Five years later, and this video is still aiding decisions! I was caught between decisions on a 2016 Dodge Durango or a 2016 Explorer Sport; and this video contributed to my decision towards the Explorer Sport! Thanks for this!
Excellent video! I'm a Ford/Lincoln sales consultant in Pennsylvania and I learned more from this video than from some of Ford's training materials. Well put together and very informative, thank you!
I'm an owner of the 2015 Explorer Sport and I agree this is a refresh but I do like the buttons for the climate control. Buttons are always better. I will add for all the people who say the unibody Explorer is a mommy mobile check into the the lift kits available. I lifted mine and I have close to 12" of ground clearance and with the right tires the Haldex 4x4 system, the very same one found in some Land Rover's, will take you off road more places than you think. When my lease ended on my 2013 F150 King Ranch Supercrew 4x4 with the FX4 package I was really surprised at my Explorer Sport 4x4 taking on some of the same trails and being better because of it's shorter overall wheelbase. And don't even get me started on how good my 2015 Mustang GT is, I love that car :)
You've really sparked my interest in the 2016 explorer. I'm a Ford man heck I even bleed blue. (I'm known for my sleeper 801 rwh 2011 mustang gt.) But my wife owns a Lexus RX 350 seeing this video I think you have changed her mind. Thanks for the help and a great video.
Thank you for actually having the specs in front of you. And the illustration. So many reviewers try to give specs from memory and often don't execute well. Very informative and detailed. Appreciate the video
Awesome job Mitch!! You are as thorough as I would be in describing a vehicle. Maybe make a follow-up video and cover some options like park assist and driving the vehicle showing the blind spot monitoring system etc. Shooting in 4K is also a nice touch because of the detail of the video showing just how beautiful that Ruby Red color is! My wife and I are buying our 2016 Ruby Red Sport Explorer today as a matter of fact!! It is equipped with everything you mentioned.
Just purchased a 16 explorer sport in all black for my wife and 4 kiddos. She loves it. Also, outstanding job on the video! Very informative. Coming from a 06 Expedition this is an absolute win!
Great review! Normally I get bored with these basic walk through videos but he kept me entertained while informed definitely looking into getting this soon
Man this car looks amazing, kinda reminds me of a range rover but that lower climate control section of the dash looks horrendous and the mpg is the same as my 2004 ford explorer.
you helped very much and have made me want the 2016 ford explorer sport for my next vehicle. I just want to know if they will have a ride height adjustment option?
Love the look if this suv! I've been a truck person all my life and am looking at getting my first car and I'm liking the explorer. It's a huge jump from my '94 F-250
Agreed. Very informative. I actually just purchased a 2016 Sport and my sales rep didn't show me the 3rd row access button to flip the second row ahead - cool. I would really like to know how to access the trailer hitch though - its hidden well.
this is a really good video. I was contemplating either a f150 for work and towing a small tools trailer with it but knowing I have a baby daughter and am family oriented I love this suv. really good information in this. good to know Toyota and Mercedes don't have truly cooled air seats that's something new I learned. but the sport model seems amazing, we'll build and looks really nice. I like it a lot. go ford
Is their an over ride feature for the folding rear seats? My 2005 expedation slot has the automatic folding seats but they stopped working so now they are stuck up.
I had the 2013 explorer for two weeks as a rental and came away impressed with the quality feel however the handling was very doll which may or may not be a problem for others it was for me. Reminded me definitely of a Range Rover sport
JP here from Miami Florida I love the new look of the 2016 Ford Explorer now instead of crashing the vehicle after you test it you should raffle the vehicle and that brings more customers to the Ford JP Miami Florida
I'm don't currently own any Ford product but this video presentation was pretty good and a lot of information was provided. Good clear audio and video.
Epd468 Yes, that is one of the unique things about the Platinum Ford models. It will have alot of satin chrome all around the vehicle, including on the back. Even the Ford emblem will be changed for the first time ever to the satin chrome!
