Especially like Tip #5: prepping models ahead of time. Often happens that when I'm in the mood to paint, I don't have the models assembled, primed and ready, and that's off-putting either because of cleaning mould lines, or the weather/night-time isn't right for spraying, etc.
    Great tips! Thanks Peter

Just to confirm the usefulness of these tips - this video was originally posted as a Patreon exclusive back in August 2019, and almost all the miniatures I had on my backlog back then are now painted! Of course, many others have since arrived to take their place ... 😃

I tried to do do that list thing for a long while. Couldn't stick to the list. At all. So I caved in, embraced the chaos, added number ranges in front of all items and now it's a random roll table. (I still like to roll "00 - DM's choice" best...). But your 10 tips are of course really solid advice! Thanks!

Being an old school role-player from way back, I like that idea too!

I keep a painting log but hadn't thought of making a main list to cross things off of. I think I will incorporate this into my log to motivate me to cross more things off!

The tip on sticking with a color through the batch is a tip I hear a lot from people who paint horde armies. If you just pick like 3 or 4 colors and just paint something different on each guy with that color they fit together but still a chaotic horde.

Yep! It's crazy how much time you can spend opening and closing different pots of paint otherwise.

Your painting tips and videos and TableTop Minions' tip to just not paint eyes are the most useful tips I've gotten for painting through the masses of minis I have for my board games. Thanks!

Wonderful news - great to hear it.

NEVER paint the eyes! I've found that Citadel Contrast flesh tones actually define and highlight most eyes just fine - faaaar better than they would if I tried actually painting them. Flesh washes ought to do the same, I guess?

Great stuff! Now I just need a top ten tips on how a beginner should not worry about messing up, plus tips on choosing colours, and I'm good to go. Procrastination is not something I need tips for though 😊

Tips 1-10: don't worry about messing up and just do it! I don't know what else I can offer on those subjects. :) But as for choosing colours, I just follow the available reference material, whether that be a picture of the fully painted mini, or an illustration. Pick a colour that looks the same and go for it!

I created a list on BGG. I just add the games in the 'my collection section' and then in the comments column I add a comment stating 'painted'. I can then see what Ive painted in my board game collection with the bonus of seeing images, forums and comments on the games on BGG 👍

I like the tips for keeping lists. I'm a list person and have found that they have made me more productive as well. 2019 was the first year I kept a list, and I've since divided my list to include priorities, completed projects like a boardgame or a group of minis, and then a list and count of all the figures I've done for the year. I find that last list to be the most motivating, especially when I'm close to triple digits. Cheers Peter!

2:46 Relic was one of the first games I painted a complete set of figures for! Those busts truly were incredible to paint!!!

Thanks for the tips! It's always daunting to look at your miniatures collection and try to figure out where to start. It can be a bit overwhelming if you don't have a plan of attack. When I paint, I tend to look at what I'm playing next or what I'm playing with (such as D&D minis). But, truth be told, I haven't painted in quite some time. I've been getting an itch to do it, but haven't made the time to do so. Good luck with getting your backlog up to snuff! And, I may be crazy here, but for some reason, if I ever finished painting all my miniatures, I wouldn't know what to do with myself... :)

Making the list is a great idea. I've finally almost finished painting all of Imperial Assault and I might make a list just so I can cross it off.

Acrylic markers sped up my painting 🎨

No mention of airbrush? That’s probably the biggest thing that sped up my painting!

I've got an airbrush, but the setup, noise, and cleanup is just too much to deal with.

Do you organise gameplay in the same way?

Well I've made 385 rules summaries at last count, if that's what you mean.

@@EsotericOrderGamers not so much your summaries, though helpful...
When you're not in the mood to paint but want to get games on the table - you have so many to choose from - do you have a list of criteria before unleashing a game onto the table? Do you agonise over it? Are you overwhelmed to the point where you end up painting because there's too many games?...

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 роки тому

@@dirkd6908 Right, now I see what you mean. Well, not really, I usually end up playing what's new, but there are old favourites I go back to, or I might bring out a game that hasn't been played for a while. I do have all my games databased so I can select one by criteria if necessary. I don't agonise about these things, it is supposed to be my fun hobby. I agonise more over constantly creating content for the EO, as I have for almost 10 years!
