I just learned that he died due to injuries sustained from a motorcycle wreck. Apparently, he'd swerved to avoid some kids on bicycles, was thrown over the handlebars, and got busted up pretty bad. A paper (or something) at the time called it "avoidable" as well. If you ask me, that seems a rather undignified death after all he had done, but on the bright side, his death inspired a doctor to study motorcycle deaths, which lead to the use of helmets by civilian _and_ military riders.
I was depressed after reading about Lawrence's life after the first war. He really fought for what he believed in and was betrayed by his own government to the point of refusing all the fame he deservedly earned. And he died in such an unfortunate way.
In death he saved countless others. The doctor examining his body was inspired to study head impacts and thus the science, creation, and perfection of motorcycle helmets began. A motorcycle helmet saved me from a full face impact with a bird at 55 MPH. He did not die in vain.
@@cringefest4999 You must read the Seven Pillars. Lawrence was sent to Africa to free the countries from the Ottoman domain with the promise that these countries would be free. It was with this promise that he gained the trust of regional leaders. However, when the Ottomans were expelled, European countries led by England dominated the newly liberated countries, imposing dictators almost or even as cruel as the Ottoman dominators. There's one Lawrence quote that I'm sad I didn't see in this video. Lawrence became aware of the nascent Sykes-Picot Agreement in mid-1916, and being an idealist who thoroughly believed in the Arab independence revolt, it started devouring him from inside. In a message to Colonel Gilbert Clayton, his handler, he wrote: “Clayton. I’ve decided to go off alone to Damascus, hoping to get killed on the way: for all sakes try and clear this show up before it goes further. We are calling them to fight for us on a lie, and I can’t stand it.” --T. E. Lawrence, June 5, 1916
"I'm popping off to Damascus for a bit, see if I can catch a bullet or maybe a bomb. See to it you fix this fuck up while I'm dead, cuz it's bullshit." The man says in all but plain text, because he's a proper British gentleman.

Lawrence is sort of my idol. It's the best example of a brave gentleman officer, who knows and respect the native culture. And I feel very bad for Arabs betrayed by the British after the war - if the hardheads in London listened to T.E the Middle East would be a much better place by now
@@Ackalan I think you have misunderstood the op's comment. He said that the Middle East would have been in a better condition than nowadays. And no Middle East was not always a hellhole. If you can say that then you can also say the same about Europe, Asia, Africa and pretty much everywhere there were civilizations.
It cleared up one lyric I'd been consistently mishearing--"The Pillars of Wisdom can tell" kept coming up in my head as "the will of the West, one can tell". Which only makes half sense but worked well in context.
I live pretty much around where he lived after the war. His house is up the road from me, along with the site where he had his accident. The bike he was riding is in a local museum and I can walk to the church where he is laid to rest. He's everywhere!

as someone whos great great grandpa served under larwence. i am very happy keep it up sabaton i wish my great great granpa was still here to tell his story.
At long last a mention of Arabian history in Sabaton! Wish the next one revolves more on the Arabs than a single English man. Been jamming to this since it was released.
I am a descendant of the Ottomans. And I don't consider the Arabs enemies. You are Muslims, we are brothers. And Lawrence, it turns out, took advantage of our differences for his own purposes.
I'm Spanish, and we've had our fair share of Islamic history (seven hundred years of islamization tends to have that effect on people). I don't know what other people around here think, but I believe there would be less racism and prejudice against Muslims if their history was taught correctly. That's just me, though; feel free to tell me your impressions on the topic.
I've been studying the Palestinian campaign of WW1 and T.E. Lawrence in particular lately (No particular reason other than immense curiosity), reading his autobiography and those of some that knew him during the campaign, (Such as "With Lawrence in Arabia" by Lowell Thomas) as well as reading some of the books that T.E. Lawrence cited as influences for him (such as "A history of the art of war in the middle ages" by C.W.C. Oman) and I just stumbled on this video by accident. It is absolutely amazing. I've since gone ahead and listened to the entire "The Great War" album several times today. While it is my understanding that Lawrence felt like he failed the Arab people and thought that his fame and status as a hero was undeserved, even turning down a knighting ceremony by the King of England in protest of the betrayal of the Arab people by the allied governments with the Sykes-Picot agreement, he was a man who accomplished some really incredible feats. One of my favorite historical figures. Interestingly, The Seven Pillars of Wisdom, although technically published in 1926, was not published publicly until 1935. The 1926 edition was a private edition primarily given away to close friends or family and only a few copies were actually sold (in some cases he actually wrote letters to the purchasers attempting to dissuade them from purchasing the book.). The abridged version of the book: "Revolt in the Desert" was printed publicly in 1927, but is, I believe, around half the length.
"Deception or treason... who CAN TELL, who stood to gain, who stood lose? who did the dying? betrayal of trust from within or compelled the pillars of wisdom CAN TELL" That was perfect.
This song will always have a special place in my heart cause one year ago on Oct. 5 I had this song stuck in my head when I had to put my best friend down. I was listening to Sabaton with him in my room a few days before I had to say goodbye. So Sabaton thank you for giving me good memories with my best friend.

