Bro You forgot to mention one important thing in this locomotive. Like WAP 5 and 7 the EMD WDP4 (Passenger locomotives) Also support HOG (Head On Generation) are enabled in Tughlakabad Shed Locomotives
Loved the video. Thanks for sharing information about these giants. I just love their horn as well as engine sounds. Like the way you mentioned in the last, once I also saw some 4 WDP/G 4s on a ride from Kozhikode to Coimbatore.... loved the ride
With India going 100% electric in a few years, the EMD diesel locos will be phased out. Some may be exported to Bangladesh and others will be converted to electric traction.
The EMDs were designed for MU’d operations where the long hood forward would never have come into play. In India where the locos are used as single units, the LHF visibility became a problem. IR has addressed this by adding cabs at both ends…In Europe, where single units are prevalent, EMD supplied twin cab units…
I love WDP4D AND WDG4 BOTH BECOZ OF ITS HORSPOWER,SOUND,POWER,DUALCABS AND THE LAST ENGINE SOUND ITS AWESOME WDP4 IS 1st locomotive on my favorite locomotives 😆💗😊😊😊
Apologies for my previous comment. Actually I noticed the same at Igatpuri to Kasara route. But I just came to know from others comment that due to testing purpose 2nd engine was attached with the 1st one.
Really good explanation of these locomotives, I learned quite a lot from this! What really interested me was the early EMD competitor with ALCO being preserved at the National Railway Museum, and the issues of running such a long locomotive with the long hood forward - EMD makes locos like that for use here in the states, where it is common to see two or three leading a train, but it definitely makes sense why some of the WDP4s had the second cab added. Good motion graphics as well!
Yes the long hoods can be a hassle here in India because at least in the case of passenger trains, locomotive are not assigned in Multiple Unit configuration.
My one peeve is, Indian railways hasn't invested in loco reversers at major locations which could reversed the loco so that loco would run with front cab /short hood ahead. Many times accidents have happened due to misjudgement and miscalculations done due to loco being driven with long hood ahead.
You mean “railway turntable”. In the age of steam, IR had railway turntables. In fact they were quite common. The advent of diesel and electrics reduced IR’ need for turntables and have been phased out.
That’s a good question… I never thought to research this. Will chek this out. But since EMD and GE are established locomotive manufacturers, I am assuming they must be building their own traction motors
Apurvaji...I have seen your pics and read your trip reports on so many trains and locomotives on IRFCA. I m a big fan and so happy that you took the time to see my video 😊

The heat mentioned at 6:30 is due to Resistors in the dynamic brake grid and not from the prime mover. The Diesel engine will produce heat as well as smoke quite independent of the resistors

As you said Why multi loco is used for Kochuveli express because After a major over hauling of engine it will be kept under trial and thoroughly monitored by the concern Shed for 5000 kms to avoid enroute failures and detention, Punctuality losses
