If I were to be starting today, I’d definitely go with the 28-75 and upcoming 70-180 because of cost vs performance. Having said that, I’m so so so so happy with the S-Line 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8. These 2 lenses are by far going to outlast my current camera bodies, so I don’t mind investing more on things I’m going to use almost daily for at least a decade.
You should've used the compare tool in Lightroom! Its easier than going back and forth and you really can pick out the differences. But honestly, I don't personally notice a HUGE difference besides the 24-70 2.8 being a bit sharper and less distortion and vignetting. The 28-75 is a good option for those who need 2.8, but not 24mm and don't mind the trade off's for the price.
Hey Z,, Thanks for this opportunity to see the two lenses side by side... In my experience as a freelance photog. Most Clients are not able to see the minute differences that you displayed, and for even the most discerning clients would not be against the IQ on either (unless the photog would speak disparagingly about it)(one good reason to use no third party lenses no mater which mfg of camera you use) ... The only thing that we can nit pick on the 28-75 is the fact that the 24mm focal length is very much wider than the 28mm and I would like to have the ability to decide between the two 24mm n 28mm without having to change lenses... In my opinion even the 24-70 f4 Nikkor will give pleasing out of focus if you would be close to the subject and far from the backround (pro advantage) The Nikkor Z 24-120 f4 is being used professionally by many photogs and the extra reach makes for even better Portrait focal lengths available,, One f stop makes so little difference with the ability to use the higher iso in the newer cameras :) :) :)
Watching this video after purchasing my first mirrrorless. My budget doesnt allow buying z 24-70 so i was weondering if the 28-75 sucked. It does not, but im keeping my olf nikkor F24-70 along a ftz adapter which i can use with my old d750. Great videoo
When using Lightroom in videos like this, it would be super beneficial for us the viewers if you had the info overlay on. In this case it would be awesome to see the lens as well as photo settings. I know you were announcing it out loud but as a visual person I’m finding it hard to keep on top of it as you’re moving around so quick. Just an observation!
Unfortunately the vast majority of viewers don’t want to see any real work. They want pixel peeping nothing photos and gear focused content. Hence why I haven’t been posting lately. I’ve been shooting things I care about most of which wouldn’t be allowed on UA-cam anyway. Cheers
Hello, I want to buy Nikon Z8 & I want Lense that will cover me in any situation. In this couple of months Nikkon got new lenses, 2 of them are so fresh that one is not even on sale because it's not in stock. But there is many to choose. I want to buy lense that will stick with Me and My Z8 for years & cover me at weddings, parties, picture & record wild life (macro, Zooming), sport fast situations, city, concerts, low light situations, alot of light, full daylight sunny days situations. What will be the very best for that? Also, what kind of program for editing will cover all editing for photos & videos from it? Thanks for anserws :)
Unfortunately my friend, you’re wishes are just not possible, for the lens or editing software. You can cover the majority of your wants with the 24-70 f/2.8 or the 28-75 in this video. But you’ll need something else to pull off wildlife easily. At the moment the new 180-600 is the best value for sports and wildlife. For editing, I recommend Lightroom Classic and for Video Davinci has a free version that will most of what you would need. Without knowing your lens budget, I’m not sure the best recommendation but I hope I was able to help
@@ZWadePhotoyes, you did thank you!!! :) This 24 - 70 2.8 S will be good with low light & full sunny days? Thanks for recommendation of this 2 programs. What do you think of editing programs from Nikkon? There are some that can cover editing pictures & videos? I will buy 2 lenses then :)
I don’t have a good way to do that my friend sorry. I’ve gotten away from over analyzing lens output anyway. The 24-70 is better but not by $1000. That’s my new way of thinking
at 5:26 you somehow completely missed the fact that you focused on the dogs nose and not on its eye. the nose was sharp and the eye was already going out of focus. weird thing to miss..
Id love to see how the Tamron 24-70 f 2.8 stacks up against the Nikkor z 24-70. It can be picked up at a cost similar to the Nikkor 28-75 and i already have an ftz adaptor. 🤫
I’ve shot all three and the Nikkor Z is REALLY hard to beat, with a prime it zoom from any make. It’s that good. But for cost, the individual can weigh the output :) thanks for commenting!
Although a good lens - I found the 28-75mm not as useable wide open as the other Z Nikkors. I prefer the other two 24-70mm Nikkor Z lenses. For value I would recommend the 24-70mm f4 Z lens. Tamron has a newer version of this lens they made for Nikon - I wonder why they chose the Mk1 version...
Not so much is it worth the extra more for me was it worth saving £1400 and the simple answer is yes. I think if you’re a working pro then possibly but if not save the money and put it towards more glass.
While I appreciate the time you put into this, I would like to share my thoughts: This is not a very useful comparison imho. Some pics with the 28-70 clearly missed focus. The snout of the dog is sharp the eye not - so you can not compare the Shot where focus on the eye was nailed with 24-70 and look at the same part with 28-70. Further: the shot of the blossom. The issue I see here for a side by side comparison is the different angles. The blossom moved, you moved. I would not be able to make out a difference. It’s completely different photos, contrast appears different, some of the pointy things of the blossom stand out in different angles. If anything I feel like the 28-70 missed more focus, after this comparison. BUT again, these shots were handheld, might be that focus was correct but you moved slightly or your cute doggo, of the tree. You might call this „real world test without tripod“ but it is prone to mistakes. A more stable setup, recreatable scenes should work better and diminish at least some „mistakes“ and could still be used as „real world“ testing without shooting test charts. Also changing light, even slightly can create different microcontrast, that can influence the perception of „sharpness“. I mean that’s how many do it and I think there are valid reasons for doing it this way. Just my thoughts, no hard feelings, still interesting to to watch, cheers
I appreciate your viewership. I don’t find your points particularly noteworthy. I had to rewatch to find the points you were referring to and my overall theme in this video is they are very very similar. Regardless of what you gather through the phone, my findings are minimal at best between these two lenses.
One could argue you are not even focused on the video. all the time you are mistaken for 28-75 lens. its 28-75. He already said he doesnt have two camera side by side plus we have very less video about this in internet and Nikon users who are moving to Mirrorless; this video helps a lot. doesnt matter how is it, but you see someone using it in normal world scenareo rather than a studio vlogger. This video is the real deal!
Not a lens I had any interest in even as a bit of a glass collector. Your review confirms it. The 24-70mm f/2.8 will stay in my bag until Nikon releases a MK II. Thanks for the video...looking forward to see what you like even less next week.
Oh believe me. Next week is my first true disappointment. I like most of the Z lenses. This one is just ok. next week though...oh boy. See you there. lol.
BTW, have you tried them both out on fast-moving things in low light? I'm a dance photographer and need to nail focus quickly - can the 28-75 handle it?

I see more differences, but It's definitely a good option for a kit lens i think.
yeah the compare tool would have been great. i could not keep track of what lens was where :|

I don’t like this lens much. They probably did the old Mk to save money. Idk
ps did you experience a difference in autofocus performance and speed?
28-75 is plenty fast to get the job done. I don’t remember at this point. If one was vastly different, I would have remembered and pointed it out.
I do not see a 1000 dollar difference in quality based on this video.
Best thing to do is rent both and see what you came see. Thanks for watching

TEST FOCUS ON LOW DARK! YOU WILL SURPRISE HOW BAD IS THE 28-75. i dont have a 24-70, thats why im looking for some info.
This was just a rental so I can’t test it any further unfortunately.
