“....it’s like a serving suggestion; it’s not always right.” This may be the best, and most honest, thing anyone has ever said! It’s things like this that make your videos so fun to watch-your explanations are easy to understand.
LOL I love how you start saying "this is not a tutorial" and then you go and do a super detailed tutorial of what a Press Pen is and how to assemble the whole pen. Thanks for this, really great to see how its done slowly, now I wish I had one too, those pens of yours are so pretty :-)
I had no idea that such a device existed. Very clever tool for making beautiful pens. You sure taught me something new, so I am gonna call it a tutorial!
Thank you so much. Love watching you. I’ve had my pen press for a while but had been avoiding it! 😱 I know you said it’s not a tutorial but, you make it so clear how to use it. ❤️❤️
Oh my goodness I found your channel 2 nights ago....and have so enjoyed listening to you. I love your accent. I don't even do polymer clay, but was so taken with your pen press that I thought if I did do clay I would definitely need to get one. Lol. You are very entertaining. I have to add I was watching one of your videos in which you w e r e describing your going back to college and the difficulty that you had, and ultimately ended up quitting because of the problem. That video was of great help! For years I have suffered attacks such as what you had gone through to the point that I didn't want to go out. So I can really relate and my heart goes out to you Thanks for sharing that.
Thank you! I'm sorry you've experienced the same issues! I have other videos that aren't clay related - there are lots in a playlist of things that "spark joy" that might make you laugh. xx
I really enjoy your presentation style and was just talking to my sister last night about wanting to get a pen press. I expect I’ll do that in the new year! Merry Christmas from Canada, not the entire country necessarily, but little old me in Ottawa lol
I love it-thank you! i have tried making these with using a rubber mallet but I have messed up more pens than not. I may have to purchase one of these pen presses. Great viedo
Ingenious! Both the pen press and your lovely pens. Each time you showed one in close up I just wanted to reach through the screen so I could fondle it. Could the pen kit and pen press be used to make ergonomic pens with fat grips? If so, well, I am barely hanging onto my self control after seeing your beautiful pens and if I could make ergonomic pens... well, I would just have to. I'll just say "the Unruly Housewife made me do it!" LOL
Haha! Of course you could! You can make any shape you like for the bottom. At the top you could leave it thinner for the clip, or just leave the clip off (I assume). xx
I had been very curious about how a pen press works!! How did you know that, Val? Thank you for satisfying that curiosity. The comment about people who make pens for a living were crying right now is why I love watching your videos! You're the best!!
Thank you for sharing, I have a pen press but the instructions were so vague I didn't know which end went in which end lol. But you cleared that up for me so thank you very much. If you don't mind me asking, did you use Gilding Flakes on your pens and if so which one(s)? Really beautiful pens, I hope Jen Lawson makes a tutorial for it. Thanks again for the helpful info!
Wow! I have never heard of a pen press - must live under a rock. This is a cool machine - and I just love machines. LOL. Beautiful pens - thanks for sharing.
Really enjoyed this. I've seen the pen kits, but simply kept on walking past the stall looking like a frightened rabbit. I NOW have a clearer understanding of what they are, what you need to produce something as beautiful as your shown pens, and how to do it, thanks!! You, as usual made me smile, but I was a tad worried I hadn't giggled... Then came the moment you twisted the finished pen and nothing happened - oops! Cried with laughter, and as you know I need laughter as much as food and water right now! Thank you for the complete 'Unruly' package!! Love you too!! 😍
Your instructions were brilliant Valerie, it is so frustrating that when pen kits arrive they have no instructions for putting them together, so you video is fantastic for that. I also now have tool envy - I don't have a pen press !! …….. I need one, want one !! ;)
Hi have subscribed a few months back! I remembered that you covered normal pens! These fancy ones look great but I will have to see how I do with the bic pens. I’m now going to find your video on covering pens, love your videos you make me laugh and let’s face it not much to laugh about with the state our poor country is in!!! Hugs from Sussex👍🥰💕🥰🐶🐶🐶🇬🇧
What a cool gadget! I love cool gadgets.... I'm telling myself I don't need another cool gadget... I'll keep telling myself that. We'll see how long it is before I get one, lol. Your pens are so pretty, I especially like the one that looks like it has metallic flakes on it.
Thanks so much for demonstrating the pen press! Do you have a tutorial for making the gorgeous black and torn variegated metal leaf (I assume) veneer? I adore it!
