It isn't obvious, because not only do Gishkis and Necroz (Ritual spamming) have a much different play style compared to the Ice Barriers (Lockdown with Synchros), thus implying difference, a ritual theme is only prevalent in a couple cards of ice barriers out of a total 18-20 Ice barrier cards, and in terms of what does connect them when it comes to lore, its mostly just a bunch of crappy to decent cards that aren't connected to any archetype which you would overlook and forget about as a result.
I also forgot to mention a single tidbit of information that connects them to the Ice Barriers whilst not outright stating they are descendant from them, this is also considering that the final event in the first duel terminal story line was Trishula freezing the entire planet. LivingShadow 35 we haven't got all of the level 2s yet, wetlands Ice Barriers could be meta again. Honestly, could be a very good format for them to shine.
How doez that help? Almost all of the duel terminal cards were complete dogshit aside from dragunity which later got its own structure deck and that busted as fuck dragon ravine. Genex who the fuck knows,Allies way too obsessed with light, mist valley was incomplete. Flamvells did nothing and worms were only used for joke builds. Fableds were decent but was mostly pointless with automatic discarding. That whole first season was mind boggling
I keep having dreams that I'm tag dueling with The One Whose Shape was Snatched; things look good until he summons his boss monster, Shapesnatch and we lose.
I mean shock troops was used in shaddolls, to fusion the water fusion to prevent future ritual summons. Plus the deck wasn't really reliant on its normal summon besides mathematician or star seraphs. It was an alright tech
sd sd Actually, if you read the flavor text then it explains that "ShapeSnatch" is the BowTie and "The One Whose Shape Was Snatched" is the monster. The Bowtie is a machine, the creature itself is unknown, as it's shape has been snatched
I came here after the Ice Barriers 2: Freezing Boogaloo video to see how were after they got their support and... yeah they pretty much went from barely playable to okay-ish playable.
Thank you. I fuckin fell in love with ice barriers over duel links and I’m so glad you decided to clear the air about ice barriers. Love your videos and the refreshingly funky accent.
Well but atleast they have 3 level 4 Spellcasters (and all of them are OK atleast) and 4 lvl 2 Aquas (Full wetlands beatdown setup i guess?). And you will propably only play these and maybe Defender other than any kind of boss monster.
Good episode on Ice Barrier. I would love for other Duel Terminal archetypes to be covered. Since Flamvells were done LOTW, it would be cool to see their (arguably) successor Lavals be covered. As well as Dragunity.
Eh I wouldn't call it upper tier. Its just a fairly decent otk deck as it can pop a card and bring out around 6k damage a turn. though it also bricks a lot, making it a bit less than top tier.
Surprised that you didn't bring up Water Hazard helping with swarming and Synchro Summons, but as someone who played Ice Barriers, I agree with what you said. They're largely obsolete, but still better than the LotW archetypes
And then the Arcana Forces did eat that medallion 3 years later. Until it promptly turned upside down and made them spit out whatever their opponent needed at that very moment. It's like finding an oasis in the desert, only to discover shortly after drinking that there was a 50/50 chance to feel refreshed or start pissing battery acid.
Well I prefer the original The One Whose Shape Was Snatched, but this one is a nice support Monster for the archetype that keep the Shapesnatch meta consistent.
I love these videos. They're great to have on while multitasking (making food, folding laundry). Could you do a video about Watts? They're pretty unique as the only direct attach archetype to see play (Earthbound's never caught on), they have a collection of double-attackers, and the Watthopper lock used to be infamous during the days of the Samurai and Inzektors.
I can't wait for the structure deck to be released! Mostly for the synchros and the artworks, but also because I really want to try to see how it manages against the Sacred Beast structure deck (which I found to be amazingly good).
Man, way to strike while the iron is cold, rata! I think you need to chill with these archetypes from as far back as the ice ages. I'm sorry if this comes across as a bit cold, i actually think your content is very cool, and you seem like an ice guy.
I play ice barriers casually, mostly bc I love the artwork. With the new Graydle Slime and Eagle, Aqua Spirit and Undine, they're actually fairely decent. Obviously nothing near any Tier 1 (or even Tier 3) Decks but fun to mess around with with your friend. It's fun to pull of a complete lock with the dog, dai-sojo and guards.
Clem de la Clem also running the aquarium cards for added protection, and the barrier statue of the torrent to lock out all non-water SS, my build wrecked locals back then.
Give them pendulum summoning support and problem solved. A scale of 1 and an opposite scale of 9, this way you can spam the field for their synchros and use their mediocre effects more effectively.
Lore wise, the ice barrier dragons were never meant to be released which explains why A. That mirror bullshit exists And B. Why they suck at summoning their synchros
I had sh*t loads of fun with a hybrid ice barrier/frogs lock down and Wetlands beatdown deck. If I remember correctly, it had a fair share of direct attack options and 'nope' cards.
