Goldsmith is rocking steel drums, roland electric piano, synth, electric guitar. That whole groove at 2:47 is so emblematic of that era in music. So sexy and cool. Just two years before this the master was serving up modern interpretations of Bartok, Stravinsky and Webern in the original 1968 film. Goldsmith offers the most tremendous range of any modern film composer.
So early-1970's! As a 7-year-old boy, this was the movie (and theme) that introduced me to the POTA movies. I was a hooked, rabid fan for the next five years... until I started looking at girls differently.
Well said and 100% correct. JG's versatility was unmatched and he never received the accolades that many lesser talented composers did. He is much missed.
Seventh Mist Oh my gosh, say it again. I started collecting & listening to his music beginning with Planet of the Apes in the early 70s. Every score was a treat. I always believed he was the best!!
@@thomasdouglas2006 Maybe not ten but at least 4. He was robbed so many times it’s criminal. The Picture above captures the shock and disbelief the Military felt when instead of Astronaut Taylor and Crew opening those dark shaded helmets...Out come talking Apes! A Cinema Classic Moment as good as the Ending to the Original Movie.
I think they missed an opportunity by failing to include in their dialogue, (Roddy McDowell speaking): "Eh, I believe Colonels Ham, Enos, and Minnie are expecting us! Could you relay our greetings to them?" (Those are the names of the Mercury astro-chimps who were flown into space before Alan Shepard's flight.)
They didn't open those helmets, they removed them, and they didn't start talking until much further into the movie. And as awesome as it was, it was nowhere near as dramatic as what is considered the most surprising ending ever in movie history. We all knew there were apes in those suits when we were watching this movie; we did not know that the whole first story took place on earth in the future when watching the original.

Only in those days they could make a masterpiece franchise like this without turning it into a comedy. Blessed Pierre Boulle, blessed Arthur P. Jacobs and, of course blessed Jerry Goldsmith! [Damn you Tim Burton and your ex-wife!]
Franchise? The only really great movie was the first. Already the second started with logical faults and declining qualify and every movie that followed was worse than the one before, though 4 was better than 3.
@@arktomorphos, to the contrary, all except for Battle were good to very good, and all legitimately expanded the storyline of the first one. Terrell L. Howard Agreed! I’m sure we could point out dozens of examples! Just listened to Outland... And Alien... And Logan’s Run... And Coma... And Poltergeist... Etc., etc.
All funked up -- but just to keep it real and remind everyone of the predestination paradox - the sound of the sea. Maybe it's just because of the Apenauts splashing down. Or maybe it's because of how the first film ends... Brilliance.
The way Goldsmith gave us a "contemporary" theme and still peppered it with references to the original "Apes" is beyond brilliant. This piece alone deserved an award. A pity APJAC went cheap and allowed mediocrities Rosenman and Scott to taint the series.
I don't think Rosenmann and Scott "tainted" the series; their scores were quite good, even though they couldn't match Goldsmith. Rosenmann's Beneath score was so original that he borrowed heavily from it for his Lord of the Rings score.
The so called "Fillers" of the "Convoy" movie are brilliant as well and it´s a shame it´s not released somehow.I just put this here just in case someone knows what I´m talking about....
@studdman669 Herrmann was Goldsmith's idol. He told Goldsmith once, "Your music is too good for this movie." The reason that Williams and Goldsmith are so frequently mentioned is that they both rode the wave of the big Hollywood pictures during the late 1960's/70's and '80's.
@dinotduda That's exactly what I thought too!!!!!! :D I will sample it for myself and make a beat. SO FUNKY. I love the little effects in the background and the sitar :)
Love the Apes films. I can never scan the dial and not stop if one of these movies is on. Im hearing rumor of a new movie. Rise Of The Apes. I hope its done right.....PEACE

@Tshaf37redux I believe that you are right, they are kind of telling the story of Conquest of The Planet of the Apes without the time traveling parts in my opinion. And that is just an awesome idea.
Since audiences would have by this stage in the series gotten used to Goldsmith's and Rosenman's avant garde music, it's just as disorientating to have the series music suddenly go the other way and be contemporary.
answer me something why do excellent movies that have been out of cinemas a very long time then posted for free get taken down and put back up with a price tag who does it

Great soundtrack. The bass line is incredible, the timing is hard to follow, and the sound really matches the apes theme.
Sounds like 4/4 followed by 5/8, for the intro part.
This music (and the movies opening sequence) ... just sublime.
Alan Fowle totally agree
Goldsmith once again shows why he was the greatest.
My all-time fave Goldsmith theme, so primal -- so funky.
"Primal Funky" is a great genre label. I love it.

To think that this man only ever got one Oscar. He deserved at least 10 more.
At least!
Goldsmith was a Mozart in the 20/21. century. I read it in the Rolling Stone magazine

Kim Hunter was simply amazing in this one!
Yes. She was. I thought Sal Mineo did a terrific job as Milo too.
Hi Dannyboy. This is Charlie Kickham in Hallandale Beach Florida. Yeah. I heard that too. Too bad. I liked Dr. Milo. He was cool, Lol!!!!
Grape juice plus.
Blinding soundtrack for the Third Apes Trilogy ,51 years later ,Just a great Theme to the Ending ❤️Thanks Jerry Goldsmith ❤️
For the age this is, it's actually awesome music!
It's that 1970's Jerry Goldsmith funk and is always AWESOME. The complete score released by Varese Sarabande Records is amazing.

Great score by the master Jerry goldsmith is simpy the best ...it was shame that wasn't asked to do all five original movies..

Don't forget Bernard Hermann! He scored many movies for Alfred Hitchcock. And scored the movie 'Citizen Kane'.
