I loved it when Roger lost it over the Art of Noise Dragnet theme remix. 😂

Yes she's still the prettiest girl in the world in my opinion. And then there's Jennifer Connelly who was the most beautiful
Edit: Karate Kid and Labyrinth by the way. Also Once Upon a Time in America

I must confess I have a soft sport for Adventures in Babysitting. I saw it much too young to really get it, and it kind of stuck around in my early life. I haven't seen it in some time, though, but what scenes I remember I do remember foundly

I'm 37 and saw it for the first time in like 25 years. It holds up and I really enjoyed it as much as a middle aged man as I did as a kid. Go watch it.

I remembered how truly brilliant Aykroyd was in Dragnet, and how I hated Hanks' character. That's awesome that they both gave it thumbs up.

I loved Dragnet more than I really expected. I am not always a fan of movie versions of TV classics because they tend to be parodies -- and lousy ones at that (The Green Hornet, anyone?) -- but THIS was a parody that worked perfectly. And the ending about "the [no-longer] virgin Connie Swail" was the best.
And I really appreciated the tribute to the great Fred Astaire. Yes, indeed, Fred Astaire "could dance a little." 🤣🤣

I remember the first time I watched Inner Space, on rented VHS of course. I must have been around 12, and I loved it. I'll still love it just as much aged 46. Dragnet is a great movie too

I'd watch Dragnet and Innerspace all the time as a kid. Very fun movies though I'm surprised as adults they liked Dragnet but Gene has a point about Ackroyd's performance. Great Astaire tribute. A few years later after '87 I had some neighbors who introduced his films to me and I enjoyed watching his films. I wanted to dance like him.

I love the movie Fred Astaire and Red Skelton made titled Three Little Words. It’s a really well rounded movie. It’s about the actual songwriting duo of Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby. It’s as much about the creative process and their relationship as anything else. Fred Astaire was a rather good actor.

Dan Aykroyd in Dragnet was excellent example of why he could have been a part of Monty Python. He was that good, hitting the similar kind of machine gunning dialogue style as Michael Palin, Graham Chapman and Eric Idle could.

Calling Adventures in Babysitting a blend of Farris and Risky Business is hopelessly wrong, but I understand why they used it because they were trying to relate it in a way that younger people could understand it, but a better comparison would have been with Jack Lemon's film The Out of Towners.

Used to love these guys! I didn't always agree with their reviews, but their chemistry and personalities made it work.
FTR, I loved Dragnet (so did Dad who used to listen to the old radio program and TV series) and Dan Ackroyd's performance alone makes it worth the watch. If Jack Webb had lived long enough to see the film, he would have approved of him too!
Oddly enough I never saw Adventures in Babysitting but plenty of friends who had said it was hilarious.
Innerspace, while treading similar ground as Fantastic Voyage, it was still a fun movie to watch and also worth a watch.

I’m very surprised they both liked ‘Dragnet’ - especially Siskel. I thought it was drab and Aykroyd was dull as well. There’s a reason this movie bombed 💣.

Gene always had some weird choices for Oscar nods
Dan Aykroyd for Best Actor ? I mean seriously
Same thing when he pushed James Woods for Best Actor for John Carpenter's Vampires

Had Dragnet been a better film, I would say that would be something worth recognizing. The opportunity missed here is bringing clean cut 1950s Joe Friday into the 1980s. Instead, they decided to take on a fairly tired target, a televangelist, and Playboy for some reason. There was no thought put into the film other than getting the main duo right.

    • @kd17Burger

@@ricardocantoral7672 I guess I liked the movie a little more than you did - I thought Dabney Coleman was Very Funny, but my main point - it would be like saying Leslie Nielsen should have been nominated for Naked Gun - Aykroyd was doing an impersonation of an actor who had no personality on the TV show - I do not consider that acting and certainly not Oscar Worthy - Gene was really stretching there

    • @ricardocantoral7672
      @ricardocantoral7672 Рік тому +2

@@kd17Burger I would say Joe Friday had a personality, especially in the 60's show. He was the straight arrow dedicated to law and order even sacrificing a domestic home life just for his job. The show did not focus on his character but I could imagine a compelling story about Joe's personality. Also, on the subject of the film, it seems to assume that Joe was a far right Republican. The 60's show may have criticized "those darn kids" but they were actually progressive. There were episodes that went after the far right and Joe made it clear he had nothing to do with them.
