Hi there Mon from Downunder, id like to give some context about DPR IAN....born Christian Yu, in Sydney Australia, he is an Australian singer, rapper, and director based in Los Angeles. He is a former member of Yedang Entertainment boy group C-Clown, which was active between 2012 and 2015. Yu made his solo debut under his co-founded label Dream Perfect Regime (DPR) with the digital single "So Beautiful" .Yu is behind the visual arts for the DPR, In 2021, DPR Ian and Live released the track "Diamonds + and Pearls" as part of the soundtrack to the Marvel Film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This marked the duo-along with fellow artists on the album-becoming two of the first Korean artists to participate in a Marvel soundtrack album. DPR Ian was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was a teenager, then later in his twenties with dissociative identity disorder (DID). He later created an alter ego, Mito, to reflect the low episodes of his mental disorder. In an interview with Billboard, he said that "I wanted to portray a character dealing with various mental disorders which may be deemed negative or dark in a realistic sense but at the same time can also be seen as superpowers in a different light". He talks about a personified version of his high manic episodes named 'Mr. Insanity' with his newest album, Dear Insanity, saying, "I thought it had to be about someone that represents my utmost manic highs, but all in all I've always thought Mr. Insanity to be more of a scary character. You're not sure what he's capable of. ....I hope this sheds some light on why is clips are so delightfully insane....
Overall The concept of this MV is Mito trying to infest this Ian (in DID terminology he’s trying to “front”). Ian gets kidnapped without knowing who kidnapped him and gets brought to a house. There’s voices that are trying to help him because they are aware that something is coming, that something being Mito. The voices could be auditory hallucinations from mania induced psychosis due to his bipolar disorder or could be internal comunication between the alters, it's not clear. At the same time Ian is trying to numb these voices with medication for bipolar disorder. Mr Insanity was the one who placed the medication there to keep him in check. After the stabbing, Mito succeeds and the switch happens (represented by Ribbon), Ian turns into Mito. However, Ian comes back later. This is basically how DID works, the switch between alters being a constant with one or more alters taking turns on the throne that controls the mind ("fronting"). It seems like previous comment isn't here anymore - but just in a nutshell: I agree with Squirrel's comment and just to add monochrome scenes can represent bipolar lows and Mito switches with Ian during those times. There are certain medication called SSRI antidepressants that may make a bipolar episode worse by causing manic or hypomanic episodes (as we can see from the room being oddly colourful during Mood).