Reason they can't easily summon the ice dragons is because they were never meant to be released since they were pretty much flying WMDs that would end the world if they were released. Same reason why mirror hard counters the ice dragons because it is what they used to keep them sealed. Mirror is actually supposed to be a hard counter against a player who you know will be summoning the ice dragons.
Reminds me of Evently Matched and its adjacent cards countering Six Samurai despite being Six Samurai themed cards. Its a reference to the storyline the cards are depicting, where the kagemusha challenges and duels Shien in an attempt to kill him.
A good video as always, got a ton of laughs out of this one, but Blizzed was a secret rare in Hidden arsenal, which was an all holo set where every pack had a secret rare so it wasn't THAT bad.
xseaver I think Iron Chains had a really cool idea but they just never expanded on it. Given what they already have, it would be incredibly easy to make new support for them.
I actually used an ice barrier deck in Duel Links, and it worked really well in ranked. This was quite a while ago though, back when the game was much slower than it is now. It was very gimmicky but worked well enough. It relied on the Magic Triangle spell along with the monster that removes spell/trap cards.
@@dracometeors3010 how is it better card? It can't sustain itself and must be pendulum summoned, spellbreaker? you can even link it or xyx it of to bahamut shark if you want to turn it off.
@@dracometeors3010 trust me they just need a continuous spell that give them extra normal summon then search water monster equal to it's level/atk if an IB monster is summoned. If they got that it will be a really nasty deck to deal with like guru control.
The mirror's bizarre effect was another case of lore theming. The mirror was the magic item used by the ice barriers to entrap Trishula. That is why it seems to counter its effects despite being an ice barrier card and having Trishula designs in the card art.
You're hilarious man I was dying!!!!! I've been playing ice barriers when I got back into yugioh about 4 years ago and when I first picked them up I thought that they were one of the most incredible decks ever created and to my disappointment I was tragically mistaken lol. I still have them to this day and honestly I can say without being biased that this deck is far from terrible it just lacks speed and consistency. If this deck could swarm then they would have a huge chance to be a deck worth noting. Their leffects are semi decent and they're able to provide many different options and boards. They just take too damn long and aren't even worth it when you finally get the board you desire, granted you've had the chance to do so. I love this deck to pieces and I don't think I can ever give them up no matter how much people hate the archetype they will hold a special place in my heart so leave them along or I'll crush you :3

We finally broke Rata everyone. I hope you're proud of yourselves.
yes.
Reporting from 2020. It only gets worse for Rata tbh
Fun fact: Ice Barriers were meta in duel links
And back to the trash they go.
I don't believe you even if it was true
As a survivor of the dark time of IB being meta, lemme say, you kids don't need the PTSD of that war...
What the fuck happened to the voice of the one whos shape is snatch, did his voice was snatched?
ЇӍБЯөҜЄҋ BRING OG BACK!
Kamenriderdecade105 Agreed.
what are you talking about
it's always been like that
Ricardo Narvaez
“did his voice was snatched“
It hink you got snatched long ago
sd sd Actually, if you read the flavor text then it explains that "ShapeSnatch" is the BowTie and "The One Whose Shape Was Snatched" is the monster. The Bowtie is a machine, the creature itself is unknown, as it's shape has been snatched
the bear sleeps for another month
Who else is watching this after the structure deck won the poll and are now preparing for a Ice barrier format?
I came here after the Ice Barriers 2: Freezing Boogaloo video to see how were after they got their support and... yeah they pretty much went from barely playable to okay-ish playable.
God man I just love this channel. I love ur well timed humor and intros. I can always count on a great upload. Keep doin u man.
Thank you. I fuckin fell in love with ice barriers over duel links and I’m so glad you decided to clear the air about ice barriers. Love your videos and the refreshingly funky accent.
For fuck's sake Rata, for many of us it's past 2 a.m. and this is 25 minutes of sleep we're going to miss.
Never change.
"Are we going to talk about Ghostricks or Vampires?"
I just love going back to old videos and have a laugh..
"patreon to get the chanel going"
fuck that, someone give this guy money to feed himself, that frezzer is fucking empty
Its cause the food got its shape snatched.
Came here today because new Ice barrier got new support, with a bigger Trish.
"Techs I'm Ties of the Brethren then realizes there different types"
Well but atleast they have 3 level 4 Spellcasters (and all of them are OK atleast) and 4 lvl 2 Aquas (Full wetlands beatdown setup i guess?). And you will propably only play these and maybe Defender other than any kind of boss monster.
The update video for this will be the coolest thing you ever do.
If he ever does
Something
I comeback from new video to hear he ranting about royal knight again :))))))))
Same XD
Good episode on Ice Barrier. I would love for other Duel Terminal archetypes to be covered. Since Flamvells were done LOTW, it would be cool to see their (arguably) successor Lavals be covered. As well as Dragunity.
Just came back here after seeing the new ice barriers especially the new Trishula in town.
Oh look: An upper tier Duel Links deck.
Also... ICE ICE BABY.
