Tory election betting: Scandal will ‘prove toxic’ to the Tories
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- “I think the third instance of it now will reinforce in voters’ minds that sense of one rule for us and one rule for them.”
The Tory election betting scandal will cut through to voters and turn them away from the Conservative Party, says pollster Luke Tryl.

Why is anybody surprised at the Tories on the fiddle, they've been at it for 14 years.
Yes, it’s now Labour’s turn.
@@VaucluseVanguard "BUT WAHH WAHH! LABOUR WAHH!"
A hundred and 90 years you mean
You mean the Tories are crooks? Who'd have thought!
And the rest
Shameful behaviour by the Tory candidates feathering their own nest.
Soonout taught them well. 😂
UK's choices - Vote Tory else UK will Tear apart.
Vote Tory-Sunak : Support & Save Native White English Anglo Saxon UK
Vote Labour-Starmer: Support for Ez-laamic takeover of UK
Vote Fake-Farage, Waste of Vote.
Wonder what the odds were. Sudden spike of bets caught these shysters out.
I thought that was the main point of the Tory manifesto, how can I make money for myself.
The late Labour MP Bevan said "there is no bar a Tory cannot slither under"
These Tory monsters at No 10 and CHQ have no shame...
They partied whilst we mourned our loved ones...
Everyone was having parties during the pandemic ( anyone who says they didn't have parties are LIARS) LOL
So did Labour.

Lovely. 😂
Even when the spotlight is on them they can't pretend to be decent.
For the post Brexit Tories this is just another day at the office.
Another day at the office party?

Sunak has added a very late sixth pledge STOP THE BETS
A fiver each way....... yet the tories have banked billions of our money. 😮😮😮
Not sure I can ever think of any campaign ever going this badly
This is definitely the most catastrophic campaign ever. It makes Labour's 1983 shambles look good.
Creative and novel ways of disgracing themselves.
Every week you think that things can’t get worse for this incompetent government!😂
Two weeks to go !
Do you think the bookies will be taking bets on the total number of people involved in this latest scandal
Sunak awarded government contracts to his wife's company millions of pounds.
Told you that he only benefits his same colour skin .
Is there anyone left in the tory ranks who isn't under investigation for one thing or another?
Another scandal? You’ve got to be kidding me…
So more of the same corruption and deceit then .Business as usual for the tory shower.
You could pitch the story to a Hollywood studio, and it would be too unbelievable even for them.
I wonder if they have put a bet on zero seats?
that would have been a galactic brain move.
Credit to the guy for all his work with the focus groups and everything, it makes for a very interesting listen!
Bad news for the Tories because of arrogant Sunak
Apparently the folk were trying to bet on the Tory's election outcome rather than the actual date. Just got confused over the use of the word 'fourth'.....
Since their coffers are allegedly empty, maybe they were trying to raise party funds? 😂🤣
O.M.G...CROOK,S.
I offer the embattled Tory Party a new election billboard that matches their needs:
MPs For Sale, Never To Be Repeated Price Cuts!
Get Yours Now!
All Stock Must Go! Make an Offer!
Sale Must End 4th July 2024
To say both tories and reform donors and MP's both bet against the pound pre-brexit, is this really a suprise?
Remainers were speculating on a remain win. That was why sterling increased in value. Why do you defend them?
I would have put money on at least one of them sneaking off to make a bit of cash on the side, but THREE!!!!!!!!!! and the campaign manager, unfortunately the only one who has been suspended is the dozy policeman, sunak is too weak to suspend and then sack his lot.
What makes you think that it is ONLY THREE!!!!!!!! Tory crooked shysters?
It was the campaign manager's wife (who happens to be a candidate) who placed the bet. He has since resigned.
At what point do we accept this is who they are?
Since they started
There'll be more of them. Sunak was told before the candidates were picked.
The weakest statement on any politician is ‘he tells it like it is’ no, he doesn’t, he tells you what you want to hear. What a coincidence that you consider that the unvarnished truth.
It always surprises me when people say that about Farage in particular too. To me, he comes across as possibly the most insincere politician of the lot. All the easy jocularity, the contemptuous sneering, all the smugness. It radiates from his face. He looks, sounds, and acts like a liar to me. He clearly doesn't give a damn about ordinary people. I don't see how people can be such suckers when it comes to him.
Nothing new, remember the commons MPs expenses scandal unearthed by the Daily Telegraph and the 'cash for questions' scandal exposed by the Guardian newspaper!
This comparison between 'Vote Share' and actual seats gained really emphasises the absolute necessity of establishing Proportional Representation in this country. The last election brought the Tories to power, but they didn't have the mandate of the whole country - they were a minority party in terms of 'Vote Share' but were still given power. The same happened when Thatcher got her third electoral win - the demographic showed that she had no votes in Scotland or Wales, nor the north of England - yet she still retained power. That is not democracy - and the Tories would never implement PR because they know they would never have power again - and power is all they crave - that and feathering their own nests, as this programme reveals.
