      @@xneiil +1. As someone who’s incredibly busy with a Windows desktop PC due to work (Adobe…), I still have yet to update my MBP, iPhone, _and_ Apple Watch to each of their respective new OSs because I’d like to be absolutely certain that the current privacy settings I’ve manually and painstakingly set…actually retain themselves. Until I get a large chunk of free time, I’m refraining from adopting the new updates, except for maybe just moving forward with watchOS 11, as it seems fairly innocuous.
      A full guide to iOS 18’s extensive new features that may affect or touch on privacy would be fantastic and very much appreciated.

      @@OutplayedqtDon't update to iOS 18 unless you're okay with the Photos app getting a massive downgrade in usability!

      @Outplayedqt Місяць тому

      @@InventorZahran BRO…rough timing, lol. Updated yesterday and the new Photos app is single-handedly the worst update I’ve ever laid my eyes on in YEARS. Telling close friends and fam (who aren’t particularly privacy-conscious) not to update yet for this single reason alone.
      I’d pay a pretty penny to peer under the drapes to understand and comprehend the ongoing paradigm of Apple’s iOS UI/UX team.

    macOS was already always using unique ‘private’ MAC addresses for each network. All that this new feature adds is the ability to have that private MAC change automatically at a fixed interval for ‘enhanced privacy and security’ or just let that network keep the same private MAC address unless you forget and rejoin the network. Agree that it would be nice to choose which to be the default.

    Hiding apps is also for people who might be in an abusive relationship for instance, etc.
    I like to lock apps like reddit etc, because they can contain private messages, but often do not have that lock feature

    Ability to require apps for biometric authentication before access is a good idea. It's not the worst idea to protect your email client and text message client if you live in a city with a phone theft problem like London..

    MAC address randomization has already been a thing in IOS for a while now, I can only assume it will work similar on MacOS. Every time IOS connects to a WIFI network it randomizes it's broadcasted MAC address by default. There is no option to rotate MACs or designate a fixed one, the only option you have is to disable it (which Apple seems to think is a security risk even on WPA2/3 personal WIFI) . The process behind it is likely the same process at which hackers spoof their MAC addresses. The network card has a hardcoded vendor address sure, but the OS is responsible for including that address in ethernet frames when communicating with the router. The OS generates a randomized MAC address and then includes that as the source MAC address in it's ethernet frames when communicating with the router. The router then uses that randomized address when moving on to layer 3 TCP/IP

    • @y28w9D
      @y28w9D Місяць тому

      On iOS: "A rotating private address reduces tracking by periodically changing this device's Wi-Fi address on this network."

    • @kxvrol
      @kxvrol Місяць тому

      yeah and one can only assume that for macos off means the device real mac address is used, fixed means that this network will have constant mac address that is unique to this network but persists across reconnects and rotating means that every time this devices connects to that network it will generate new random mac address.

    I don’t use the passwords on Apple account. I want a separate password manager. But for people who don’t have a clue and use 1 password for everything, it at least makes them use it maybe and be more safe than today.

      The only thing that would have convinced me about the new Passwords app would have been KeePass XC integration, in other words, being able to save and sync passwords using the KeePass XC format.

When autosave is on, the is a constant spinning color wheel when trying to save a document and the constant permission nag for Word, Excel etc dave to Onedrive locations is a bit weird. From what I understand, it's a way for network admins to whitelist a mac address without knowing the real hardware address. Fixed = fake (but static). Off = hardware. Rotating = fake and random

    Face ID is invasive. I prefer fingerprints. Apple does not provide this. Surely you can just use passcode without faceID?

    • @firestormjupiter
      @firestormjupiter Місяць тому +1

      Touch ID had none of the problems face ID has...you pick up your phone to use face ID, why not just put a finger on the home button like in the old days? You don't even need to look at the phone for touch ID, AND it's also way faster (anecdotally). They could have just put the touch ID sensor on the back, or the power button, or under the screen like on most android phones and it probably wouldn't cost them much more.

  • @namelkcip

    Apple definitely isn't going to bring profiles or any type of technology improvements that go beyond the "one person/one phone" concept. They would never do anything to reduce the number of phones they can sell, ultimately impacting their astronomical profits. Apple: "Need two profiles? Need two phones (and double the revenue for us). Thanks!"

    • @Zenoff64
      @Zenoff64 Місяць тому

      This would have zero effect on phone sales and almost no one would use it. Now tablets on the other hand, absolutely. That could potentially tank tablet sales.

      You unlock your phone with your face, but then hand your phone for a moment to a friend to let them see something. This prevents them from getting into other things like photos or chats that you dont want them to see.

      @TomNook. Місяць тому

      If I'm handing my phone to a friend, I'm going to be right next to them watching their every move.
      It's a niche feature security wise. Proper security means different layers requiring different methods to get to your data.

    Well someone forgot to watch the number of CVE per OS, I don't know which one at the bottom of the worst CVE numbers... Linux at the top? For the worst CVE numbers? Kernel boggling!!!! 🗿

    Honestly. iPhones are filled with sensors working all the time to gather data to give to it's lords. I just shower my family yesterday how the iPhone 13 dot projector flashes when the phone is already unlocked and face recognize features are not asked for. (use a second mobile camera to see the IR emited from the notch). Why does it flash every now and then if its not required? What data did it just gather and what did it do with it that we were not notified about. The simple truth is that Security and privacy does not exist anymore. You cant even start usig you phones these days without linking it to your account. This is not only an iPhone problem. All modern devices uses there sensors to spy on us. iPhones, Android, TV, Playstations, All devices with google assistant and the list goes on and on. Not until EU and other big goverments set strict rules on how these tech companies are allowed to work behind the curtains can we be safe Apple Intelligence and Microsoft copilot are both banned in EU for the time beeing. Guess why. The best way to stay secure is to not outsource tasks to anyone or anything else. The devices cant read our minds, At least for now.