Really liked your review, alot of information. i was really looking to find out how the drive is, but your review does not have it. Do you think the 2.3L ecoboost pack enough power ? or do i need the 3.5V6 ecoboost? thanks
The "sport" version looks amazing when compare to the standard model. With the addition of after market products like a front and rear bar, winch, front skid cover, etc.... it will be awesome! The front grill should be made into chrome with the side skirts and both bumpers fuller colored matching with the body plus additional carbon fiber lids will give the SUV a better outlook.... please bring it on!
Excellent video, I have one question; When, will SYNC 3 be available for Ford Explorer? I'm waiting for that upgrade to buy my first ever FORD Product. Thanks Mr. Watts
I can't buy from you cause i live in Québec, but i want to tell you, that you are the most brilliant and interesting guy i have seen giving a description of a car so far, plus i love this suv, and plan to buy one.
Does the Interior seat colour come in different colours so instead of Almond I could get them in black. I can see that getting stained by different clothes like jeans very easily. Also, if the seating leather is too soft then I can see it wearing and even tearing very easily... how durable is it? Does it have lumbar support? it would have been cool if Ford threw in a 9-speed tranny... the current 6 has been around for a while... Also, can you feed either video and picks from both cameras to a recording storage device?
This was pretty informative. I work for a ford dealer in Boston so its nice to see the new explorer compared side by side with the old one. Good job, but I have to say the part where he "struggled" to unscrew that plastic antenna was kinda funny. It's anything but a hassle to take off.
Fantastic video, thanks so much for going so in-depth on everything. I've been interested in the '16 Explorer Sport since it was first shown and wondered about a lot of these things. If you can recall, was there additional storage under the floor of the cargo area in the rear? Meaning, when the 3rd row is completely stowed, would there still be an area for *some* cargo? Keep up the great work!
I do not know if you know this yet, but they need to have a v6 premium for the 2016 Ford Mustang. With it is touch screen tech, leather seats, performance package
FastRedPonyCar We had one that came in and it sold immediately. We have another one in the plant right now that should be here within a couple of weeks. It is an ingot silver with the 400A package.
these innovations by ford are great. i love the camera angles and the auto folding seats, very neat. also kudos to them for keeping physical front console buttons. touch screen buttons for every control is just not needed and is less effective imo.
I saw other videos that mention upgraded (softer leather) material on the dash board and door panels on the Platinum level explorer. Does the Sport level offer the upgraded leather appointments like the Platinum or still the harder plastic? Also, the platinum has a 600 watt optional audio system, will that be an option on the Sport? To me its a matter of preference between the sport and platinum, they should both offer the higher quality options.
66skate It will be more towards the Summer of 2015. Just a few months after you start seeing the other models of it. If I were to guess, early July/late June.
I wish our dealership in San Diego was this informative. Instead, I had the dumb lady telling me that the XLT doesn't offer cloth seats. Customers should not be more knowledgeable about a sellers product.
Charley Hawkins You act like they all had diseases and spread them all over or something. Oh, and they all farted on your seat too btw. I have never been to an auto show, but from videos of auto shows that I have seen the only people who might of 'sat' in it are media people. I doubt there were 1k+ media people at the show. And even if there were and/or they let just anybody sit in it...it's an accord, doesn't exactly 'wow' anybody - no reason to sit in it lol. So, a little interior clean on the dash/steering wheel and you'll be all good. Not that any diseases that they might of spread are still alive, anyways. Oh and one more thing.. they just sat in it, not drove it. If they all drove it, then maybe I wouldn't even buy it as a used car.
Charley Hawkins It's not a big deal. With all the test drives at dealerships, I have noticed scratches on automobiles I've paid over 50k for new from the dealership. As long as you bought it straight out it's okay, if you leased it I would have a big problem with some of the issues your talking about because you could be liable and face a 2k or more turn in fee. I guess I'll close by saying life is short, be happy you are in the position to buy a new car in America today.
I Need a Geek Over the weekend I test drove and then took home (from Saturday to Monday- 'to see if I liked it') a 2016 sorento. It had 6 miles on it when I left the lot, so I was the first test drive.. it had a scratch on the plastic by the driver's door handle already and a rock chip on the front bumper.
Its the domestics that employ most of our population. You should stand for something. You couldn't give me foreign car. I prefer my money stays in my country.
dennisscipio Yeah. Considering how Ford used to be majority owner of both brands - and still has a small percentage of ownership in Aston Martin (8%, I think). Some similarity in design philosophies aren't surprising.
