Another couple of weeks and you'll turn the corner. Nicer weather, more time. Gardeners are always at the mercy of the weather, and it's seems like there's always more to learn. Even if you don't get a bountiful harvest this year, you'll create some wonderful memories with your family!
Definitely. Looking at the weather next week looks like it will be getting better. Always knew this year was going to be a learning curve and more building than growing. Having good memories planting with the kids
Congratulations on your new allotment!! suggestion for the ground cover: might I suggest using contractors paper for your pathways and even for your beds! its not only better for the environment but it is cheaper than the black ground cover. eventually the black ground cover fails and ripping it out to replace it is a massive pain! Place down 3 layers of the contractors paper(thick brown paper that comes on a roll at a hardware/building store) and then use 4inches of mulch or gravel for the pathways. I can't wait for June to come (last frost date is then) so that I can start planting in my gardens again!!
Thanks. Just found that paper on Amazon really good idea. I just need to get my delivery of wood chip if they ever turn up. My frost date is mid may so not long now. June I would be pulling my hair out waiting that long 😂
sound u like from my neck of the woods i live in seaham. great video bud i have suubed. i just started my first youtube channel my self around a week ago but aim growing things for the first time with my partner also only growing ina small home garden and back yard.
Yep...to much weight on soft soil. I got a large rubber trash bin and use that. I put a spicket in the bottom to hook a hose on. It sits on cinder blocks so I can use the gravity to water
Thanks I knew after the first video I put up when I got the water collection something like that would have happened. Should of listened when people said put slabs down but didn't want to empty the water out.
Don't despair about your potatoes, I'm sure they will appear when you get a bit of warmer weather. I live in the Scottish Highlands and my first earlies took a good 5-6 weeks to start poking their heads through.
There's so much you can grow up here, don't listen to anyone who says you can't! I live on the west where rainfall is huge between Cairngorms and Nevis Ranges and a small example of what I'm growing is peas, carrots, potatoes, all sorts of brassicas, leeks, and in my polytunnel I have peppers, aubergines, 7 varieties of toms, squash, herbs, flowers and lots of soft fruits. Anything is possible if you are game to try. Keep an open mind and realistic goals and enjoy the evolving journey.
Hi Mate, gutted about your water container, may be go to a couple of your local take a ways they might have big cooking oil vats they might give you one. And yes that does look like a potato plant and more will grow, good look with your allotment mate
I think with the amount of rain we have had over the last week or so i think its been quite full, maybe 3/4 . Then if the leg has snapped, the force of the water crashing against the lid has torn the stitching away. As for the string and the bed, no idea. Definitely your first potato. Does your site not have a whatsapp group ? if so its an easy way of contacting or leaving messages. Try " Tweed " or " Marian " Swede, They do ok in wet ground. Sorry to hear about your sunflower mate, you still have plenty of time, you must be planting it directly into the soil are you if the slugs are eating them. Start them off in a pot, mine will stay in a pot all the time, just potting on until it goes into a 30 ltr tub, that will be big enough. See if you can get some blue barrels, usually car dealerships and bus companys have them for adblue, they normally give the barrels away, failing that you could always use a black plastic bin. Sorry you are having so much bad luck at the minute, thinmgs will pick up for you i am sure.
I do t think it has a what's app will ask about. I feel like I might have some of that swede seeds in the house. Sown some more sunflowers so will catch up. Think I will look into different water collection
But on the good side your almost at 900 subs 🥳. Oh hopefully you will get some better days it probably compromised the leg and water weighs a ton. Go to marketplace and look for used things to start with it’s cheaper than buying new. Don’t let things get you down if a weed grows so will a spud 🥔. Patience grasshopper keep at it you’ll get there, Ali 🌧️🌤️🇨🇦
I know can't believe how many I have got. Hopefully the weather is set to be heating up next week. Think I will have a shop about today and see what I can get. The spuds hopefully are just being slow. Thanks Ali have a good week
WE CAN DO IT 😊 we have a nice couple of weekends off to sort it all out
I look forward to seeing the sunflower grow along.
Same I want to see how people are trying to grow the biggest if it's luck or skill
Aye. Sowed mine this weekend! Russian Giant. Are you getting involved too?
@@JacobsonFamilyAllotment Definitely skill - that's why mine will be rubbish.
I'm growing so many sunflowers

Yea just from Gateshead Blaydon way. Jumping over to your channel now to have a watch. Thanks for subbing
could use that broken bag as a composter
I never thought about that thanks. I have been using it for water but hadn't done a good job. Definitely doing this

I guess we need the bad days to make us truly appreciate the good days!
That's very well put

Thank ooo me and the partner want to move the the Highland eventually. Gives me hope you can still grow things there 😂

Looks like the weight of the water has caused it to fall over 😮
Must have. It has been about 3/4 full for a while wonder if it's a mix of poor footing and too much in
Things gardeners say: "I want some pooh!" 🤣💩
Never thought I would be eyeing up pooh wanting it 😂
Get an old black bin or a wheelie bin , I have 5 plastic bins on my pen and you can never have enough rainwater.
Thanks. I feel like normal water collection doesn't work that well on a plot bins probably be better
Have you had strong wind ?
Not really and where it was the wind shouldn't be hitting it.
@@JacobsonFamilyAllotment oh ok maybe just the weight of the water
Sorry about your waterbutt.
Thanks
Get plastic water butt ,throw that thing away no good any way .
Yea starting to think it's not very good at holding alot of water 😂.

Oh I dream of the day I have nearly 900 subs! Could you use an old wheelie bin?
@@TheBeginnerGardener they way you are going you will definitely get that many subs. Yea I will keep an eye out for bins
