One point regarding Teekl and their willingness to be grabbed, handled, and so on with Klarion is that it implies a degree of closeness. That even outside the arrangement of being a familiar Teekl views Klarion as their favorite person. And honestly the way Young Justice and especially Phantoms went on to apply that is lovely. Showing that despite being a chaotic little shit with little regard for anyone else he adores his familiar like any good pet owner.
Well, some redeeming quality: In a weird crossover with DC Comics and Loony Tunes which pitted Catwoman against Black Canary, alongside Sylvester and Tweety, Klarion ends up being a contributor for good winning out. Basically in a gathering of witches and other magic oriented DC characters a version of Witch Hazel enacts a wager of cosmic-level stakes between cat-kind and bird-kind: That Sylvester and Tweety must battle it out, and whichever wins everything cat or bird related in the universe will cease to be, be it biological, magical or thematic, hence Catwoman and Black Canary. At the height pretty much every cat and bird themed superhero and villain is conjured to duke it out, but Klarion ends up being one of the individuals who calls for this silly wager to end, namely because he didn't want to lose Teekl, even if he himself would not be affected by the wager.

He's great cuz he's funny as hell in that episode. Every villain don't gotta have deep pathos to come across as entertaining. I think about it like how Richie from hard to kill is just a violent crackhead. In reality that's all you have to be to be a villain. You don't need a lengthy backstory or evil philosophy besides I matter more than others and I will take what I want by force
I feel like Klarion would work well with Superman, Klarion's magic vs Superman would be fun, and it’d be awesome to see Superman whip him into shape and give his a talking to
We love our horror goofy goth boy. Klarion may not be as engaging but Young Justice made him so terrifying yet hilarious. Sure Young Justice is not the same anymore but Klarion was the only few things good about the modern seeasons. He's hammy, comical and fun.
The STAS episode, Hand of Fate, aired a few months before this which featured Doctor Fate. As to tie back to your video "How SUperman changed the world", the STAS show probably opened the floodgates for more overt DC world expansions which included the supernatural.
"The Demon Within" was one of those Batman episodes that felt out of place to me, especially introducing these magical characters who Batman was somehow already familiar with. Superman's "The Hand of Fate" left me feeling equally as lost when Superman showed instant familiarity with Doctor Fate. It felt like I missed an episode somewhere.
I have always really like Klarion. I believe this episode was the very first time I saw him. I like his pilgrim clothing, Teekl and the fact he is so dangerous but still just a child. Not for sympathetic reasons mind you but because of how you then can defeat him. Like being taller then him XD. I also read the Morrison comic and Melmoth creeped me out as a kid. Of course Young Justice also helped but for me that was more seeing a character I already liked rather then liking him due to it. Though I liked making him a Lord of Chaos and his genuine love for Teekl.

If I had to guess, I think Klarion keeps possessing his barber in order to get the hairstyle he wants, and the barber has to watch in horror while they involuntarily make that atrocious haircut.
The childish things that Klarion makes Etrigan do in TNBA makes him sound like a typical antagonist that you might see in an episode of The Fairly Oddparents...and I think such a character DOES exist in that show! (I'm not sure, it's been years since I've watched it.)
Klarion is a trickster character. One who enjoys messing things up for the pleasure of it, not for some grand plan. Kind of like a more powerful, but less malicious Joker. Thanks for the video.
klarion becomes good if he is considered Dr Fates opposite. dr fate lord of order and klarion lord of chaos. makes both villians and heros. dark sied and dr fate would get along while klarion would hate dark sied. klarion likes joker, creeper, two face, dr fate would hate all three. this allows klarion to be a pest to hero's villians alike since he could start rebellions and revolts everywhere (hawk & dove could be soldiers in chaos order war). dr fate could cause enslavement because it enforces order. klarion need to be fleshed out to be like Nezha legend. Dr fate cold dragon king.
It's interesting how insular the supernatural things remained in a way. It would have been interesting to see how the New Batman Adventures rogues gallery would have acted or what they would have done if even for a single episode they were clued in on sorcery/sorcerers being a reality. Outside of Poison Ivy, who already is a meta human with powers. I can already hear Mark Hamill reciting some form of pixie dust joke line in my head writing this. And no, I don't mean Emperor Joker grade stuff. More like just the clown getting his hands on some minor magical doodads to throw into the ring at a moment when it amuses him. And the Joker and JL style snarky Etrigan being in the same room bantering as all heck breaks loose would have been very amusing, plus provide a good set up for quite a many gags. Not to mention how other rogues gallery members would react to and behave in the presence of Etrigan.
