I've been shooting photography most of my adult life. It started with an on sale Nikon D3200 that wasn't even interested in using, all the way through being a photography business owner, teacher, and UA-cam Photography Content Creator.
My favorite subjects are Human Portraits and Shallow Depth of Field with my specialty, or claim to fame if you will, being Dramatic Nude and Bodyscape. Over my many years of photography I've mastered many genres but I never stop learning and I don't want you to stop either. That's why I started my UA-cam Channel in the year 2020. After a hiatus from photography, I picked up my camera again just in time for the Covid Pandemic. The world shut down. With more time than ever and no humans to photograph I found myself bored but motivated. ZWade Photo, the UA-cam Channel, was born.
I have always been a Nikon brand photographer, but in my community on UA-cam there is limitless room for Canon, Sony, Fuji, Leica, Hasselblad, Nikon, AND any other brand, photographers. Follow along as this channel one day grows into the biggest, most honest, and most fun photography community on the internet.
I'm ZWade the ZWade in ZWade Photo, Stay Sharp UA-cam.

@9:31, The flickering observed on the Z6 III's video is not the typical random variation of noise, what you accurately termed "grain dance". The Z6 III's flicker is actually the result of random variations of the overall brightness of each frame, which based on my technical analysis is caused by subtle black-level differences between frames. This can be observed on Resolve's scopes well before it becomes perceptible in the image noise, which further demonstrates it's not a function of noise. It becomes noticeable starting at +2EV in N-Log, and not because the noise itself is increased but because the overall luminance is increased with the noise, and that increase reveals the variation in brightness that's present in all frames. I demonstrated this in my Z6 III vs Z8 N-RAW comparison video - even at Z8's extreme worst in noise (+5EV N-Log exposure adjustment), the Z8 does not exhibit the flicker inherent to the Z6 III at equal or lower noise levels.

Flickering in video has been present since the z6 mkI, when you shoot in raw or nlog via atomos... I think Nikon has a process on the z6 range (not stacked sensor?) that gives flickering when you don't shoot at the base iso in nlog (whether in mp4 or raw). Nlog is a log that seems to manage highlights better than shadows, so it's better to overexpose a little

Every image sensor on the market has unique performance characteristics. One of those characteristics is dynamic range. This can be measured by evaluating shadow noise alone, since most modern sensors have similar relative saturation levels, which means dynamic range is distinguished by how many stops below 18% gray each sensor can distinguish detail distinct from noise. Whether or not a particular sensor's dynamic range performance is material to a purchase decision is naturally for each prospective buyer to decide for themselves. But the solution to sensors having different dynamic range performance isn't to avoid measuring it or presenting those measurements, or to presume a given sensor's range is sufficient for everyone. Of course the solution also isn't the other extreme - presenting every difference in measurement as catastrophic. In my view, the best solution is to objectively present the measurement, give it appropriate context so that everyone understands its relative significance, and then step back and let each viewer decide for themselves.

The flickering seems to be a caused by a swapping back and forth between red and green as the predominant hue in the grain. Since Red and Green have different luminance values, it appears as unstable brightness, or flickering. However it’s an issue that’s copy dependent, some with multiple copies see one of their Z6IIIs has it worse or better than others. Look up Robert May and testcams if you’re interested in more… but I imagine it’s not super important for what you do.

Does nobody notice that something is wrong? One group has poor results, so they return the camera. The other group says, yes, there are a few minor problems, but that's not relevant in practice. I have also tested the camera and I have seen clear noise. So clearly that I did not accept it. This cannot be explained by the fact that one group thinks the others are idiots who have no idea. I think there is a problem that only some of the cameras have, possibly in conjunction with selected lenses, e.g. 14-30. Maybe a series dispersion, different production lines, different supplier parts, different firmware... There must be something that makes the cameras different.

There's a lot of fuss over nothing. Cameras have advanced so much that people must scrutinize intensely to find any flaws. Additionally, I believe UA-camrs are stirring up their followers regarding the Z6III and its dynamic range. It's mostly just a trend people are jumping on. For the camera to fail, one would really have to mess up the exposure badly.

I really don't ‘see’ a problem? My concerns would be with some of the minor issues I’ve heard, regarding the camera locking up, and the noisy operation, and strap lug interfering with card door, etc? Nikon makes cameras, and they should be practically perfect, and rock solid, no excuses. But it would seem that people are going to pick the camera apart, and “look” for issues, even if they aren’t there? Good stuff here. Metering has come a long way. I started with a handheld incident/reflective light meter. Then the cameras had built-in averaging meters (and some had spot meters for the experts). Then Center-weighted. Matrix-metering is quite good. As far as the dynamic range ... one has to ask, "Who is the Z6iii for?" Certainly, it is for Urban photographers who shoot when there is a lot of atmospheric haze, landscape photographers who shoot when there is a lot of fog, wedding photographers who shoot their outdoor scenes in the rain, and studio photographers who shoot through mesh.