Amazon darling... always Amazon. On the USA one the pictures look like they are covered in wood but reading it, I think the wood blanks are a separate thing.
You always have the best videos! I’ve wonder for a couple hrs. Now if this was hard to do. You make it look easy but I’ve looked into the starter kit and it runs around $200.00 u.s. dollars. I don’t think I could sell enough to pay for it. I wish I could afford it. Thanks for showing this?
That sounds a lot... Wood turners (who often use this equipment) need more things than we do - just a basic 50 dollar press and a set of pen kits is enough. I found one called "Legacy Woodturning, Slimline Pen Kit, Many Finishes, Multi-Packs" on Amazon USA with 10 pens for 27 dollars. It looks like the pens are ready made but they don't include the wood, so are just like mine. xx
Can you please provide a link where you bought your pen kits? Also, what are the blank pen kits called? That way I can maybe search for them on Amazon or Google... I can only find pen kits that have covered/finished Barrel...not any just "naked" pen kits that I can cover (except when it's in a polymer clay pen kit which has a "vice" and other tools/supplied but it's $100 on Penn State Ins!!!) Thank you so much! Excellent job as always ❤ 💋
OK on Amazon USA I saw these "Legacy Woodturning, Slimline Pen Kit, Many Finishes, Multi-Packs" they looked like they included wood (they showed the finished product) but digging deeper into the questions and comments, I'm pretty sure they only have in them the same tubes as mine. I even saw a person describing doing what I did, in the replies to questions (had to click on more replies). xx
Thank you so much!! I'll check it out! I love the very beautiful pens you've made. I'm a recently New subscriber & loving you videos!! I dabbled a bit with cane making, many moons ago. And recently have been very interested in getting back into it. Much too busy right now to actually put my hands on any clay. But thoroughly enjoying & learning from your tutorials meantime! Thank you!! 🌼
I just looked on Amazon and found a pen press cheaper than penn state. My question is do you ever have to disassemble a pen? Just wondering because there is on just presses and the other presses and disassembles. Why would you need to disassemble one? You got me wanting to make some pretty pens! It’s all your fault! Lol love your work.❤️
Mary Stoddard I've had to disassemble pens in the past because something on them broke or was damaged. Depending on what was damaged, I could just replace that bit or take the decorated barrels and make a 'new' pen (if the other pen guts were too damaged). Also, sometimes assembly just. goes. wrong. Haha. Something presses wonky and can't be used or straightened. Then you have to take it apart and try again. I do have to admit, disassembly is not as easy as it looks. I usually had to use a vice or other sort of heavy duty clamp to get it done.
Chrissy has hit the nail on the head - when things go wrong after you've pressed the pen, it's hard to undo. I've just bought a little set that helps to disassemble pens but it's very basic (it works with a hammer). A special press that does both would be cool but maybe a bit pricey for me.
Can I ask where you got it from? Also what sort of price range are they? I know that’s a bit cheeky to ask, but if I don’t ask I won’t know. I am now 60 so as an older lady my son says it’s my Scottish right of birth to ask questions, whether I get the answer I want or not lol Huggles xxxAnnxxx
I'm 60 too! I got my pen press from Turner's Retreat somewhere in England lol. It costs just under £55 but CS Crafts ( up in Scotland) do a slightly less expensive pen press, so check both out. I get my pen kits from CS Crafts and they even sent me some to show people ( there is an unboxing video on my channel somewhere but I'm replying from my phone, so no idea how to link it lol). This pen press is also available on Amazon, similar price but might take longer to get here. xx
Unruly Housewife Thank you for the answer. I went on to watch that other video you mentioned, a place in Fife I think it said. I have lots of time to check them out anyway, I’m layer up at the min after having a ruptured Achilles’ tendon repaired!! What fun....not lol. I shall let you know if I uncover any spectacular bargains anywhere. Huggles xxxAnnxxx
I love the black one with purple most but they are all very beautiful. But for household it would not be rentable to buy such a pen press. I order in Germany FIMO pens for under 11 Euro per piece and there are 4 small packages clay inside too. I make approximately 1 pen per year. But mine are never getting such beautiful as yours. :-(
How come kids do all these videos on making polymer clay anime and cartoon characters and they don't get in trouble for that? I mean, their channel makes them money. Is it only copyright infringement if they sell the piece?
That is a pretty neat machine. I assume you did the clay yourself and it didn’t come that way? You really should be getting dressed for th Royal wedding. What are you going to wear? (Lol)
Yeah, I did the clay myself, with some added metal leaf and a lot of swearing LOL. For the Royal Wedding I'm wearing my "I didn't vote for them" T Shirt... Or I would be, if I actually owned one. ;) xx

