I ended up ragequitting on MAP04 because I just couldn't get past the dozens of Sergeants with the d-pad controls and low framerate.

This is just a weird quirk of a somewhat obscure Street Fighter II clone that I was telling someone about on Discord. Annie Hamilton from Power Instinct 1 not only has an air fireball (predating Akuma by 1 year), but it doesn't even reset her double jump. I have never seen ANYONE online ever mention this tech, not even DragonCharlz/Team Best From Now with all the trash they used to review.

    Hi mate again! I have been doing tests on this game with ALchemy and the driver v2.17.0008С MOD (best drivers at the moment) on an X-Fi Titanium Fatality and as you say, I notice that there are certain volumes that are very high. This issue can be partly mitigated by setting the Windows control panel to Quadrafonic. Later I will record a video. Anyway it sounds terrible both in HW and in OpenAL Soft... saludos!

    How can i get the occlusion to work on the HL25 engine?? Sound directionality works great, but the sound itself isnt occluded, doesnt matter the range. I followed the instructions in that paste bin for metahooksv but its still not working

    O wow... I've also managed to run A3D Rooms on modern systems without Aureal Vortex soundcard but in a totally diferent way: - I've copied A3DAPI.dll from the official Aureal Vortex drivers to the path and registered required COM objects with "regsvr32 A3DAPI.dll" as this is used by the demo engine. A3DAPI fallbacks to a software emulator when it detects non-Aureal soundcard as described in "A3D 3.0 API Reference Guide" so original DLL works fine on any soundcard. - A3D.dll is only used and required at the startup of the demo to verify it is running on a legit Aureal Vortex soundcard. So instead, I've cracked the .exe to ignore this verification by replacing 32 bytes at 0xA9B (8B F0 85 F6 ...) with NOPs (90 90 90 90 ...) so it starts without need for A3D.dll, Aureal drivers, or soundcard.

      Yes, but only for the first 3 episodes. E4M2 has severe framerate drops similar to this.

    In your opinion its better to use hardware acceleration or DSOAL on modern systems? Is it software sounds better than hardware? Me and colleague testing in a lot of games. He is using dsoal and I have Audigy RX with EAX Advanced HD support. I think software more flexible but less friendly for beginners.

    What happens if you try to use this with surround sound? Can you leave the Hardware 3D sound toggle on and just set speakers to whatever surround setup you have, or will the HRTF functions mess with things regardless?

      It will default to whatever speaker setup you have in OpenAL Soft's config file. Generally, it autodetects based on what your Windows speaker setting is set to.

      It's also in its forks, Nugget Doom and Cherry Doom. I just assumed it was the same sound code as GZDoom. I haven't extensively tested it out, yet.

    Ok, if reverb is too high, then it must be decreased. I used this value for my Realtek ALC1200 integrated sound card: Crysis/Bin64/alsoft.ini # Use this to control EAX reverb volume. [reverb] boost=-10

      Different sound engine. RE4 UHD requires the old X3DAudio HRTF wrapper, which can only be found in mirrors online since the original page was taken down.

      GBADoom is cool for niche purposes. It can run the original 3 episodes and simplistic PWADs like Fava Beans fairly well. It doesn't crash after nearly every level like DSDoom does, so it's still the best way to play Doom on a DS or DS Lite. It also has zero input lag compared to the official ports, which is how I was still able to juke the Cacodemon projectiles at point blank at a mere 6FPS.

      Ehh, I'm not quite back for real yet. I've still got a lot of IRL responsibilities for now. I'm taking things slow, focusing mostly on the LavaMod for Doom Eternal project and posting on 3DJ's binaural audio Discord server. Maybe someday, I'll be able to return to 3D audio research, though.

It was originally recorded to be the April Fools' video for 2022, but after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I felt it would be in bad taste.     very cool! i enjoyed lavamod back in the day and wondered if you'd ever come back to finish it off. one thing i always meant to suggest is giving the precision bolt back its cooldown, i remember during my play through, even though i was trying to play the style of 2016 it was still very tempting to fall back on PB combos. i think the cooldown would encourage more 3 or 4 weapon combos instead of just PB+rocket/ballista

      I think I remember trying to experiment with that using the ripped 2016 charged burst .decl for reference, but I didn't quite understand what I was doing wrong. The new tools show _all_ the .decl modifiers, with the changes from the inherited .decls highlighted in orange.

    I feel like I'm setting myself for disappointment being kind of optimistic about the dark ages. It apparently not just being Doom Eternal TWO already makes it sound like a better game. Slower and being more about dodging projectiles and less centered on franticly flying circles around the inside of claustrophobic arenas, PLEASE that's sounding more of what i was asking for. Could really give less of a shit about the mech, dragon and dumb ass story though. also under the mayo still sucks? what a shocker. I remember how he would disparage other youtubers for besmirching doom eternal for similar criticisms he would give to dark souls and sekiro, that those games were boring and he kept dying to the same stuff over and over, I thought maybe it was a bit for a little bit but I think the dude is just like.. that stupid and needs to get good.

      One of the people who saw the Quakecon footage said the combat is focused mostly on parries and dodges, which makes it sound like _every_ enemy is going to be the Marauder now.

    EAX seems to only have that metallic tunnel echo (4:00) in some places, and only to some extent. I like how the echo sounds tight and has a specific frequency of repetition that randomly changes tone throughout certain places in the game. The weird thing however is that in some places like the fallen elevator, you can walk just up to there and it will start droning with this tight echo, and persist long after you start backtracking through places where it wasn't before, up until you hit a trigger point telling it to stop. Weird, right?

