I feel bad about the people who gotta stand out in -20 degree cold waiting on the bus meanwhile I drive by in a heated car. Man this winter when it dropped to -40 with the windchill there were still Dr’s and nurses waiting at the bus stop. Seemed like they were barely dressed too.
My girlfriend is a nurse at the hospital and we stay at the aspire campus right now, so we kinda lucked out with the bus stop that’s just up the road.
I wanna put an ISU sticker on my car but it’ll get stolen😂

One thing that’s fantastic about Iowa City is how many writers, musicians, artists come through Iowa City for readings, conferences, and shows. It’s pretty incredible living in a town of less than 100,000 people and having access to cultural events that wouldn’t be found in larger cities.

Greetings from n.w. alabama. Thank you for all the great videos on the area. We have been coming to cedar rapids in early summer for last 4 years to visit family. We enjoy the area especially around cedar rapids. Usually when we come we get the gnats around the face. In n.w. alabama fire ants are bad here. It is not uncommon to have 15- 20 mounds in our yard in summer. we also have a few species of biting flies and horse flies in early summer. Alabama in summer is brutal. Dewpoints in ranges from upper 60's to upper 70's at times with temps in low to mid 90's from early june thru early september and lows in mid 70's at night.

Yeah those fire ants are not for me ha. I figured they were all over down south. I am not a fan. Biting flies sounds horrible as well. Sounds like you are in a really muggy and hot climate! 1.43% property taxes in outrageous! 1.43% of $285,000, wow!? Where I live it is only 1% of the sales price. Top 10 most humid states

      Illinois: 71% (tie)
      Indiana: 71% (tie)
      Google is NOT your friend.
I'm aware that Iowa can get very humid from time to time. The summer of 95, I was back in Iowa visiting, and it was a particularly hot and humid summer here in NC as well as Iowa.
But that was also a weird summer with "The Parade of Storms", etc.
if you want to beat the "humidity", go to Lake Okoboji.
That being said, The Iowa City bus system is 2nd to none. from 4th to 8th grade, I used to take the city bus from the Hawkeye Ct. Apts to Herbert hoover elementary, and then later to southeast jr high. No problems.
also, quite pedestrian/ and bike friendly.
My only complaint about Iowa city is the liberal factor.
The diversity factor of Iowa City it's because it gets people from all over the world because of the university of Iowa.
Most of those people, collage students, are quite transitory. Which is why it's mostly renters.
Look, when NC State is in session, plus all the other major and minor collages are in session, the population effectively doubles.
I'm sure it's safe to assume Iowa City does as well.
And no, you shouldn't argue, I was 3 and 4 when I witnessed the killer blizzards of 1976, and 1977. Where were you?
Out in the country, on the highway that passes the uni dome, snow deep enough to bury a car. and driving though it was a tunnel/ trench of snow.
I remember when the UNI Dome had an air pressurized roof. My grandparent's farmhouse is 5 miles due east of the UNI Dome.
I know that state very well, as well as some choice locations, and its humidity compared to other places.

Born & raised in NW Iowa. Love my family still living there, but I came to CO for a job and haven't left. My Iowa dislikes: #1 humidity, #2 insects, #3 more days are overcast then not (probably due to humidity). Mom always used to warn someone leaving our farm at dusk to watch for deer. Iowa City has always been known as "liberal" due to the university. Unfortunately the cities in Iowa have become more democrap over the years. Some positives: governor Kim Reynolds, and you can't beat Iowa sweet corn or tomatoes ;)

8 years there, escaped. Drove me nuts on nearly every level. Police dept. is useless unless arresting as many undergrads as they can cuff. No jobs except minimum wage unless you work at the main hospital or the U. Bugs you'll never learn names for but that belong in horror flicks. Snakes crossing the road. Overbearing humidity, summers horrific. They can't even differentiate street names. That muppet accent, that odd Midwestern passive-aggressiveness from everyone in yellow & black resembling overgrown bees. Potholes galore. Somehow winters were pretty much the only thing that didn't get on my nerves, & I was on a bike. Be aware of malignant white males in their old age who'll deliberately try to run you off the road. Theft, lots of thieves there, more than any other State I've lived in; even my porcelain garden gnome bunny someone walked off with, $40 at Menards & I am *still* bitter (it's green, stands upright, the size of a gigantic toddler if you see it). The Goodwill is slammin' though, the only store worth buying clothes. It's also fun when tornado alarms go off, which everyone ignores. The river flooded when I was there & we moved books out of the library basement. I never saw even one deer. Overpaid obese admin types who adore red tape so lotsa luch with those dissertation rules. Anyway, the open fields are gorgeous with all that corn & you'll feel, the entire time, like you're stuck on a farm patch out in the middle of nowhere with locals who've never traveled more than 200 miles in any direction. Deliverance, banjos, mosquitoes the size of grasshoppers. And it's like time travel, transported back to the 1970s dealing with anyone not your race, as people stay separated in a very uncanny dynamic. Oh, almost forgot: Hy-Vee. What I wouldn't give to walk in Hy-Vee just one more time before I perish of old age. Now THAT'S customer service. Get their in-house cheesecake with the berries on top. Hmm, what'd you say those housing prices were now? 😂

Compared to NJ the Midwest people are just very open and friendly, and it's not as densely crowded. If I move to Iowa City I think it would be a good fit for me.
