- Peony season is never long enough!! Here’s our fave trick to save the blooms in the fridge - rumor has it they can last from May till November.
You can cut the barely opened peony buds now, wrap well and store in the fridge until you’re ready for them to open. Now you can have Peonies all through out the summer and into fall!
Thank you for this! What is the purple variety you show? Such a unique and gorgeous color!
A video showing the result months later when you take them out of the fridge would be extremely helpful in proving your theory to the skeptics!
I have some in the fridge now - I'll post one in a bit to show you how lovely they are in another month or two!
@@ciderpresslane thanks! That would be lovely!!
Nice beautiful job very interesting Watching from California I got new ideas and I love your videos
thank you! more garden fun coming as the summer season gets underway!
I heard CA can’t grow peonies because they need a cold winter to sprout? A helpful tip indeed if it works for you (like store bought blooms?) .
I Planted 2 peony plants last year
I Thought They would Flower This Year But Nothing
Phoenix Beauty Bowl Is The Plant, Does Anyone Have Any Idea When They Will Flower?
Did the leaves/foilage part of the plant come up? Peonies can take up to 3 years to start blooming. They don't like getting moved, so if they sent up lots of greenery this year and are looking healthy just leave them be and then then hard part is you simply have to wait for them to get established. But I promis it's worth it! They produce more and more blooms as they get 'older'
So, it's been a year since you made this video. I don't see that anyone has posted a video or photo of peonies stored int he fridge and then revived in a vase. C'mon, share, please, we want to see if this really works!
How much time do the blooms need in the water, after coming out of the fridge, to be in a good bloom?
Can you please do a video where you reveal what they look like months later? I only got them to go for about one month.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! I just moved to a new property in New England and we have soooo many beautiful plants as our property waded previously inhabited by a botanist. This video was Just what I needed to keep his stunning legacy blooming all summer!❤🥰🤘
I just stumbled on your channel. You are so cute. When your peony is it's first year and smaller, what type of fertilizer is best.
Hello Kelly. Excllent video. Thanks for sharing. That straw hat and those overalls fit you perfectly. I'm definitely going to follow your recommendations for storing those lovely peony blooms in my refrigerator. 🌻🌼 🌹😉
thanks for show me 👏😍🌸
Thank you for that ! So nice ! Can you tell me the name of the peony you are holding in de beginning !So beautifull
The first Peony is an Itoh Variety - it blooms a bit earlier than my other Peonies and has the YUMMIEST smell! Look at local greenhouses for one that is already established, they're a bit pricey but so worth it.
@@ciderpresslane Do you know specifically which variety it is?

@@ciderpresslane Thank you!
Absolutely great sharing and I might try into my Peonies , thank you and see you around
Love it!
I want to hold off my peonies for only 11 days since thats when ill be getting married. One has gone to full bloom, a couple have marshmallowed and majority are still pre-mature marshmallow stage (still closed). Do you think I'll be safe to leave them all be and trim in 10 days to use in my bouquet? Or should I preserve like you specifically for my event?
Since you have so many that are still in the pre marshmallow stage I would simply leave them on the plant and let them bloom naturally - the bloom heads are bigger and sturdier when they can stay on the plant. 3 days before you need the blooms go cut as many as needed that are just opening up. Place them in water and store in a cool place to allow them to hydrate. Then they'll be so happy in your bouquet!
What is the name of your 'peach' peony flower you are showing us? Very pretty.
Isn't it lovely! It's an Itoh Peony, there are lots of different color variations available. And I've seen them at local greenhouses for a decent price. They're a specialty peony so they're a bit more expensive.
which level of fridge should I put them in? middle? Bottom?
Lol
Thanks for sharing, great sharing, we love and have lots of peonies❤ Where did you get your great hat☺
Check out www.sundayafternoons.com !! It's the Tradewinds Hat - it is my absolute FAVE!
what an amazing trick! thanks!
Interesting! I just had all my landscaping torn out in late spring and all new landscaping done, but my landscaper didn't get all my plants put in until the middle of July. Naturally, the peonies didn't bloom, or should say they had already bloomed at the nursery. Look forward to trying this next year!
Oh yes - peonies LOVE getting into their spot and just doing their thing. They don't like being moved and fussed with. I hope you get a bumper crop of blooms next season!
@@ciderpresslane They bloomed the last week of May and the first week of June... The red peony only had 1 bloom and the white peony had 6 blooms. I'm hoping next spring will bring better results! It's sad that they have such a short bloom time...
That is a unique looking one. Never heard they could be stored like that. The worst is if you work at a flowershop and women getting married get it in their head this is what I want, though it is not in season. This might work for one of those cases.
I’d never promise it for a wedding 🤣 but it is fun for a personal experiment!
@@ciderpresslane That is wise. Just got off a peony dividing and transplanting job. I told the woman about what I learned on your channel. She had another woman do this for her aniversary one year. Im going to try it next year, thanks.
I've cut mine to make a bridal bouquet (for myself) at the end of July. Any idea how many days I should allow to bloom? I did a test run with 3 cut blooms and it seemed 2-3 days with powdered flower food.
I agree - 3 days is about how long it takes to get them fully open. When I do florals I get the bloom heads closed on day one, create the florals on day 2 and allow them to rest and be fully hydrated in a room temperature area, then by day 3 when you're carrying that bouquet down the aisle they'll be happy and open but not looking tired and droopy! Cheers to the most beautiful wedding bouquet!
@kelly, Please disregard my comment I just left! I should have kept reading.
@Alissa thank you so much for your question as I had the same- my wedding is in 11 days! CONGRATS TO YOU AND YOUR FUTURE HUSBAND! Your Peony boquet is going to be STUNNING!
@@nikkiprado8015 not to worry!!! I'm so happy to help - cheers to creating the most amazing bridal bouquet from your own garden!!!!
I’m so on it!
