    My battery charger only has a fixed 8 amp rating at 12 volts. It does have a 6 volt setting which I assume reduces the amperage to 4 amps. Could I still use it to etch and what are the risks?

    Great video that cameo works wonders. Have you since this video gotten your own forge for heat treating you can get them relatively cheap or build one. Also I'd recommend using parks quenching oil over used motor oil, you'll end up with better results. Your etch looks amazing I was looking for tips on stepping up my etching skills thanks for this video.

      Thank you!! Yes I have a two burner Devil Forge and love it. Also have a heat treating oven for stainless. Will have to try out the parks. Always willing to try new things espec if it improves the end result. I have improved a bit since this video. Check out one of the newer etching videos ua-cam.com/video/kz9Z8tNdpVQ/v-deo.html

      @@DIYeasycrafts that's great to hear I'd like to upgrade to a 2 or 3 burner eventually. We also have an evenheat oven for SS and use large aluminum blocks to air quench. The parks 50 is a must for oil quenching you'll be much happier with the end result. Keep up the great work and videos.

    • @DIYeasycrafts
      @DIYeasycrafts  5 років тому

      Will do. Im using rectangular alumin tube for the plate quench. That way I can blow air through the tubes as well as between them. Will also try the solid

    • @603dougie603
      @603dougie603 5 років тому

      @@DIYeasycrafts the aluminum plates aren't cheap but large plates will suck the heat out instantly. After half a dozen knives though they will get warm. The thicker and bigger the better. We learned from Alan Folts which was a huge help getting us going. I think we ended up buying from ebay or something we got 2 blocks like 2" thick by 6" wide by 24" long so we could do longer fixed blades. Some people build guides to keep them level and ensure the knives are perfectly straight. I'm no pro but luckily have friends who are and who have helped us learn.

      A video with someone using something like matt frisk film, then transferring an image onto that film, and cutting with a craft knife, would probably be better for a novice.
      Someone who is first learning something needs to see it done at a basic level.

    You use wrong filters for Your 3m halfmask. You need to add anti small particle cover because Your current filters doesen't filter anything else than chemical vapor. I recomend see trough cover for current filters who clips ontop of them, but use regular medical mascs instead of 3m, because tney are too small.

    You should be able to (if you wish) harden first, then etch. The hardness (alignment of carbon molecules) should not effect electro-chemistry at all.
    Thanks for sharing your process with us!

    • @DIYeasycrafts
      @DIYeasycrafts  6 років тому

      Yes you absolutely can harden fisrt. I usually etch first because I think you end up with a darker etch after the heat treating.
