So glad Jonathan has these conversations with curious people ❤
‘Addiction is a form of worship’. Jonathon never fails to deliver.
Do you agree?
As someone who is now Orthodox Christian and has done psychedelics in the past, I can say for sure that it is an exposure to unearned wisdom. It's much like being a radio that has its amperage jacked and exposed to all frequencies at once: you'll get it alright, but to what end? Blessedly I had a stronger constitution than many of my friends and I was able to carry on, but many of them burnt out. Lord have mercy, do hallucinogens at your own peril.
Couldn’t agree more.
Same experience here - joining the Orthodox church is helping heal from the exposure to psychedelics, but it takes time.
This is also the criticism I have of my protestant background/theology - that healing is a button on the God vending machine.
I pray people heed the warnings!
Precisely. "Unearned." Grabbing fruit for yourself. I've always called it cheating, but your term has more clarity and respect...Actually describes as it identifies.
I’m undecided on psychedelics. It brought me back from deep depression, from broken to on the mend. I also did psychedelics in a strong container. I only did it by myself a couple of times. My intention was always to heal. So I’m wonder if there is room for psychedelics within an Orthodox framework.
I wouldn't have considered the Orthodox Church if it wasn't for my experience with psychedelics; I was highly biased against The Bible and Christianity for much of my life but they definitely helped me to break free of the negative cultural associations with the faith that I had accumulated in my life. Now that I'm reading the Bible with an open mind I'm able to see a depth I never could have anticipated before.
Such a great podcast. The value of one man, woman and family. Giving to a higher good and the consequences of not abiding to those values so valuable, thank you for sharing.
Brilliant conversation, guys. JP has the right ideas!
This discussion is the most intelligence and the most common sense I have heard in a long time. We need more of this.
You need to find some smarter people to listen to, dude. Maybe pick up a book by Nietzsche
@@11kravitzn You are wrong. The problem today is what is called by philosophers ‘the hard problem of consciousness’ what is it? In Eastern religion and philosophy going back to the higher ages God and Consciousness were the same. God is Consciousness. Humans share in this consciousness.
@@ALavin-en1kr I don't think consciousness can get a virgin pregnant or raise the dead lol
@@11kravitzn If you are talking about your consciousness I would agree with you.
@@ALavin-en1kr You probably think humans are metaphysically special over and above all other life forms
It is going to be fascinating how many physical ailments will fade away as we learn more about consciousness and build a better fundamental framework for understanding reality.
Jonathan Pageau brings such an interesting perspective to a lot of the conversations we have throughout this episode 💭
I hope they bring clarity to your own thoughts, and also bring you new ideas that you hadn't previously considered.
Life's about building the best understanding and bringing graciousness to your experience. You can't do that without understanding a wide range of perspectives 🧠
Let me know below your thoughts, have a great day 😄
Going too deep into "multiple perspectives" delivers a dilettante at some point. Treating the spiritual life as a smorgasbord leads to a corresponding indigestion.

We should not mess with the wonderful faculties that God has given us. We are the microcosm of the macrocosm. Great Saints have always realized this. When consciousness (the hard problem for philosophy) is understood all will change. Consciousness is God, humans and all creation share in God’s consciousness which is all that is.
What do you mean by the consciousness is God? Is that like we are all " gods" or is there a distinction between the creature and the Creator?
@@jacobgingerhoffman7816 Jesus said to his followers ‘Ye Are gods” so based on that I believe it is the case that we are. We are sparks of the Divine consciousness, as souls or sparks of the divine. We share in consciousness or God. As we learned we are temples of the Holy Spirit. We being in God and God being is us.
So in reality we are in heaven and also hell.
As we’re are “made in God’s image” it implies we’re God- like a primordial spirit /aspect of God consciousness… we’re each , in my experience and research, are willing participants in gathering all our experiences over various “life times” contributing as part of the “one consciousness”
@@jacobgingerhoffman7816 Christ said to his followers: Ye are gods. That may mean we share in God’s consciousness.
Maybe, but it’ll alleviate a lot of human suffering in the meantime. So, why not give it a shot?

Imaginary Friend
I pray to him each day, hears my cries at night,
replies to me in my own voice, it’s gonna be alright,
communicates with me, through faith’s telepathy,
answers prayers because he cares, for all his thoughts are mine,
Chorus
here with me, ‘til the end, my own, imaginary friend,
can’t see him but he’s there, in my heart and mind,
silent to my earthly ears, blind before my eyes,
such a complicated thing, tries to ease our suffering,
helping us come up with ways we might, escape reality,
Chorus
by my side, I depend on my, imaginary friend,
likely that you have one too, somewhere there inside of you,
hallelujah, shout amen to our, imaginary friend,
delusional but beautiful, even though it’s all pretend,
still I need, my imaginary friend…