Part of me likes this version and the Kirby version for just being a comically evil magic wielder; he’s a threat to a world beyond his dimension but given his age and personality, Klarion comedically subverts the chaotic villain role by simply using his powers for sadistic yet childish schemes.
As someone with a rough relation with Young Justice(I never liked making Zatanna a teenager) I do have to admit the version of Klarion from that show was much more fleshed out than in TAS who sadly only got one episode for himself
If they didn't want supernatural characters then they should have restricted what some of the characters they used can do. Ras was clearly using magic to extend his life, but some of the things Ivy did just defy science, and that's if we don't count Manbat and Clayface. If you let sci-fi go far enough, it just looks like magic.
Godlike power and childlike immaturity are a deadly combination, but also a very entertaining one. See also: Majin Buu. Episode definitely felt like the Hand of Fate from the Superman animated series, with our hero forced to ask the aid of a sorcerer to handle a dangerous magical threat they're completely unversed in.
Besides Klarion, there is Mordred, the son of Morgan La Fey, from Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. I love the JLU episode, " Kids Stuff", where Mordred steals a medallion and uses it's magic to banish all the adults to another dimension so that he will be the king of an adult free world! Also, he turned Etrigan into a baby demon!
Klarion here is one of those great little "Workhorse" villians. Those fun little one off foes that spark an entertaining plot that fills the series with a great variety of different colorful and varied adventures.
I originally enjoyed this episode more for Blood than Klarion. Klarion himself got a much more interesting update in later iterations, especially Young Justice. Which honestly improves this episode for me retroactively.
True Story: Paul Dini pitched the Sandman story after nearly dying from being mugged and getting the crap beaten out of him after being friend zoned by this 3rd-rate actress. It was basically the first step in his recovery after dealing with all that (including nearly killing himself the year before by cutting himself with his Emmy after another actress zoned him) He talks about it in a cool comic about that time period in his life.
I think the mystical villains were used as a vehicle to introduce Batman and Superman series’ fans to the mystical realm of DC as well bring in heroes like Fate and Etrigan to the audience. That’s why these villains have little depth and motivations compared to the main villains of the series.
You know, another little fun.Fact is, after he gets over his whole villain phase. He actually joins the teen titans for a bit I wish I could remember what comic it was But yeah, he was essentially a swap out for raven.
It was awesome he was used as a member of the seven soldiers of victory (his one shot had the best art IMO) when I first realized the BTAS character was indeed one and the same I was stunned.
I'll assume in your video on Etrigan next week, you'll be starting off with that Batman Adventures Annual story that chronicled their first meeting and team-up against Ra's al Ghul?
I love how almost everybody seems to agree that the Young Justice version of Klarion is the best iteration. And, personally, I wholeheartedly agree. The idea of taking him from a petulant child who uses his powers for the most basic things to an actual *Lord of Chaos* who serves as Doctor Fate's opposite was honestly genius. Especially since it makes Klarion even more threatening while punctuating *everything* that's alredy there for the character and it honestly just makes him *more fun* Klarion's antics are still childish and done for his own amusement, but also potentially disastrous on a worldwide scale and done with a degree of competence as now he's a being that can warp space, time & reality to an extent; while also having immense magical power. You really get the sense that literally the *only thing* holding him back is the fact that he is so disinterested in doing any real work. Otherwise he would have likely ended all life on Earth Milennias ago. Even more interesting is his relationship with Teekl. In a sense, they complete each other. Klarion is virtually invincible, but unfocused. Whereas Teekl is the voice of reason, but as his *anchor* to the physical world is both vulnerable and is his only *true* weakness. Which is fitting since Teekl is just about the only thing Klarion cares about more than himself & his own amusement. This, admittebly, adds an interesting level of relatability to him tbh. The idea that this supremely powerfull, inherently destructive, being of pure Chaos cares about his *cat* THAT much is weirdly wholesome.
I loved this character, because while The Superman Adventures had that weird Cthulu episode to introduce Dr. Fate, this was the Batman episode that introduced Magic. And while Superman goes on to HATE magic (so so much because it's a weakness) Batman just KNOWS the spell to bond Entrigan and Blood back together. The man did his homework.
I remember being really confused by this episode as a kid. The bratty kid villain who needs to be taught a lesson is a favorite character type for me, especially when they get a redemption arc, so I was wondering if they were setting something up. And then he never came back. TNBA was a confusing experience for us kids new to the Batman universe.
I liked this episode everything about it was a nice change of pace. Especially Karion, in a rogues gallery filled with sympathetic villians and ruthless sociopath's, it was nice to have a villian who was just simply a spoiled brat.