Whatever gave you the idea the 'United' Kingdom is a democracy? We're actually an English feudal kleptocracy, just like Russia, North Korea and other corruptly run totalitarian states, in which the right-wing kleptocratic establishment convince people of an illusion of democracy through their wholly-owned media.
These wont be the only ones. There was a big uptick in betting the day before he announced the election date.
Tory scandal?? Another one?!?! I don't believe it! What utter hypocrisy from the Tories, though at least they're consistent 😉
Full on grifters.
It's just another insight to the Tory mindset. Grubby, dishonest and self-serving.
“Bad news for the tories”, it’s like reporting “Dog bites Man”.
Now, “Man bites Dog” - That would be news!!
Still got money to make before being sacked at election
When the Tories said they were going to "level up" nobody knew they were going to level themselves up with The Monster Raving Loony Party.
Nothing new😂😂
New podium slogan needed....."Stop The Payouts" :)
Forget Bet Fred go Bet Rishi, get all the inside tips and best odds.
I don't understand why people are surprised at powerful people's behaviours.
Are you saying we should just accept that this is just the way things are? I prefer to believe that we can - and will - do better.
Vote out to help out vote Labour after 14 years of decline 😅😮😅😅😅😅
Reinforces the facts of the Tory Government and their backers and supporters especially in the media. These Murdoch goons are going to support the Tories no matter what.
Are some Tories making cash? You bet lol
Sunak himself could be worse for citizens, save U.K now
I don’t think it will make much difference to the outcome now
It's not the scandals that will break the Tories, although they do not help. It is the fact that they broke the promise they made on various issues important to the voters, including immigration, rehabilitating the North, better law enforcement, reforming NHS, growing the economy, and, above all, BREXIT. Instead they went left, with the lockdown and net zero. Is it any wonder that Reform is doing so well?
I dunno, I think partygate really broke through. My father-in-law was dying in hospital and we had to gown up to see him. My wife couldn't hold his hand. Meanwhile Boris and Rishi were ignoring the rules they themselves had made. That creates a level of anger that the usual Tory lies and incompetence can't match.
surely the Tories are just misunderstood 😂
They would like us to think that...
Joke !!
The batch of opinion polls post betting scandal will be interesting.
The level of disdain and contempt the tories and no10 have for the taxpayer and public in general knows no depths.
Could never have imagined such a spectacular fall 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Typical tories greed and intitlement
Sir Kier please bring back honesty please
Trading Places was a great movie, but it can't be much fun in real life.
Rishi Sunak has surrounded himself with complete idiots. His judge of character is pathetic.
It's not just judgement. There are plenty of people who are generally decent but not very bright. Sunak has surrounded himself with those who are both idiots AND profoundly corrupt. That's the real reflection on him.
Rishi SNAKE will only trust his same skin colour idiots.
@@Ealsante I live in Birmingham and I can say with confidence the Tory party does not have a monopoly on corruption and incompetence. Birmingham Council which is Labour controlled has bankrupted the city and residents are now facing a 10% rise in council tax bills this year and next. Labour has just blown £100m on an IT system which apparently does not work very well.
@@charleswillcock3235that was Because of historical court case where women were under paid 🤷🏼
@@andrew30m Yes correct, these women were employed by the Labour council, who failed to understand, and act on the 1972 Equal Pay Act. One would have thought the largest council in Europe would have a legal department to ensure the council complied with relevant laws.
I don’t think Sunak understands he is actually PM. He takes the stance as a member of the public. However if you accept no responsibility it is not surprising.
No. it's one rule for us and no rule for them.
Roll on Scottish independence 🏴
I am pleased that you have brought up the issue of the ‘Parties’, this was probably the main thing that brought down Boris Johnson. The media was quick to latch onto the Tory parties that Boris ‘lied’ about.
The simple unspoken truth is that Downing Street it is not a small house where the PM and Chancellor live, it is a very big building stretching behind the part the public sees, it employs around 450 people, the majority of staff in 10 Downing Street are civil servants. Civil servants are non-partisan professionals who work for the government regardless of which political party is in power. They provide continuity and expertise in various administrative and policy areas, ensuring the effective functioning of the government. Civil servants (should) maintain political neutrality and continue their roles even as different parties assume office.
The ‘parties’ that were reported and lead to Boris Johnsons demise were very likely to be with people from all political sides, I would suggest they were not ‘Tory’ parties, Boris Johnson was ambushed into protecting his staff on what was perceived to be the Tories having parties.
So my view is that, at worse, Boris Johnson was trying to protect his staff (regardless of their political views) and at best, probably he hadn’t known that they had taken place, other than the one or two incidents that he was pictured in (parties, really?) after all it is big place and his accommodation was well out of the way of the offices. Most people would accept that he hadn’t organized any of the events himself.