I actually test drove the XLT yesterday in Louisiana. It was not as refined as I was hoping, felt sort of clunky (had non eco 6 cylinder). Also there were a lot of open patches not covered up where seats and bars met the frame of the car. I was kind of surprised cause the Sport here looked so nice.
no. teens are some of the worst drivers. they get cocky try to show off and have little to no exp at driving. all beginner cars should be crap cars. like mine was a 500 dollar 1991 geo prizim lol. pos it was 0-60 in like 22 sec. but got 42mpg on highway. just before I sold it I was jumping show hills in a parking lot. lol. then I got a 2011 ford Taurus sel. I am soon going to upgrade. I wanted a sho but because of snow I am look at if I want an edge or an explorer. hey jon what would you prefer?
Sounds it is a perfectly new design. I really look forward to trying it by my own. Now the concern is the price. If it is (the sport trim) is around $40,000, that would be very competitive to its challengers.
Can't believe I watched this all the way through. Best presentation regarding intro to a new car I've ever seen. Outstanding...dude knows his stuff.
+19brandon66 Good to hear... Thanks!!

Excellent video! I'm a Ford/Lincoln sales consultant in Pennsylvania and I learned more from this video than from some of Ford's training materials. Well put together and very informative, thank you!
Bryan Kisner That is what we are aiming for! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the kind words.
I'm an owner of the 2015 Explorer Sport and I agree this is a refresh but I do like the buttons for the climate control. Buttons are always better.

I just bought a used 2016 Ford Explorer Sport. This helped me learn things about my car I did not know. Thank you!!
Thank you for actually having the specs in front of you. And the illustration. So many reviewers try to give specs from memory and often don't execute well. Very informative and detailed. Appreciate the video
Glad you enjoyed! 👊🏻
Mr. Watts, thank you for the excellent video and for being so well spoken and knowledgeable!!!
This is one of the most informative and useful car reviews I have ever watched. Great job!
+Jon Kurz thanks! Glad you enjoyed!

Thanks for the video! Great walk through of the Sport and other trim levels.
Looks great & great first look. The only thing that is stopping me from potentially getting this vehicle is no upgrade to Sync 3...
Man this car looks amazing, kinda reminds me of a range rover but that lower climate control section of the dash looks horrendous and the mpg is the same as my 2004 ford explorer.
Ford owned range rover thats why the look alike
one the best reviews ive seen... nice job man !
you helped very much and have made me want the 2016 ford explorer sport for my next vehicle. I just want to know if they will have a ride height adjustment option?
They do not have an adjustable ride height option. That would be a great option to add! Hopefully on the next redesign!
Love the look if this suv! I've been a truck person all my life and am looking at getting my first car and I'm liking the explorer. It's a huge jump from my '94 F-250

Just bought my family the 2016 Limited..we love it so far, this video was one of the most informative out there. Great job
Are those roush mustangs on the back?
Is their an over ride feature for the folding rear seats? My 2005 expedation slot has the automatic folding seats but they stopped working so now they are stuck up.
And I'm pretty sure the late 2013-Present Escape is available with both the tow package and hands-free lift gate on the same model.
It is available with both
True that
I had the 2013 explorer for two weeks as a rental and came away impressed with the quality feel however the handling was very doll which may or may not be a problem for others it was for me. Reminded me definitely of a Range Rover sport
JP here from Miami Florida I love the new look of the 2016 Ford Explorer now instead of crashing the vehicle after you test it you should raffle the vehicle and that brings more customers to the Ford JP Miami Florida

and another great video, always love the info videos
I've got an escape. Foot activated tailgate still works with the hitch
Does Ford offer extended, or lifetime warranties for the Explorer, and do you discount that offer? Thanks
is the Explorer platinum going to have a shiny silver part like the flex and F-150
Epd468 Yes, that is one of the unique things about the Platinum Ford models. It will have alot of satin chrome all around the vehicle, including on the back. Even the Ford emblem will be changed for the first time ever to the satin chrome!