Thank you! Yeah, I just couldn't help myself. :D xx
Ingenious covering of the "crack"! Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Oh good! Have a go, you'll be fine! xx
So pleased you showed this, it’s taken the mystery out of pen making for me !! And so very pretty Thank you
Oh my goodness I found your channel 2 nights ago....and have so enjoyed listening to you. I love your accent. What a great video, Val! I had absolutely no idea so much was involved in covering a pen! Very interesting! XXX
thats awsome! I'd love to have one, those pens are a great gift for anyone! thanks for showing us.
I love it-thank you! i have tried making these with using a rubber mallet but I have messed up more pens than not. I may have to purchase one of these pen presses. Great viedo
Your pens are beautiful. Thanks for sharing this, I never realized that there was such a thing as a pen press. Love it.
Thanks for sharing, love your vids. I went out and purchased a pen press, been wanting to make pens for ages.
That's brilliant! You will NOT regret it! xx
Ingenious! Both the pen press and your lovely pens. Each time you showed one in close up I just wanted to reach through the screen so I could fondle it.

Really liking the pen press and thank you for showing how it all goes together
Finally bought one, scared to use it haha. Hope your well, miss your tutorials x
That 2nd pen you made (the black with pink and gold foil) that you showed at the beginning is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! ❤❤❤
That was Jen Lawson's recipe. LOL xx
Unruly Housewife too bad!! I love to see a tutorial on that! Lol
I had been very curious about how a pen press works!! How did you know that, Val? Thank you for satisfying that curiosity. The comment about people who make pens for a living were crying right now is why I love watching your videos! You're the best!!
Haha, thanks! My friends directed me to a PDF but originally I saw Jen Lawson making them. xx
Your pens are so beautiful ❤❤❤!!! I would love to give them a try one day!!!
beautiful pens!
Thank you for sharing, I have a pen press but the instructions were so vague I didn't know which end went in which end lol. But you cleared that up for me so thank you very much. Oh I love the pen press. The red handle is making me remember your bolt cutters. 😁It really is a great little invention.🌼🥄
Haha! It is a bit similar! Mostly it looks like something a bit "adult"....
Hehehe
Wow! I have never heard of a pen press - must live under a rock. This is a cool machine - and I just love machines. LOL. Beautiful pens - thanks for sharing.
Had no idea that was difficult 🤤 first time seeing this .. thanks
To be fair Razan, I think I might have made it look more difficult than it is. I had a tripod blocking me for a start LOL. xx
Really enjoyed this. I've seen the pen kits, but simply kept on walking past the stall looking like a frightened rabbit. I had to leave that in... I was like "what happened?!" but then I remembered that whole "ink bit" that pens need LOL. xx
Your instructions were brilliant Valerie, it is so frustrating that when pen kits arrive they have no instructions for putting them together, so you video is fantastic for that. I also now have tool envy - I don't have a pen press !! …….. I need one, want one !! ;)
Oh my goodness, you deserve one! xx
Maybe we could club together as a group and get one? :)
Maybe ;)
As always, your "side" comments make me smile. That was neat to watch ! Thanks ! xx
Very interesting, your pens are beautiful, gonna make great gifts.
Cool video I was wondering what the pen press did when you showed it in your patreon video! Now I'm going to have to go and buy one too!
Brilliant video. Thanks for the show and tell Val :0)

