As if proof were needed that this is a stunning score.....................
this is an album you can put on and listen to from begining to end, then all you want to do, is do it all again. Bravo Maestro Goldsmith.

Damn, what an incredibly underrated and almost forgotten score by Jerry Goldsmith. One of his best. I have to give credit to Quentin Tarentino for bringing this score back into the consciousness of film/musical lovers, when he used the "Nicaragua" cue for "Django Unchained". Fantastic track. However, IMHO, Goldsmith's "Bajo Fuego" (with Pat Methany on classical/Spanish guitar) is the real stand-out, in this score. It starts at time-stamp 02:05.

Nicaragua theme from 0:38 might be the most beautiful and atmospheric theme of all time. It's filled with emotions to the brim.

Goldsmith doesn't score the first 35 minutes (apart from a low key motif for the scene in Chad and a brief cue during the 'rebels' attempted abduction in the bar). It's a real shame that Goldsmith didn't get to score more films like this in the period 1975 to 1985. There are alternate cues on the LP/CD, including what I'm assuming is Goldsmith's preferred take on Price's photograph session with Raphael. Since I was too young in 1983 to see the film in the cinema (and monthly film magazines were the only source of info about soundtrack's) I missed a chance to buy the LP since I had no idea what the music was like until I saw the film on VHS in 1985 (and taped it on cassette from the TV speaker). I do think this score should have won the Oscar. Tom Conti's 'The Right Stuff' is a very good score, but 'Under Fire' is something really special.