I wouldn't call him a favorite, but as someone with a lot of power and little real-world experience, I thought they treated him as to be expected. Unlike Wil Riker, who learned a lesson when given Q powers, Klariin hadcyet to learn his. There is a potential redemption arc there, which I doubt they will ever get to.
After having read 2005 version of Klarion, honestly, I'm down the rabbit hole. That was the definitive take on Klarion: debate of nihilism and absurdism, where Klarion represents the latter. On another note, YJ show (another prominent outing for the Witch-boy) can't handle neither Fate, nor Klarion. Their concepts of Order and Chaos are paper-thin, vapid, yet flashy. At least both have finally made an appearance against one another on the screen.
I think Young Justice did a better take on the character, but when I first watched this episode for the first time, I was more intrigued than anything else as this episode was my introduction to Etrogen and Klarion and I would imagine many others that haven't read the comics previously. While Klarion maybe just a footnote in the villain's rouge's gallery, he was more a fun character that we were never supposed to be taken seriously. He was a child with magic powers with childish desires all because he was a child with magic powers.
Klarion The Witchboy, young justice turn him into a god of chaos, which I think is the best version of him, i know a good video can't wait for the next one.
I saw people saying Klarion would definitely be ipad kid. But here I am wondering how bad he would be as a gamer. Like he would dox. Or straight up teleport into another players house out of sheer pettiness. Or keep his word about what he'll do to them after being insulted. Like bro would be a absolute menace to society if he ever went down that route.
I feel like Klarion was a bit of a missed opportunity. If the writers had found a way to use him as a warped mirror of Tim in some way, they could've used him to flesh out Robin's character
Young Justice Klarion will forever be the best take on the character.

Unless the villain is super tragic (or Joker) Lake does not care. In fact he seems to look down on villains with "simple" motives as if those kinds if badguys do not exist in the real world. Oh wait they actually do. Just saying.
You forgot to mention that he was one of the main villains in Young Justice
I didn’t talk about it because Young Justice is not part of the DC Animated Universe and it came out much later.
I know NOTHING about young justice, or Batman, or anything (besides your video topics
Oh I definitely recommend Young Justice since you're fond of Klarion. You're going to absolutely love him in it.
@@The_Phantasm I’ve watched compilations of him in young justice and I NEED to watch it, I sadly don’t have the time yet 😭
I knew there had to be SOMEONE
@@ChillipowwwThen be careful. The show has no proper conclusion just yet, and Seasons 3 and 4 are just... rough.
@@michaelandreipalon359 oh ☹️
I Hope This October You Talk About The Terrifying RatBoy, Starro The Conqueror And Terrific Trio
As always, another amazing video. Plus, I really appreciate how it fits the October/Halloween vibes for this month.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
"The Demon Within" was one of those Batman episodes that felt out of place to me, especially introducing these magical characters who Batman was somehow already familiar with. Superman's "The Hand of Fate" left me feeling equally as lost when Superman showed instant familiarity with Doctor Fate. It felt like I missed an episode somewhere.
Superman Met Fate in one of the Superman TAS adventures comics.
Ah. Required supplemental material.
OH MY GOD A VIDEO ABOUT MY SPECIAL LITTLE GUY? MY MOST FAVOURITEST LITTLE GREMLIN? we are truly blessed tonight we shall feast on this magnificent delicacy and weep at its beauty thank you very much chef serum lake for feeding us with this most delectable feast of which words may not describe its beauty
Kind of disappointed that you didn't talk about Klarion in Young Justice. In my opinion that was the best version of the character.
Klarion is a trickster character. One who enjoys messing things up for the pleasure of it, not for some grand plan. Kind of like a more powerful, but less malicious Joker. Thanks for the video.
Stop Klarion the witch boy is one of my fav DC characters it’s really cool to see you talk about him
i somehow merged Klarion The Witchboy with Mordred like complexly
His pet demon cat was my favorite part of this episode, honestly.
klarion becomes good if he is considered Dr Fates opposite. dr fate lord of order and klarion lord of chaos. makes both villians and heros. dark sied and dr fate would get along while klarion would hate dark sied. klarion likes joker, creeper, two face, dr fate would hate all three.
this allows klarion to be a pest to hero's villians alike since he could start rebellions and revolts everywhere (hawk & dove could be soldiers in chaos order war). dr fate could cause enslavement because it enforces order. klarion need to be fleshed out to be like Nezha legend. Dr fate cold dragon king.
"I want cake!" That was on my bingo card.
