  • I'M BACK!! and cannot believe that I found ANOTHER dumpster full of someone's entire life. This time the trash bags were overflowing with vintage Avon products, perfumes, jewelry, and silk nightgowns. I am so disappointed that the trash truck got there before I could grab more - I can only image how much I had to leave behind :'(

A lot of dumps/landfills in New Zealand actually go through a lot of the discarded things and find the treasures that are worth keeping. They then have a shop there where you can buy the unwanted but perfectly good items, cheap and cheerful.
For example, furniture, appliances, bicycles, doors and windows etc.
I admire what you are doing.
Keep up your fantastic recycling and regifting 👏🏼👍💕🇳🇿 love from New Zealand xo

Actually that MAY not be accurate....i also found this info :
NOTE: The initials on some Avon pieces (NR, BW, SP, SH, WN etc.) are NOT designer initials as many have attributed online. This quote directly from Avon: "The initials on some of our jewelry pieces are an internal company code for our jewelry in manufacturing.
NR stamped on the back of jewelry means it is a Vintage Avon piece by Nina Ricci.
The NR on Avon jewelry has absolutely nothing to do with Nina Ricci. NR is an internal Avon code representing the factory where it was made.
Because there were so many avon pieces, quite possible it too is an avon piece. Gorgeous still. I'd find out for sure whether or not ot is worth anything.

@@ryanrobinson5580 Extremely untrue. Some Avon jewelry is extremely sought after and demands very high prices on auction sites. The Elizabeth Taylor Egyptian Collection is one and the 1st Series designed by Carnegie is another, most of the Kenneth Lane pieces range from $150-375. Other designers more or less depending on the collection. Disney is highly prized, of course, etc. One more thing, let me get this straight, you're belief is people that live in apartments don't have items of value? Pls don't become a stockbroker, you will go broke. Or basically, any position where you interact with the public or deal with money or items of value.

Maybe married with children and grandchildren. Husband passes, she's moved to an apartment. Then she passes away. Her family, if she has any, comes to take her things and dumps what they don't want. Maybe she passes away and the complex clears out her stuff and throws it away. Maybe something else entirely. You can and will never know someone, the life they lived or what they owned based on where they live, fact! 💕

Easy way for jewelry to find out if it is real or not, use a decent size magnet on them, if the jewelry does not stick to it, it could be real. Like on that tennis bracelet. It did not have a heavy duty clasp on it, the real diamonds would have a hinge clasp that clicks over a post to make it secure. The "really pretty ring" could be silver because of the tarnish. But you did a wonderful job saving stuff from the land fill way to go!! Also there are a couple of short YT videos that help you identify gold and silver too. Just to give you a better foundation on what you are being blessed to find! Thank you for sharing you adventures!!!! again Happy Birthday

Oh I wish you had more time. ❤ That could have been the twin of the giant dumpster that was hauled in to clear my grandma's big house. All of us grandkids tried to save as much as we could and we ran out of time granted by the estate executors. So much Avon, jewelry, photos, vintage collectibles, clothing, recipes, general household stuff. Just gone. I get that we can't save everything, but ohhh, I felt your sadness through to my core... I have felt exactly that myself. 😭 Thank you for inviting us along. I hope the treasures made your birthday fantastic!

This is why I have gotten rid of so much “stuff”. You can’t take it with you when you “go”. Don’t want my loved ones to have to deal with all my crap when I’m gone. I’ve come to realize my legacy is my children...not stuff.

    • @barbarab8479
      @barbarab8479 4 роки тому +2

Kimberley S, I have been sorting through stuff from my childhood home for 7 years. My mother lived in the house for 62 years, and she was quite a “pack rat”. Most family members do not have the time to deal with a house full of stuff like I have. At least I do not need to sell the house, which I now own. I donated a lot of good usable items I did not want to a shelter for women and children displaced because of domestic violence. The shelter maintains an area where the residents can “shop” for things they currently need or select things to help them setup housekeeping in permanent housing once they leave the shelter. I have only thrown away stuff that is truly garbage. Big items not easily hauled away have been put at the curb for trash pickup, but almost 100% has been taken by “scavengers” who sell it at an outdoor flea market or sometimes as scrap metal. I do not want to leave things when I pass away that will be a monumental problem for my family. Older people need to think about parting with things they no longer use to minimize the inconvenience for the person(s) who have to deal with their belongings once they are gone from this earth.

You are so cute! I would love to go trashing with you. Makes me miss doing it. But I was living on the streets then and mainly looking for recyclables. I found some really cool stuff including 4 vintage ,(from the early '50's) authentic fur jackets and stoles. Unfortunately, I had them in a shopping cart, well hidden, and I had to park them in an alley. The City took all my stuff. I had nowhere to put them! I went to take a shower and poof, all gone. So imagine the stuff you saw the garbage truck take was your stuff, memorabilia, treasures, heirlooms. Talk about pain!
But still, love your enthusiasm and get a kick out of your naivete. I'll be watching your videos.

Sometimes the close family of a deceased person lives out of state, they simply don't have much time deal with the contents of a loved one's home or apartment. Especially if they have to sell the house or co-op/condo. A residence going up for sale must be cleared out and staged. Usually, any unnecessary items are dumped. Of course, the family will look for any stashed money! I heard a story where an elderly many put 100 dollar bills in his hardcover books, when he died, the books ended up in the garbage. People who took some of the books from the trash were extremely surprised!
As for clothing in the trash, watch out for bedbugs, the same goes for upholstered furniture, pass it by! The cost of getting rid of bedbugs far outweighs any money you'd make re-selling any dumpster finds.