The first video that showed the 4wd knob positions
Very informative
Really liked your review, alot of information. i was really looking to find out how the drive is, but your review does not have it. Do you think the 2.3L ecoboost pack enough power ? or do i need the 3.5V6 ecoboost? thanks
Hey how do you open the block heater plug, I'm sure it's the part circle in the front bumper with the arrow on it but I can't find a wag to open it
The "sport" version looks amazing when compare to the standard model. With the addition of after market products like a front and rear bar, winch, front skid cover, etc.... it will be awesome! Nice review!!! Seems the front seat pad even shorter than the 2015 version?
A new trim level called Vignale has just been launched in Europe would it be coming to the US?
Excellent video, I have one question;
When, will SYNC 3 be available for Ford Explorer?
I'm waiting for that upgrade to buy my first ever FORD Product.
Thanks Mr. Watts
+Brian Cadieux Most likely in the next model year, 2017.
I can't buy from you cause i live in Québec, but i want to tell you, that you are the most brilliant and interesting guy i have seen giving a description of a car so far, plus i love this suv, and plan to buy one.

The older Ford Explorer looks sooooo old, sitting beside the newer version.
BklynJayL True that!
Hey Mitch you did a super job !
Thanks bud! We appreciate you joining us!
By far the best family vehicle you can buy. Ford owns the SUV segment.
Hey man, I work at a Ford dealer just started in sales. Any tips for me? Still trying to learn as much as I can
Spare tire? Does the panoramic roof decrease interior head room?
I do not know if you know this yet, but they need to have a v6 premium for the 2016 Ford Mustang. With it is touch screen tech, leather seats, performance package
An explorer with Center shift?! Love it, finally!
Did you use a drone for the aerial shots?
When will you guys be getting in the new Edge sport? I'm in Vestavia and would like to check one out.
FastRedPonyCar We had one that came in and it sold immediately. We have another one in the plant right now that should be here within a couple of weeks. It is an ingot silver with the 400A package.
Town and Country TV Do you guys offer a lease?
FastRedPonyCar I would love to too! I wish they would make an Escape Sport or ST, just like the Focus ST/Explorer and Edge Sport!!!
Excellent video. Got my eye set on a 2016 Sport. As others said the front looks like Range Rover Sport.
When is it coming to Australia
This module looks nicer. But some of feature at Limited 15 will be available at platinum.
I wish you would do a side by side comparison like this of the 2015 vs 2016 Ford Edge.
How tall are you?
Very nice review...do you guys have a test drive video ?. Thanks
these innovations by ford are great. i love the camera angles and the auto folding seats, very neat. also kudos to them for keeping physical front console buttons. touch screen buttons for every control is just not needed and is less effective imo.
The strut brace is also on the platinum.
Great video ! Very informative ! I'd love to see a trim level comparison , like y'all did on the f150 .
I saw other videos that mention upgraded (softer leather) material on the dash board and door panels on the Platinum level explorer. Will the 2016 Explorer have heated second row seats as an option?
Clarence Stokes Yes! Standard on the Limited and the Platinum. Not available on the other models.
Ok cool! Can u get heated and cooled seats on the limited as an option?
I have a 2015 escape titanium with tow pkg and foot activated tailgate!!
Mitchell Watts. All things Ford. detailed. professional. Thank you Mitchell
Thank YOU!
Thanks for comparing the years, i like to see the difference. Can you do that with Ford flex?
Any idea when the Platinum will be available?
66skate It will be more towards the Summer of 2015. Just a few months after you start seeing the other models of it. If I were to guess, early July/late June.
***** The Platinum will not have the sport tuned suspension from the Sport edition, but it will have the EcoBoost V6 engine!
Town and Country TV very nice suv it sorta reminds me of the range rover sport in the front. NOT a bad thing at all :)
Can you please do one for the escape?
Great video, very informative! It really blows that the 2016 models won't be able to upgrade to Sync 3.
Excellent review!!!! I should have have got an Explorer.
excellent video. everything covered very well. Thanks!
@24:00 The Explorer couldn't wait anymore.
How much can the 3.5L eco boost on this explorer tow?
Leafs Fan Up to 5,000 lbs with the class 3 trailer tow option.
Just compare 1:14 and 26:28. There is something liquid under the car. Quality or accident?