For me, deciding to have a ‘party’ at that time was a completely bonkers idea, UNLESS of course you were so p****d off about Brexit and Boris that you saw an opportunity bring him down, armed with an iPhone to film the shenanigans.
I certainly know of one or two who have made no secret about plotting to get him out and have made it clear that their intention is to get us back in the EU (even if that means trashing their own party).
Remarkable, some balanced and adult commentary!
As a small mercy I thank the fact that in this country the period from prorogation to ballot is relatively short. Frankly everyone seems desperate to drum up some drama about what I think most people regard as a foregone conclusion - but there isn't enough time for it to get really wild. It wouldn't have made any difference waiting to call an election in November or even calling it any time in the past two years. The Conservatives are suffering from incumbency senescence and Starmer seems to have got Labour to a point where they don't scare the horses. I don't think it's unfair to say the Conservatives didn't win the last few elections, Miliband and Corbyn lost them.
Corbyn lost the 2017 election despite having more votes than the tories. Our corupt FPTP electoral system is responsible for so much damage by giving one party total control they are bound to be corupt Labour or tory.
While the sums involved were very small for them, the whole thing shows what the Torries are all about; financially exploiting what happens in government.
Interesting how they focus on the drop in Labour vote share, yet in the same week there have been other polls showing Labour with a 23 point lead. I do think we need to understand that these polling companies treat their results very differently from each other. That's why we should really stop the polling during an election because it risks influencing the outcome of the election. i.e. some pollsters may be more concerned about satisfying who they are producing the polls for, i.e. newspapers etc.
If they are betting on this, what else are the Tories secretly putting bets on? Very disturbing. Tories out.
All this exposes is the depth of contempt the Tories have of others. I suspect if one were to dig deeper, more would be exposed.
The really important scandal is that it is lawful to bet on anything nowadays such as the date of an election, who will score the next point in a game of tennis and who will score the first goal in a football match when previously all all you bet on was the result of the election and the final result in a game of tennis or football. Problem gambling is an increasing problem for society, as is greed when some people think they can make money when they have inside information on the date of the next election.
"Toxic"? It's ILLEGAL !!! 🤔
Either several people spontaneously decided to break the law and place bets, or they talked about it.
Was Sunak in the room when it happened?
A lot of people placed bets, and we've only got the data from one bookmaker so far.
Who wants to bet Rishi's friends and family had a few quid on at the bookies?
Lib Dem’s👍👍👍
I think lot more labour voters will switch to Reform party the y have come to realize that labour no longer represent them just like Tory's did not ! Ex Tory here switching to Reform party.
It makes my blood boil ...yea right...
Tories and red wall only have one option.REFORM.
Is he having a laugh! Rishi Sunak has used his position to hand out MASSIVE government contracts to his father in-laws Indian I.T .firm Infosys! He and his wife own enough shares to have gained untold millions from the deals.
I wonder have we reached max Tory, to the degree where no matter how bad things go from now on it can't get any worse for them come election day.
People who still vote Tory after all this were never going to change the way they vote
The worst right-wing headbangers have abandoned the Tories in favour of the even more corrupt and dishonest English Nationalist White People's Reform Party Ltd.
Labour in nx office.
Labour on 42 in latest polls. Tories on 19.
Reform will get 30 seat the red wall will see to that😊😊😊
Jesus gave us the tale of the Good Samaritan. Maybe we will soon have the tale of the Honest Tory.
❤ why are you not including the Workers party Britain in you pols ?
All this shows, to me, is the short-term populism of Brexit and Johnson has longer-term consequences.
Indeed. The truth will out.
There cheating on somwere
Dont trust whot there all saying
I have the Tories 100-140 seats but if they insist on shooting themselves in the foot repestedly the lower end is much more likely.
They do seem intent on electoral suicide tho so good luck to em.
Palestine and Ukraine this is way is losing Tories
Here's a thought , if garage gets seats, lib Dems he seats , they could together bring about a better democracy, by getting rid of this divisive first past the post.
Then how many labour mp s would support real democrat change, even torys might support it once there a small party, that would be good news, gopf for greens too
Starmer’s performance was not good but all the same we want the Tories out. The media is helping out

Sunak, the worst unelected priminister ever...
He was elected Leader by his MPs, and as such was able to form a government.
It's the way we do it. UK Prime Ministers have never been elected by public vote.
@@hypsyzygy506 That was unfortunate and very poor judgement on you all...5 in 5 years....
Irritating intonation from Luke Tryl. I spotted he's gay instantly.
Sorry I think this a non story it is not defrauding the taxpayer like the PPP scandal which should never have happened the billions taken resulting in continued austerity
"with Conservative don't know voters, we've found they're much more likely to think Labour will raise taxes" Well that's a surprise, it's not like you gues keep pushing that premise with nearly every Tory guest you have on, along with all the other right wing papers. At this point i think you might chamge the headlines from bad news for the torries , to a norml day for the conservatives, have thay had amy goid news for the last half year?
