COD Modern Warfare II multiplayer w/ virtual surround sound (HeSuvi HRTF)

    This is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II with HeSuVi virtual surround [irc37.wav]. There was a free week going on, so I decided to get a free video out of it. Gee, that sure went well the last time with Overwatch 1, huh?
    MWII is SUPPOSED to support Dolby Atmos. It has an article on their official website and everything. Yet I cannot get it working for the life of me, and neither can other people with actual Atmos speaker setups. I decided to go with HeSuVi, since (shock) MW2019 sounds pretty much the same between Atmos and HeSuVi.
    Well, the audio definitely seems worse in this one. Rear cues are nearly non-existent, and that's pretty sad considering this was my closest HRIR match. In MW2019, you can at least get a decent sense of direction when another player is right near you, but not in MWII.

    For some reason on PCGamingWiki it says that the game only goes up to 7.1, no mention of Atmos (even though I thought it supported spatial audio as well). Btw, have you tried Immerse Hive? It's only up to 7.1 but it lets you "scan" the ear with the camera and it creates a personal HRTF for you to use, I'm using it right now and for games it works pretty well (I was excited to use it with movies as well, but it sounds a bit "dull", not as warm as Atmos, but more precise in a way). Love your videos btw, for virtual surround enthusiasts you're the only one doing things that are actually interesting and useful!

    Something interesting you accidentally showcased with this video is that surround sound setups have significantly quieter footsteps sounds in game. On console, the problem is absurdly common, especially on PS5. My theory is that the game has a problem mixing surround objects and it's especially prevalent on PS5 cuz it's constantly using surround for its 3D audio stuff. Basically, if the game's using any surround at all, the audio mix goes to complete shit. No one's really sure why and the bug is so seldom discussed that some folks don't believe it exists, but yeah. The audio in this game is *that broken.*
