You are SO right about the lack of public washrooms in Canada! It is a huge problem not just in Vancouver but everywhere here. I lived in England for a year and public washrooms are much more available than in Canada. I would love to visit Japan because I am learning about many favourable things there compared to here. Thanks for your video!
My dad is from a town south of Vancouver! He moved east to Edmonton in the 90’s because of the rain😂. Whenever people ask him why he left, he’ll say the rain and the very expensive housing. Your so right about the convenience stores in Vancouver, especially the washrooms! My dad ran a gas station for 15 years, and unfortunately the reason why the washrooms are designed the way they are… is Because of drug users. You might already know this! But Vancouver has the highest rates of drug use in Canada🙁. My dad tells me stories of how he would have to change out the the normal lights for different colours of lights so that heroin users couldn’t find a vein. But other than that Vancouver is a great place! Very beautiful! Great video and I couldn’t help but chuckle at the some of things that I find normal myself, it’s interesting seeing things from a different perspective!
The thing with striking up conversations, you meet the best people that way. I’ll strike up a conversation with anyone to pass the time, or just because. I’m Canadian!
As for the Washroom thing, we get our public washrooms from US companies. They could go with European ones but the cost is astronomical. Easily tripling the coat of one stall. I agree with you, and I grew up with them, but the public washrooms are uncomfortable. I am glad you enjoyed the people of my country, thank you. The rain thing is strange if they were born in Van. The rest of the country gets rain really only for 1 month at most a year. Making only 5 or 6 days, the probability of have rain then when you are out is very low, or rain is very short time.
I live in a city in the lower mainland, which is the area surrounding Vancouver. And honestly, most convenience stores are fairly small. But 7/11's are probably the best. They have a hot box with a bunch of foods like hotdogs, lots of chicken, maybe some breakfast sandwiches, and they ALWAYS have cup noodles. 😂 But if you don't have a 7/11 nearby, it is unfortunate because the rest of them don't have the best selections. The alcohol thing though, in Canada, it's not legal to sell alcohol unless you have a license to do so, so while you may find an odd grocery store that has a booze section, it is rare and you really can only get alcohol at a liquor store. Great video bud, loved the unique insight 😊
I think Vancouver has less public bathrooms because of the incredibly high levels of drug users and homelessness in the city. As a Torontonian I found it hard to find a bathroom there as well. In most Canadian towns/cities if you find a restaurant or bar you can ask to use it and they will 99% let you use one without buying something as long you're polite. Canadians are very open, friendly and laid back with each other. We tend to be very informal and kind, especially to those in need of assistance and get a lot of joy out of connecting with others. We only get confrontational when we see injustices or unkindness. We shut down snarky comments and cruel attitudes so quickly and try to lead by example by demonstrating compassion. Its not enough to just be polite in Canada you have to be emotionally intelligent in todays society. We're also raised to survive all kinds of weather and to be as low maintenance as possible because yeah "we really don't give a shit". We basically don't sweat the small stuff and are pretty easy breezy unless we see someone being mean.
as a canadienne, your friend shoulda know burritos are the superior fast food after drinking lolol, the umbrella thing is ( i can olyy speak for myself on this) is cause i dont like carrying things that arent a purse and also its just water i dont mind it and most of my commute is either on a train or uber i spend a total of 5 minutes in the rain, and if its pouring really bad out and my day off i dont go outside at all btw i love your video and seeing prospective from someone elses view!
you can have descent to higher expectations for everything but quality of Canadian products. Yes, speaking from a Japanese standard then Canada don't really offer similar overall quality of product or infrastructure, nor service convenience, but also everything else is subjective so it's hard to complain about them, imo.

It's Canada, your public washroom is the thickest bush you can find on the side of the road.

you should see the public bathrooms in the US, the doors practically don't close
If it says you can walk walk. If you get hit that's money right there even if it's bump.

You think Vancouver is wet, you should try the west coast of Vancouver island.
That's interesting in Vancouver unfortunately in my city in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada (Centre of Canada) there's less population of Japanese..