This is a really timely find for me cause I am currently loving Ice Barriers on Duel Links!
Thank you Rata this means so much to me! I love Ice Barrier
GX song, Noice, Also your comment on comments at the beginning ruined me xD
SHURIT, STRATEGIST OF THE NEKROZ You being here ruined it for me.
SGplaysIt Cool #StaySalty
SHURIT, STRATEGIST OF THE NEKROZ cool, #stayscum
SGplaysIt Cool #StayMadForNoReason
SHURIT, STRATEGIST OF THE NEKROZ this implies I don't have a reason to not like you.
Ice Barriers have always been my personal favorite decks.
0:07 The One Whose Voice Was Snatched (BTW love the new Shapesnatch voice)
i love you too
Mathew Ricafrente I prefer the old voice.
Well I prefer the original The One Whose Shape Was Snatched, but this one is a nice support Monster for the archetype that keep the Shapesnatch meta consistent.
Jimblus I heard of you?
"'Ave you become a fuckin' lardarse?!"
You have the best sense of humor! You’re my favorite UA-camr, keep up the amazing effort!
*Inserts quotes from Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze from Batman and Robin*
*THE ICE AYYYJJJJJEHHHHHHH*
CHILL!
Cool party.
Lets kick some ice!
OH MY GOODNESS!!!
Don't let your dreams be memes kids.
would love Vampire Archetype Archive for Halloween
i came home from a long day of work and school and im so relieved rank10ygo posted his monthly archetype archieve
14:00 - 14:59. THINGS LIKE THIS ARE GOLDEN!
Welcome back to Rata slowly but surely giving us a house tour.
Man, way to strike while the iron is cold, rata! I think you need to chill with these archetypes from as far back as the ice ages. I'm sorry if this comes across as a bit cold, i actually think your content is very cool, and you seem like an ice guy.
....... There is a god. I've found my soulmate!
And by that I mean someone else who loves bad puns.
1:40 number of archtypes worse than ice barriers: 11. Number of videos in legacy of the worthless: 13.
Genex and worms: I'M STILL WORTHY
Medallion may get limited in the future.
Just let that sink in...
Dropped shit at work just to watch this
Regret nothing
Hopefully you at least remembered to pick it up afterwards and washed your hands thoroughly.
Keep bathroom floors clean.
Runningon Cylinders you can't tell me what to do. You're not my mom anymore
Didn't you already make an ice barrier video hurr, so subversive
Wait this is new? I was watching a random Archetype Archive and I clicked on this randomly. What a treat huh?
You know the reason we all are here
good vid Rata, glad to see ya tackle one of the most prominent races of the duel terminal saga
I would've adored a Ghostrick video. It's one of my favorite archetypes of all time.
the GX theme gives me so much nostalgia
Give them pendulum summoning support and problem solved. A scale of 1 and an opposite scale of 9, this way you can spam the field for their synchros and use their mediocre effects more effectively.
Lore wise, the ice barrier dragons were never meant to be released which explains why
A. That mirror bullshit exists
And
Here after Freezing Chains: Revengeance of Trishula.
Am I the only one who keeps coming back to this video to listen to Rata going in on Royal Knight?
Archetype Archive: Iron Chains. 'Nuff said.
dude yes please I honestly an interested in iron chains and like them glad someone acknowledges them
xseaver I think Iron Chains had a really cool idea but they just never expanded on it. Given what they already have, it would be incredibly easy to make new support for them.
yep good thinking also excellent profile name
Not sure if he will ever cover it given that it seems to be one part mill & one part burn. Also they've got an out of place dragon.
I actually used an ice barrier deck in Duel Links, and it worked really well in ranked. This was quite a while ago though, back when the game was much slower than it is now. It was very gimmicky but worked well enough. It relied on the Magic Triangle spell along with the monster that removes spell/trap cards.
If this becomes meta with the structure it’s gonna be poetic
It will be like ok
Never they gonna make this Tier 1
@@dracometeors3010 you know spellbreaker?
That girl can do something nasty
@@r3zaful
Ok but even Amorphage Lechery for example is a better card...
I love these guys. Their design and all that "ice" motif, makes them rather (no pun intended) "cool".
well ice barriers won so they got support incoming. So guess u did it again, thank you
Ice barriers easily have some of the best artworks in the game
Anyone ever tell you you're the Filthy Frank of Yugitubers?
that's a compliment if i ever heard one
U know it.
The mirror's bizarre effect was another case of lore theming. The mirror was the magic item used by the ice barriers to entrap Trishula. That is why it seems to counter its effects despite being an ice barrier card and having Trishula designs in the card art.
D-Does this mean Gustos are next? Gib it to me Train-Daddy!
I love this deck to pieces and I don't think I can ever give them up no matter how much people hate the archetype they will hold a special place in my heart so leave them along or I'll crush you :3
The madman, he's done it!
I used to play Ice Barrier Lockdown a few years ago. Ah... the glory days
