Hi, this is a great video, really well put together and I had no idea these even existed, the quality of these bulbs looks to be incredible compared to ones you used to be able to get. You say the regs updated but I've read through them all and it still says that it's not allowed to retrofit LED headlights into halogen headlight units. I know it's unlikely to be picked up during an MOT but what do you think about this? Thanks

It's about as clear as mud on the MOT website, however I think as long as the tester uses his common sense and can see the ones installed have a good pattern and aren't blinding they should pass. 😊

@@CarFlix. I am not trying to disagree with you, I'm actually really interested in fitting LED headlights and may end up doing so regardless of the rules but the latest update of the DVSA MOT inspection manual states:
"Existing halogen headlamp units on vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp for light source and lamp not compatible."

This guidance has been withdrawn because it is out of date. You can find the latest up to date information in the MOT inspection manual: cars and passenger vehicles and MOT inspection manual: motorcycles.
A ‘light source’ means any bulb, LED or other means of emitting light.
It looks like you're all good to go 😀
PS The main purpose of this video is to show that most LED bulbs are directional and in a halogen light housing will fail an MOT test on alignment issues. These bulbs are more likely to pass due to the mini projectors and a cut off line. I hope this makes sense 😊

@@CarFlix. You explained that part very well actually and I agree that LED bulbs with mini projectors such as the ones shown in your video produce a beam pattern that actually looks identical if not better than a halogen's. Anyway thanks for replying and looking into this.

As much as I would love a legal option, these are not,. The MOT regulations very specifically say that any kind of HID or LED retrofit in a halogen housing is a fail, regardless of pattern or how the bulb works. Even retrofitting an entire projector assembly or putting an LED in an existing halogen projector housing is not legal. The only way to legally retrofit LED or HID is to swap the entire sealed headlamp unit for one designed for HID/LED (Which may or may not exist for your car). And even then it's a grey area as strictly any LED or HID installation should have headlight washers and auto-levelling. (MOT Manual section 4.1.4)
Not trying to stop anyone using these, I personally think a well designed LED is a great upgrade. But be aware that these are not road legal. Whether you fail an MOT with these depends on the MOT tester (These specific bulbs would probably fail as they are being used in a reflector housing which makes the swap very obvious, LEDs in Halogen projectors are probably less likely to be picked up.) I doubt police would care on their own but it's just another thing they can nail you for if you get stopped for something else.