I have no idea if you’ll see this after all these years, but that trash truck coming made my heart cry as well. It really was that woman’s whole entire life. Just thrown out, literally in the garbage. I could “see” her. All the unopened or unused gifts that were given to her because no one knows what to get an older woman for holidays. The jewelry that meant something to her. I could see her organizing all the pieces into the little boxes, keeping them separated. She probably was an Avon seller in the 80’s. That’s why she had so many things from them. Her lingerie and nightgowns. The softness she chose. It makes me cry. I went to an estate sale once. I was so excited to get there early. Every single thing in the house was for sale. Everything. I started getting uncomfortable because it wasn’t right. Outside on the lawn were precious hand sewn little girls dresses from the 60’s. Hand stitched! Two men were there running the sale. An older man around 70 ish and a younger around 40ish. I asked the younger man about the sale and he told me his mother had been killed in a car accident. His father couldn’t bear to go back into the house and wanted everything sold. He was so broken-hearted. It was horrible. I bought the little dresses and told him I’d always remember his mom making them. But throwing someone’s life out in garbage bags is tragic. Thank you for rescuing what you could💔🌷

Do not feel sad. We are born with nothing, and we leave this earth with nothing. All that counts is the in between. It is sad there were no family to treasure her treasures. I have no children, only my sister and her children. So I expect most everything to go into the trash. They are just things. My memories, no one else. Just material things. Thank you for giving all these items a second life. I grew up when we passed clothes down till they were rags or fit no one. Then used the rags for rugs or cleaning. My Mom grew up during the depression, Dad too, and had a tendency to hang on to things. I had to laugh when she died, how many jars I threw away. Anyway, just enjoy what you find, be thankful the person had nice things to enhance their life. Love watching your vlog. You share what your plan is, and so much of it is to make other people's life easier. Other sites are just for the money. Blessings to you, and may you stay strong and healthy, and especially safe.

It’s an free selling app! It’s like poshmark and mercari except the stuff that gets really popular on there is vintage, Y2K, handmade, eclectic, etc. stuff. They take 10% of your sale and you can choose to either ship on your own or ship with them. It’s honestly the best place to sell things that are quirky and thrifted finds since that’s what the majority of buyers on there are looking for!
Here’s my shameless plug lol but feel free to follow me on there if you make an account so I can follow you back! @stephiegar

You got a good haul! The nail polishes and perfumes go bad after time but the perfume bottles are collectible.. The nightgowns could go to a thrift store or women"s shelter. I used to do dumpster diving in Milwaukee, found alot of good stuff and kept very little, I gave most of it to people I knew that had little to nothing-so it helped them out alot. Be careful not to become a hoarder, it's easy to do, so many goodies. It's sad when the family just throws so much out. But I know from my Mom passing 3 yrs ago that it gets really overwhelming to clean out an apartment or house. Emotions are raw and you get tired and likely have limited time, if you don't live in that city -you don't always know where to take all of it . I used to clean things up and give them away. Glad to see that you wear gloves and have a step stool. And yes, as Debby Mize stated,, USE YOUR THINGS and enjoy them, don't wait for later. I have cleaned out and emptied both my husbands and my parents homes, it gets overwhelming very fast and it's sad.

Happy Birthday! I wish you many, many more!
Wow! You have over twelve hundred comments! I hope that mine doesn't already tell you what you've already heard or know. You can get these lint rollers to remove the pet hair on the Mini Mouse toys that may save you from having to wash them. Essentially they are perforated sticky tape on a stick that you roll over whatever has pet hair or lint on it. Then you tear off the tape revealing a fresh piece underneath. You probably already know about them but I thought just in case you didn't I would tell you...

Disney stuffed animals can be tossed into the dryer on cool, fluff with a few damp washcloths which will remove the pet hair. Glad you salvaged so much; don't be sad that you couldn't get more; you had no more room in your car :-).

Maybe Grandmother had a lot of things and these are the ones no one wanted. Let's be happy instead of sad. It seems as though the lady who's belongings were found had nice things, I'm sure there were plenty more. These seem to be mix-matched such as items found in junk drawers.

Sarah Hindle someone probably moved off l leaving most of their belongings behind. You'd think why would ppl do this, but it happens more often than you'd think. Once when I was starting over after a bad relationship that left me with almost nothing, I rented a apartment where a childhood friend was managing. The only apartment available at that time was one a Young single mother was living with her daughter who had gotten back together with the daughters rich father. So, when she moved back in with him in another town a hour away she not only didn't need her stuff, but didn't care to do anything with it. So, 8 months later when I was in need so terribly bad I was blessed to be given that 2 bedroom apartment fully furnished. The manger said normally when someone leaves there stuff after so long they will throw it all away. Lucky Me!

I somehow ran across your videos and have been watching them. You seem to be a sweet person and care about some of the memories of life that you come across. I have actually shed a tear here and there when I see that ones life just ends up in a dumpster. I get it, a loved one passes or what have you, and their place is just cleaned out and tossed. It is making me rethink my life.