Keepsake Crafts by Sandy Huntress Now I want one Sandy !
Lol, Tracy!
Keepsake Crafts by Sandy Huntress... I am pen press coma and get me. You know you want to. 😂😂 get me, get me, get me.....
Thanks so much for demonstrating the pen press! Do you have a tutorial for making the gorgeous black and torn variegated metal leaf (I assume) veneer? I adore it!
That was one Jen Lawson taught us, so it isn't really my baby. She is toying with getting her own channel so watch out for that! xx
Thanks very much - I’ll keep an eye out for it! 🙂
Tfs I’ve never heard of pen pressing. Loving it.
Thank you 😊 Do you have a UK or EU link for the slimline pen kits to make the pens?
I got mine from CS Crafts and if you Google that they will pop right up 😊.
@@UnrulyHousewife Perfect 👍😊 thanks
lol and then you got your own
New clay tool 😏 where / me ! Ugh now I want one 🤓 found the press but where do I find the pen kits ? Thanks Val !
Amazon darling... always Amazon. On the USA one the pictures look like they are covered in wood but reading it, I think the wood blanks are a separate thing.
Unruly Housewife ugh I saw those but they all looked pretty and finished - that’ll teach me 😉 !

Unruly Housewife tysm...u Rock!!! ❤
I have never heard of a pen press. This is very neat, I would have pens galore lol
Great vid.
Pretty cool & nifty!!
What's the cost? In dollars, if you know the conversion. Thank you for the video!!
I Googled it and found one for just under $50. If you search for Milescraft it often turns up on woodturners craft pages, as they make pens.
Thank you!! 🌼
I’ve seen these on pa. State pens but as I said the whole scabang costs about 200.00 u.s. dollars!
See my reply to your other comment. xx
I have to get this I been working with clays and polymer clays before the united states had it available , ware can I buy this
The best way to find one is to Google Milescraft Pen Press in your country, or to look on wood turning websites. xx
Hi love your channel I’m hooked x
Yay! Thank you! xx

Oh my another toy for our collection!
I love it!

I bit the bullet :) and used the pen press - photos on face Book :)
I love the black one with purple most but they are all very beautiful. But for household it would not be rentable to buy such a pen press. I just added metal leaf and a thin skin of translucent clay over it. xx
Oh! Thank you for this tip! I will try it in summer. :-)
Really pretty
soooo cuteeee
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Yes! It satisfied my curiosity! I want one! Certainly better than a disgruntled husband that puts my pens together!
If you clamped the pen press to your table it would be easier to do the pressing.
Are you selling your beautiful pens?
Can you do a Hello Kitty inspired pen? I would buy one.
No, Sanrio would sue my backside off LOL. I'm not selling my pens at the moment but maybe nearer Christmas I might... ;)
How come kids do all these videos on making polymer clay anime and cartoon characters and they don't get in trouble for that? I mean, their channel makes them money. Is it only copyright infringement if they sell the piece?
I think the videos might be walking a fine line. Selling models is deffo a bad idea. xx
That is a pretty neat machine. I assume you did the clay yourself and it didn’t come that way? You really should be getting dressed for th Royal wedding. What are you going to wear? (Lol)

Unruly Housewife Oh my God, that is hilarious...😯😆
Interesting, but I wont be buying one.
