    Our society is so weird. We should be more ashamed of adding to the dumpster than taking anything out of it. Such a shame Kelly & Alex even have to think twice about the laws or others views of them. Also a shame dumpster diving is associated with making a mess when most divers I know (or see on YT) are cleaning up while they go. Keep up the good work guys ❤

      I posted once about diving on my personal facebook page and had about 3 people comment about it being gross etc. I love going and seeing what I get and what I found that's useful, and I save a lot of money on groceries too. It gives me a thrill but also makes me sad and angry to see how much gets thrown away. I just read a book called "Secondhand" by Alex Minter, and even a lot that people try to give away and sell eventually gets thrown away.

      For most of them driving or taking a train, plane or bus home. The cost of boxing and shipping these items home would be very expensive. They need to have a weekend where the kids can bring out things to give away to the public. Like a free yard sale.

    • @SandraRamirez-og7gf
      @SandraRamirez-og7gf Рік тому +8

      Again I think we need to realize that a lot of these kids that are leaving the dorm have no way to get this stuff home because they fly home and they don't travel by car. You need to realize they may not have a choice😊

    • @lolaottinger3038
      @lolaottinger3038 Рік тому +3

      @@candilumpkin1196 you are so right about that, you probably noticed the size of that cardboard box they moved a couple of times, well, my ex sent a leather sculpture of a mother and child that we had bought in Santa Barbara 30 years ago to my son in Washington,
      (Pardon the run on sentence, please) when my son was packing up stuff to move back to Texas he asked if I wanted it, I said ok if you have room for it. Well, he shipped it to me via UPS, the sculpture itself may have weighed a pound, but the size of the box was very large, about the size of that large one in the dumpster. It cost $82.00 to ship it. 82. I couldn’t be angry at my son, as much of the packing, cleaning, donating was left up to him and he wasn’t feeling up to par. Turns out that he has leukemia…that’s why he was feeling unwell. Just recently I gave that sculpture to a neighbor that thought it was beautiful. I think that Kelley and Alex do a superb
      job of saving stuff from the landfill and making a little money on the side. Also, it’s not just college aged kids that waste things, most adults do too to varying degrees….I’m guilty as heck about starting science projects in my vegetable bin.

    Isn't it so fun and unbelievable to dive at the college, we live a few blocks from a big college here in Iowa , we don't have a vehicle so we walk down and haul back everything, we end up with so much crap that this year I put a limit on what we can bring home, my favorite is the rugs and containersand course the bedding. But it's funny to watch that you guys find almost exactly everything we do. We have alot of nieces and nephews that always are needing stuff so it leaves as soon as it's cleaned.

    Inspired by your videos, I called Northwestern University's Campus Security and asked them about diving. They too said it was okay as long as we don't leave a mess But that if they see us diving and there IS a mess around the dumpster, even though we didn't do it, they would still kick us out. That's because there's no way of telling whether the mess was there before we got there or not. Well, not unless they go back to the office and check the closed circuit TV tapes anyway, but they wouldn't have time for that and it's not their primary responsibility. I think maybe I'll bring a shovel and a push broom with us when we go and we'll clean up the area around the dumpster before we dive. Nothwestern University is full of some very rich kids and I'm pretty sure those dives are going to be VERY interesting. Thanks for the inspiration! PEACE

      It saddens me to see all this thrown away as well! Think about all the newbie’s coming in who could use this stuff. If these kids had to pay for any of this they’d think twice about tossing it like that! Surely with all the brains on campus someone could come up with a better plan for making use of this stuff! It’s simply a no brainer, this is just sinful,whether they fly home or drive home, figure it out! Remember your children will have to grow up in the world you’re creating… 🤔

    I love the College move out picks because you find so many items in almost new condition. I do want to caution you since you now have Bones, he will enjoy chewing on even the fake Christmas Tree, ribbons, etc. And it's not so much about the mess he might leave as it is about what he might swallow. They can get those small tree needles stuck in their mouth and throat. I've had cats all my life except for a German Shepherd for a few years when I was a kid. My current fur Baby is 13 and I've had to take her to the vet twice now to get "eye teeth" pulled. Five hundred dollars later, let's just say, I don't leave out toys with edges anymore for her to chew on. I hope you don't have any issues with Bones, medical or otherwise. Cats are a lot of fun but if he misbehaves you can say a strong NO to him with lots of cuddles afterward and they learn what their boundaries are pretty quick. I hope you enjoy being a fur parent to this type of fur child as much or more than other ones you've had and shared with your fans.

    wow what fun and good work, imagine all of that rotting away in some land fill. I went to our local dump and the pile was so high If I had climbed to the top I couold have touched the ceilings. the machines were pushing 20 foot piles of everything into a hole int he back and trucks were backed up under it and lined up 5 deep waiting. I took three rugs that were piled ont op, if they see you they freak out but I dumped my stuff and when I turned around I tossed in a rug or two. my friend uses them to stay warm in her cabin where she lived. she can't afford to heat the whole place so which ever room is unheated is like walking through a freezer. so we layered the rugs and she kept warmer all winter. winters are cold u int he foot hills of the mountains. she lives by a river so it is extra cold. winds whipping off of the river. but beautiful so beautiful.
