown is with a female... having never been on the grid in modern times.. can the female body cope!. Not built like men for a reason. Terms of muscle stamina if nothing else..
There's probably some women that are stronger than you. They would probably have to work much harder than men to have a chance in F1 sure but I don't think it's impossible a woman could be in F1.
@@RJAthe word is improbable. There’s a huge pyramid of lower categories to climb before a driver can enter F1- this woman for example doesn’t have nearly enough super license points. And men have the biological advantage when it comes to Motorsport. If you look at women at any high level of Motorsport and they are always in the back. If you think Stroll doesn’t deserve his seat, Jamie Chadwick, who is considered the best female driver from this group, would get destroyed by Stroll.

They said she matched the reference times, though they didn’t say what those times were (which is normal for f1 testing)
Testing times are not normally communicated publicly. Except maybe for the pre-season tests.

She sounds like George Russell’s sister

It's really sad. Many people can't (or rather don't want to) see the bigger picture. Of course, it won't make it onto the F1 grid. For that, she would first need the necessary super licence points. But she knows that herself. It's much more about breaking down barriers.

If a woman is physically fit enough to handle a full race weekend, I see no reason they couldn’t be capable of being competitive in the sport. I would quite enjoy seeing her drive.

@@captainsunshine64 that the stopwatch never lies? .. Surely you can't be asking that question.
So W series?

@@bsrbck But they can't and won't beat the men. That's just genetics. The fact that people are even arguing this is amusing.

There are girls that are f35 fighter pilots and Apache helicopter pilots. Even girls go into space, so why not f1...
Because to date they're too slow - the stopwatch doesn't lie.

George Russell in drag (f1 pun intended)
But if she's slower by a huge margin it becomes dangerous... We would need live deltas to judge

and the pool of girls/women racing is incredibly small. how many racing drivers (all genders) are there in the whole world? and then 30 (incl. test/reserve) drivers make it into F1. what kind of percentage is it? crunch the numbers for yourself.
There are plenty of women in motorsports, they are just not drivers. There are female strategists, engineers, etc.

Right that was boring, wasn't it. Sounded like a footballer interview, turned off after a couple of minutes...
It’s amazing the amount of denying of facts that takes place today to suit a narrative.
Chadwick 12th in Indy Nxt this season, Flörsh 23rd in the F3 championship. Surprised you didn't suggest Tatiana Calderon or Katherine Legge.
Agree or disagree with female only series, but there is little doubt the F1A results / standings will be much more representative of the talent & true rankings because the teams (as well as the drivers) are pitted against each other
She would be more successful than Stroll in F1.

There's probably some women that are stronger than you. They would probably have to work much harder than men to have a chance in F1 sure but I don't think it's impossible a woman could be in F1.
Ask Michelle Mouton about stamina?
@@RJAthe word is improbable. There’s a huge pyramid of lower categories to climb before a driver can enter F1- this woman for example doesn’t have nearly enough super license points.