+streetfame1996 Condensation from the A/C lines because of the vehicle sitting there idling..
Thanks for your comment. That was my shame..
That's great review, well done!
Would love to see your review of a 2016 Ford EDGE sport as well. Thanks!
Review the Ford Taurus 2016 pleaaaaase !!
Wish you guys have a video for the 2017 F-150 Raptor ;)
RENEGADEPINOY671 I wish we did too, that truck is awesome! Unfortunately we haven't gotten to lay our hands on that truck just yet. Stay tuned!
Thank you! I really need a review of the 2017 Raptors because I'm split 50-50 whether to get a Ford or a Toyota Tundra TRD ;)
I wish our dealership in San Diego was this informative. Instead, I had the dumb lady telling me that the XLT doesn't offer cloth seats. Customers should not be more knowledgeable about a sellers product.
Charley Hawkins While I agree they shouldn't of sold to you without telling you first... what's the big deal?
Charley Hawkins You act like they all had diseases and spread them all over or something. Oh, and they all farted on your seat too btw. I have never been to an auto show, but from videos of auto shows that I have seen the only people who might of 'sat' in it are media people. I doubt there were 1k+ media people at the show. As long as you bought it straight out it's okay, if you leased it I would have a big problem with some of the issues your talking about because you could be liable and face a 2k or more turn in fee. I guess I'll close by saying life is short, be happy you are in the position to buy a new car in America today.
I Need a Geek
Over the weekend I test drove and then took home (from Saturday to Monday- 'to see if I liked it') a 2016 sorento. It had 6 miles on it when I left the lot, so I was the first test drive.. it had a scratch on the plastic by the driver's door handle already and a rock chip on the front bumper.
Yep, I had a small dent in the last Explorer I purchased that I did not notice a few months ago. It's life so it happens lol
Coming from someone who hates domestic.. love the front end, the headlights and engine bay area kinda resemble a land rover, very nice!
Its the domestics that employ most of our population. You should stand for something. You couldn't give me foreign car. I prefer my money stays in my country.
Great video, very informative!
Nice range rover inspired front end kind of like the Aston Martin Inspired grill for Fusion. Focus, Fiesta etc.
dennisscipio Yeah. Considering how Ford used to be majority owner of both brands - and still has a small percentage of ownership in Aston Martin (8%, I think). Some similarity in design philosophies aren't surprising.
wonderful video, now I just need to win the lottery, and wait for the platinum model to come out.
Actually I have an escape with a tow package and the kick action tailgate still works
Thanks for sharing some knowledge, that's the way a dealership should be.
I actually test drove the XLT yesterday in Louisiana. It was not as refined as I was hoping, felt sort of clunky (had non eco 6 cylinder). Also there were a lot of open patches not covered up where seats and bars met the frame of the car. I was kind of surprised cause the Sport here looked so nice.
would it be a good gift for teenager in high school?
Uhh yeah!!
no. teens are some of the worst drivers. they get cocky try to show off and have little to no exp at driving. all beginner cars should be crap cars. like mine was a 500 dollar 1991 geo prizim lol. pos it was 0-60 in like 22 sec. but got 42mpg on highway. just before I sold it I was jumping show hills in a parking lot. lol. then I got a 2011 ford Taurus sel.
You did a really good job brother...
nice video quality and format
My 2019 is a jewel but I'm missing a couple key options
Looks great love thr black accents and new headlights
Halogens?
+Totally Winning Pro Gamer Leds. Although I would prefer HID's
Jota Dé Of course.
Isn't it true that some 2016 Explorer models come with LED low beams?
Ryan Snyder Ford says that all models of the 2016 Explorer will come with "Auto LED low-beam, halogen reflector high-beam."
Great video. Why don't u guys do some other video, say, Ford Mustang?
Thank you !! Finally I find a guy jump to 3rd seat after 1 hr of searching videos.
Is your trainer Manny?
oh yeah also will they have projector style headlights?
There's never been a car I think would be perfect for me than the F-150 and Explorer. Especially the current ones.
Wow the sport lettering on back is the same as my 2011 fusion sport, hmm
Great job on this video.
Headlights on all models. HID, halogen, LED etc? Also fog lamps.