I vividly remember a comic book story by Doug Moench and Kelley Jones where the Joker started to dabble in magic. I think Etrigan was in that too…
Part of me likes this version and the Kirby version for just being a comically evil magic wielder; he’s a threat to a world beyond his dimension but given his age and personality, Klarion comedically subverts the chaotic villain role by simply using his powers for sadistic yet childish schemes.
As someone with a rough relation with Young Justice(I never liked making Zatanna a teenager) I do have to admit the version of Klarion from that show was much more fleshed out than in TAS who sadly only got one episode for himself
I’ve often wondered what an episode with Klarion and the Joker would look like, ever since I first saw his stint with the original royal flush’s Ace
I Hope You Talk About Villains Exclusive To The DCAU Comics Like Black Mask
9:30
Sure, until you get to young justice where he's a Lord of Chaos that throws down with Doctor Fate-
Not to mention the fight with Child
Turn my room light to scared or can and I like your designs and yes clearing reminds me of kid Loki
My favorite channel so glad I rewatched all the dcau then looking for videos it's so uplifting
"trying to Hadoken Batman out of existence"
I think this is one of your more funny videos and I love it cause I can't take this Brat serious too.😂
Besides Klarion, there is Mordred, the son of Morgan La Fey, from Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
I never thought about the fact the branding iron's original owner still being around.
Klarion is basically what you'd get if Jack Doherty or Johnny Somali were the kid from Brightburn.
I originally enjoyed this episode more for Blood than Klarion.
Klarion himself got a much more interesting update in later iterations, especially Young Justice. Which honestly improves this episode for me retroactively.
I know I'm early but for a second I thought I forgot about the great batman villain "Dork"
True Story: Paul Dini pitched the Sandman story after nearly dying from being mugged and getting the crap beaten out of him after being friend zoned by this 3rd-rate actress. It was basically the first step in his recovery after dealing with all that (including nearly killing himself the year before by cutting himself with his Emmy after another actress zoned him)
He talks about it in a cool comic about that time period in his life.
Klarion is one of those characters I encountered via Heroclix and haven't seen much of but thought was really neat.
Especially since it makes Klarion even more threatening while punctuating *everything* that's alredy there for the character and it honestly just makes him *more fun*
Klarion's antics are still childish and done for his own amusement, but also potentially disastrous on a worldwide scale and done with a degree of competence as now he's a being that can warp space, time & reality to an extent; while also having immense magical power.
I only have one thing to say...
Dexter's Lab, Mandark's Laugh, "Ah Ha Ha, Ah Ha Ha - Ha Ha!"
There are a lot Klarion now in the world.
For me Young Justice Klarion is his best version to date. From a brat with powers to a literal lord of chaos who’s a rival to Dr Fate.
after I saw the episode I immediately thought of him as the male version of Wednesday from the 90s movies
I'm surprised you didn't mention his depiction in Young Justice.
What are you talking about? “I want cake” is a perfect motivation.
So he steals only 4 cakes, how pathetic. No ambition, no Lex Luthor.
Am I the only one who wants a Klarion vs Damien Wayne story? I feel like they'd have an interesting dynamic.
Damien would break every bone in that dork’s body 😂
The Wayne Family Adventures webcomics might do that.
Klarions had something of a golden age in the more recent animated stuff. He appears a lot and causes a lot of issues
Not even a minute of discussion of how Klarion been adapted on Young Justice?
*laughs* that's why the cape crusader had that super natural episode. He was told not to do it before.
Maybe!
I like YJ Klarion more, it still evokes that extremely childish energy but in a "he could kill you, he's just playing with you" way
The young justice one was actually great. You are spitting that this one was not the guy he though he was.
6:10 heavens i sure wouldn't want to mis gender the God damn DEMON!
And people say I'm spooky for doing what I'm doing now and I used to do.
I Don't Suppose I Could Have Some Advice?
I saw people saying Klarion would definitely be ipad kid. But here I am wondering how bad he would be as a gamer. Like he would dox. Or straight up teleport into another players house out of sheer pettiness. Or keep his word about what he'll do to them after being insulted.
Like bro would be a absolute menace to society if he ever went down that route.
Your supposed to be
Annoyed 😅 when you see him. Think 🧐 if Caillou had devil powers
I never heard of this guy before Young Justice, so I keep thinking of him as Vandal Savage's partner.
Lordy, if there was any kid that needed a spanking, it was this kid.
SO DAMN CUTE!!!!
I feel like Klarion was a bit of a missed opportunity. If the writers had found a way to use him as a warped mirror of Tim in some way, they could've used him to flesh out Robin's character
You're not wrong about his haircut. 😂
Klarion is a powerhouse that is capable of taking on people like zattana and etrigan.
Amazing!🤩