We try to honour all heroes around the world, Angelo. it's a hard job, because there are many of them, but we're working on it everyday!
Lawrence is sort of my idol. It's the best example of a brave gentleman officer, who knows and respect the native culture. And I feel very bad for Arabs betrayed by the British after the war - if the hardheads in London listened to T.E the Middle East would be a much better place by now
I think you've misunderstood how the middle east works. It's been a genocidal hellhole since before the dawn of civilization.
@@Ackalan a land where empires are born,

@@Ackalan I think you have misunderstood the op's comment. He said that the Middle East would have been in a better condition than nowadays. And no Middle East was not always a hellhole. If you can say that then you can also say the same about Europe, Asia, Africa and pretty much everywhere there were civilizations.

well its Sabaton what do you expect not gonna get bad music from them are you
I think everyone has memorised this great song already - I suppose this is for new fans
Just in case, one never knows!
@@Sabaton Indeed. Keep up your great work!

This ideo was uploaded in my birthday. I will take it like a present. Thanks you Sabaton!
Happy birthday!

Remember watching Lawrence of Arabia with my grandparents (nan was a massive o'toole fan and granddad loved war flicks) good to see sabaton dedicating a song to a man history betrayed!
been a Sabaton fan for years now, however this is the song that gave me 'sabaton syndrome' where on my first listen i wasn't really a fan of it, couldn't tell you why i didn't like it at the time but i wasn't sold on it, several listens later and couple of years and it's now up there with my favourites, very strange phenomenon but it does exist lol.

Who let Sabaton write their best song ever... and then make it so short! Too good to ever end!
Sabaton is one of the many epic metal bands that make me keep playing guitar while feeling like a warrior
Love this band so much!
Just started learning about WW1 in history class recently, I was considering including the playlist for this in my next assignment I turn in. I wonder if my teacher already knows about Sabaton, if not I'll introduce him.

as someone whos great great grandpa served under larwence. i am very happy keep it up sabaton i wish my great great granpa was still here to tell his story.
Just can't get enough!!! Amazing work gentlemen 👍
Thank you!
@@jorgegonzalezavila9376 thats really right. I agree with you
well their song counter strike mentions arabs but well on the losing side
This song is those types of song I never get tired of hearing
"Deception or treason... who CAN TELL, who stood to gain, who stood lose? who did the dying? betrayal of trust from within or compelled the pillars of wisdom CAN TELL"
That was perfect.
This song will always have a special place in my heart cause one year ago on Oct. 5 I had this song stuck in my head when I had to put my best friend down. I was listening to Sabaton with him in my room a few days before I had to say goodbye. So Sabaton thank you for giving me good memories with my best friend.

As a malaysian,i would love to sing this song and teach other students about T.E Lawrence because he's in the "forgotten hero" list in my school, alot of people need to have some respect to a hero who helps other nation.
Wtf he just tricked Arabs for UK's benefits how is he a hero lol
@@petbabyrammus8467 Their is debate if he knew the full plans of brass ir not. The thinking is he came with one mission then fell in love with the arabian people and tried to help them avoid british plans he feared but could not confirm were coming.
@@Denozo88 that's just romantisicing it. There isn't a single evidence that proves he did what he did for the Arabs. Especially if you look at the result nothing good cam out of it for them. Only for the British.
@@petbabyrammus8467 That maybr true but their is no evidence to prove he knew what about the Sykes-picot agreement. Part of the reasoning is his push for Damascus which was contrary to the fighting in the previous 2 years in the region by the fighters under his command.

I discovered one of my customers likes sabaton, the man came out to move his car and saw my sabaton hat and gave me a compliment on it, I’ve wore this hat for years and never once got a compliment, kinda made me happy.
There were two WW1 heroes who had surname Lawrence. Everyone of them was a great soldier and extraordynary person.
Yet again their songs never cease to impress me.
I love Sabaton so much, their lyrics are so powerful that I want to go fight for Arabia, despite me not ever planning to even go there.
One of my favorite songs. This is literally the coolest form of learning about history. Stay save.
