They probably wrote about candles and matches and oil lamps, therefore who ever translated Confucius made a sloppy work out of it. The lights (light bulbs) were discovered by Thomas Edison (among others) around 1879 AD. Confucius died in 479 BC -- there is a distance of 2,358 years between these two events... Hardly something that we can ignore. I don't think to translate "Anyone can find the matches after the candle is lit" from Chinese is that difficult, I just did it... Taking things so badly out of context makes everybody think it is just a joke!