    A consistent issue I have with Under the Mayo is that he often lays out design decisions that feels like he's backseating the developers on how to make sections of a game that he's only playing through, as if he always knows better. It's always a running theme with anything not related to Doom Eternal; Dying Light, Batman, RE8, these games he unironically dislikes, and from where I'm sitting from it really has to do with a pattern of a gameplay loop that doesn't satisfy him. Video games aren't necessarily designed for everyone, he knows that, yet he comes knocking at the door saying that THIS aspect of this game sucks because there's not enough of X, too much of Y, etc etc. The recent Batman review he made really hits home the fact that he prefers a very specific form of gameplay loop, and that's fine. It's just that when critiquing a game, it's (at least imo) expected that you view it from as many perspectives as possible, or at the very least, find a different point of view where someone enjoys that part. Mayo's "I could see that-" seems to be his attempt, but I feel he often gets blindsided by his own opinions, given his review of Batman and Sekiro. Maybe I'm just riffing, idk, he always has me questioning him occasionally whenever I watch his reviews.

      I just find it funny how he's managed to unite so many different fandoms together with his bad takes. Other polarizing online reviewers like Gmanlives usually stay in their lane and review what they know. I also find it funny that with all his bad takes over the years, the only thing he's ever really walked back on was the TAG2 review. The criticisms were genuinely valid and called out shitty corporate practices.

      It's because there are now official mod tools, so hopefully it should be much easier to actually finish the mod as I had originally intended in 2021. This was just a quick demonstration to show off the ported combat shotgun, sticky bombs, streetsweeper, and heavy cannon. Hopefully, I'll be able to import all my new level assets...otherwise, this might just remain a weapons mod. :\

      @@eagleclaws1781 With the .decl editing, it's literally the same format as the unofficial mod tools. I could just import all my .decls if I wanted to, but I did it by hand for this test with the editor. I'm sure the level format is also the same, meaning I could just load the level asset files, paste all my additions, then use the map editor from then on to fix any placements, fix any broken triggers, add new items etc. Honestly, this is a very good thing. I've always been regretful that LavaMod not only didn't turn out the way I wanted, but was broken by a minor update as well. I'm going to be drip-feeding the new content as it comes out to try and introduce it to a new, wider audience. For instance, I plan on doing detailed videos on the LavaMod weapons when they're done to showcase how they've been rebalanced.

The good news is that the stock maps are already available as downloadable assets, so finishing the mod would mostly be as simple as placing the Things. I think there were some long-standing issues like 2016 Triple Burst not functioning properly, but any new .decl editors may be able to fix them.

    I logged onto doomworld for the first time in years and saw that mod tools for doom eternal were finally being released. It got me thinking if it would be possible to go back and finish lavamod as I had originally intended. As I went back to my old videos, however, I noticed in the sidebar a bunch of videos criticizing youtube channel under the mayo, who I haven't watched since early 2021. I was surprised to learn he's become quite an infamous character online. Just like the Dave oshry/New blood receipts, I figured I'd release this old excerpt talking about under the mayos hypocrisy over TAG2 for archival's sake. Yes, I came out of semi-permanent hiatus just to be petty...but it feels so good being vindicated by the popular opinion. Oh, and in case you're wondering what I think about doom the dark ages..."stand your ground" combat. Really?

      Yeah, I was talking with Mariko late last night on Discord to see if the "Hamburger Helper" thing I saw in a comment was true. I'm honestly shocked someone even cared enough to leave comments on a dead channel almost a year afterwards. I always did say back when the LP was on-going that I'd be willing to make content as long as there was someone out there willing to watch it.

      Yeah, I actually saw that when I logged onto Doomworld for the first time in years recently. I haven't had the free time to work on anything for this channel or the MIDI Museum in ages due to personal issues, but it did get me thinking if it would be actually be possible to finish LavaMod as I had intended back in 2021 without taking hundreds more hours. The biggest problem with developing LavaMod was needing to manually place every single item by playing the levels, marking XYZ co-ordinates with a console command, pasting new entries for items/enemies/scripted event triggers, then continuously having to reload the maps and alter the XYZ co-ordinates to make sure items weren't floating or underground. It was honestly a nightmare, and I could only thank the pandemic for giving me something like 800 hours to waste on this insane endeavor. Time will tell if we're able to actually edit stock maps...I'm not holding out hope, though. Currently, I'm studying how to port the Doom engine to the PSP. In 20 years time, there hasn't been a single good port for the platform even though the hardware is easily capable of it. Libretro-PRBoom is ALMOST there, but it suffers greatly due to the overhead and severe instability of RetroArch-PSP. If that project is ever successful, then I'd like to port it over to the DS/DSi platform as well to replace the infamously awful DSDoom.

      @@IDrinkLava That sounds rough... Luckily ID was still impressed by the mods that were created without any help. So now that very very tools were shared that were used to even make doom eternal, we now have much much more options. Even the first custom maps were made for eternal.

      I do not own the Zero 2, but based on graphs, it looks like it has a bit of a mid-bass hump that would add coloration to the sound. What a shame. I hope they don't discontinue this one, as I planned on buying 2 or 3 spares for the future.

    The mod may have an MIT license, but you need a fucking MIT degree to install this shit. Their descriptions suck, and they haven't updated it since the anniversary update for half life.

      Oh no...Meta Audio doesn't work with Half-Life anymore? What a tragedy...this was my favorite thing to ever come from the channel. I do remember that you have to put the metahook.exe next to the hl.exe, then you put the metahook sub-folder inside /valve or any mod directories.

    dolby feels good on my hyperx dts directions are hard to grasp. that old antique is pretty good. IDK how pubg managed to f*** their audio and the newer games that released after 2020 with this much of history behind great audio.. smh