You come here do ye exist? Lord without thy shared "i" AM YOU!
Why do all these JP interviews attract a cheering section and not critical discourse?
Is like why there's something rather than nothing?
How can ye see higher without from WHO stood up from HIS SEAT and took the lowest seat LASTS among my shared "i" AM?;
Footstool will say, remember all thy shared clay FEET MIXED WITH IRON resting upon all dry grounds. "GROUNDED"!
The purpose of life is: To know, love, and serve God, who is both transcendent and immanent, all there is, and Who we can be One with. As Christ said: Ye are gods, and that is so. The idiocy of the biological perspective of mid-nineteenth century Darwinism has confused many.
There are cells, electricities, electromagnetism and magnetism, consciousness, mind, and individualized souls or sparks of Cosmic Consciousness. We are all of that, so enough of reductionism. At the cusp of a quantum age, it is time we realize we are the microcosm of the macrocosm.
Some will say what is Me?
Students will say unto Whom BELONGS?
Little new minds come here and seat with Me. Now....tell Me!
Nor Me can even exist in front of WHO? Without the shared "i" AM Me! Better yet, some will say, what is YOU? CREATION WILL SAY, WITHOUT HIS SHARED "i" Am . TIME GIVEN from.....unto all WHO am I?
Is not the unborn is the problem but the society! Many who am I?
The comment about the Eucharist, eating the literal body of Jesus is "Christian" - this is a catholic idea but is not shared by all Christians.
40:12 doesn’t this definition of a cult mean the section mean that Christianity is a cult if we look at where Jesus calls us to hate our parents and abandon everything to follow him? (Catholic, so I am not saying this is the case, but this definition doesn’t really seem to be ideal)
Christianity is a cult. Cult is an often incorrectly applied term that is used as a buzzword to imply a small group of contrarians with high in group preference, typically with elevated negative ethnocentrism who cut themselves off from the rest of the world with some sort of weird sexual spin involved. That' is simply not accurate though. Any system of belief that holds to beliefs and practices in someway would be considered cultic.
No, the meaning there is that God must be highest in our lives, if you put your wife above God then your wife is now your Idol. It fits his point of if you arrange your life in the proper arrangement the rest will actually become harmonious and improved.
Idolize anything but god and you will fall
Great question
Christianity indeed has all the building blocks of a cult there in the texts themselves. Thats why I’ve seen so many Christian Cults just in my lifetime. See: Concise Overview of the Critique of Jesus of Nazareth.

The word used is hate, miseo, not love less. It’s the same Greek word later in luke about following two masters. The word means hate.

The ego has no difficulty with _the idea_ of God. But the _experience_ of God is fiercely defended against.
That paraphrased statement comes from A Course in Miracles. This holy text, of our own era, has indeed a very famous Author.
Seek _and find,_ says the Holy Spirit.
Seek, but do not find, says the ego.
Firstly, it's not actually science. It is "science falsely so-called". The "science" is that Christ rose from the dead on the third day and is returning to judge the world. That's the science..
It does ... in science, we are meat popsicles - 5th Element.

Jonathan's idea that we are too rational these days is bizarre. The opposite is true, today we are incredibly religious and superstitious and driven by emotion.
Tell me exactly what about the modern left strikes you as rational?
Jonathan talks about all the good things that our society lacks as if only mystery and superstition can provide them.
Like "why should we love our own ethnic group?" It must be some unfathomable mysterious thing according to Jonathan.
I agree with a lot of the problems he points out. But his idea that it's caused by focusing on rationality is ridiculous to me.
He addresses this in this very conversation. He doesn't think the modern world is all rational it's furries and witches my friend and hyper rationality.
@@suppression2142 "Jonathan's idea that we are too rational these days is bizarre"
I think you may be misinterpreting him. An atheistic claim is that if we rid the West of spirituality (God) then that will usher in the modern day utopia.
The problem is, the reverse has occurred. (As predicted by Nietzsche.) As science has relegated God to the dumpster bin, the West has become incredibly nihilistic - no meaning to life. Suicide rates per capita are higher now than at any point in human history.
"I agree with a lot of the problems he points out. But his idea that it's caused by focusing on rationality is ridiculous to me."
He's not saying that the problems are caused by focusing on the enlightenment, he's saying that the problems are occurring because we've neglected the need for a higher purpose that science cannot provide. Science is a brilliant tool, but it needs to be wielded by faith. Science cannot wield itself.
32:54 he addresses this a little bit. The far left is absolutely an evolution of the "counterenlightenment"- Jonathan elsewhere has said he sees that movement as a component of the enlightenment itself. I think he might say that the elevation of reason above all else does not delete human irrationality, so it finds ways to manifest itself, or something like that.
@qwertyuiopqwerqwererty There is always a remainder that cannot be accounted for within a system. That must be acknowledged at the "edge".
@@suppression2142 Exactly. No one pattern can fit everything.
The word God means different things to different societies, different individuals, and it’s been that way since recorded history.

If you have 12 women and one man you will have a village in 3 years🙃
You are with the Darwinians perspective. The reality is that we are moving away from the last dark age when the masculine was up front and protective. Movement to a higher age always involves the feminine which has a different influence. Both are necessary and consciousness, mind, and nature use both when appropriate, necessary and timely. We humans adjust and play our roles.
