Even my surgeon didn’t explain things the way you do-with such patience, optimism, and genuine care. Your videos feel like therapy, and they’ve given me hope and courage. Hi Dr. Chung! Any tips on what to do when we finally get to the bathroom after holding it in for a long time? Because let's be honest, nobody's life is perfect and sometimes it happens....ouch....
Dr. Chung, I'm writing to inquire about potential advancements in the treatment of horseshoe anal fistulas. I understand that seton placement is a common management strategy, but I'm curious if there are any emerging technologies or novel treatments on the horizon that may offer more definitive solutions for this condition.
Why would I be constipated after a colonoscopy?? Never had problems with it until after my colonoscopy on Oct 17th. Due straining etc ended up with an anal fissure & hemorrhoid flare up.
For a good subject, can you please discuss about how to deal with hemorrhoids (and fissures, etc.) when you need to prepare for a colonoscopy? As everybody knows, you need to take the prep drink and we all know the rest. 🤭
Great tips to avoid trouble with hemorrhoids. I also found that sitting too much and lifting heavy objects requiring me to hold my breath needs to be avoided. Also, walking without lubricating the anus may cause pain from friction.
Hello Dr. Chung, I hope you're doing well. I wanted to ask for your advice. I had banding done about 3-6 months ago. Since then, I’ve had no pain and no more hemorrhoids, which is great. However, I still experience an irritating sensation around the anus. It feels as though the skin or muscles in that area might be too tight. Do you have any idea what might be causing this? I’ve returned to the specialist to discuss this sensation, but they were unsure of the cause. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or insights you might have. Thank you!
Absolutely, find your optimal level of fiber. I was having problems for years but I didn't know it and thought that it was normal. Hardly any regular fiber and I was frequently having the shits "that never wipe." My understanding is that if you don't have enough fiber for your own needs, then your body can fail to recognize when a movement ends, and so there is residual poop that remains just inside leading to itching or it can slowly gravitate outwards. Psyllium fiber changed my life, and I no longer have issues with pooping or wiping, but your mileage may vary. Perhaps TMI, but if this helps someone else then great. Dr. Chung is right, be nicer to your anus :)
Great channel, but i haven't seen anything that helps me. I'm doing all the right things. As i age, my issues are getting worse to the point where i have withdrawn from most activities and i never travel now. The emotional and mental stress is as bad, or worse, than the physical issues. I am so depressed and anxious that some days I wonder how i can continue. Doctors don't care unless you have cancer. I can't find any help. Some days i can't believe my life has come to this, focused on pain, my butt and bowel movements. Nothing on this channel has helped me yet.
Thank you for all your fantastic information! Currently on a 2 day "white" diet prior to a bowel cleanse for colonoscopy and botox. I know many of these white foods bung me up (already bloated!). Friday's cleanse is going to be hell for my fissure!!! Fingers crossed the procedure working to fix it 👍 Tips on bowel movement when you are botoxed would be helpful, as ive heard people getting thrombosed hemorrhoids post botox due to not being able to feel the muscle?
Thromboses hemorrhoids after botox is likely because the hemorrhoids were injured with the needle during the procedure. My protocol for botox injection definitely makes pooping much easier. Best of luck on your colonoscopy!
@@yourfriendlyproctologistI thought it would be to at first but, not at all.🤗 An old man told me about it one time, and in a moment of extreme desperation and pain from internal and external hemorrhoids and large inflamed rectal fissure, I gave it a shot years ago. @@yourfriendlyproctologist damage was caused by extreme childhood trauma, experienced between the ages of 6 and 11. I am now 60 years old, so the welcome relief was greatly needed and appreciated.
1.Using Devices on the Toilet: Prolonged sitting due to distractions like phones or tablets, causing blood pooling, swelling, and worsening hemorrhoid symptoms. Engaging with adrenaline-inducing content can also interfere with proper muscle relaxation. 2. Forcing Poop Out: Straining can damage the muscles and tissues of the anus, often caused by stress, rushing, or a disrupted routine. Poop should come naturally without excessive effort. 3. Holding Poop Too Long: Delaying bowel movements forces the anus to remain tightly closed, leading to difficulty relaxing later and making the process more painful. 4. Excessive Wiping: Over-wiping or using rough methods can damage the sensitive skin around the anus. Instead, use gentle cleaning options like bidets or showers, especially during diarrhea or when stools are soft and greasy. 5. Overindulging in Problematic Foods and Drinks: Spicy foods, alcohol, and other triggers can irritate the bottom end. Moderation helps prevent discomfort the next day. 6. Panicking During Crises: Anxiety about constipation or pain causes muscle clenching, worsening symptoms. Stay calm, breathe deeply, and assess if medical attention is needed. 7. Doing Extreme Cleanses: Cleanses that induce diarrhea can exacerbate bottom-end issues like hemorrhoids and fissures. Avoid them if you already have such problems. 8. Using Harsh Soaps or Products: Harsh soaps can dry out or irritate the anal area. Opt for gentle, unscented products to maintain proper hygiene. 9. Avoiding Medical Attention: Ignoring persistent or severe symptoms can lead to worsening conditions. Seek help early from a qualified professional. 10, Ignoring Lifestyle Adjustments: Poor habits like sitting too long, lack of fiber, dehydration, or insufficient exercise impact bottom-end health. Small changes can significantly improve overall well-being.
So, sanding away with an entire roll of toilet paper when things go mushy is out, I guess that means I also should discontinue using that angle grinder too. ;) As for massive diet shifts, well, that's somewhat my daily meal - sort of. I don't do carnivore carnival nonsense, but I will vary my diet daily, with occasional evening meals nearly fiberless (tonight, having ravioli with my home made and pressure canned pasta sauce and a literal palm full of meat, tomorrow I'm thinking chicken, potatoes (still arguing over white potato, white yam or orange yam with myself) chicken and greens and most evening meals will feature greens. Oddly, doesn't anger my recently diagnosed Crohn's, where some flares, well we're talking Bristol 6 - 7 unpleasantness and those are currently addressed with oral steroids, generating flatus enough to fully perform all orchestra sections of the 1812 Overture - plus the artillery if I get something high in sugar, start a TNF-alpha inhibiting biological at the end of the week and I'll see with doctor about when we'll start to taper that infernal steroid off (and if we might want to monitor my thyroid hormone levels, as I also have Graves disease that has hospitalized me twice with a thyrotoxic crisis). Of course, always consulting doctor, as I didn't have a residency in that field, doctor did. I did body and fender, internal corrosion and processing replacements (OK, trauma, infectious and vector borne diseases and a smattering of OB/GYN and very light pediatric work as an advanced military medic). If I'm stuck in park on the porcelain throne, I'll bring my e-book or paper book, e-book is better, as it's waterproof in case of mishap. I do miss my old villa when I was contracting overseas though, saved on angle grinder wheels - or was that paper products, as my bathrooms had a bidet. That came in handy when I contracted a rather unpleasant worm infection, which ivermectin cleared up, but sanitizing via the bidet at least confined any potential ova to the sewage treatment plant. But, I do agree, moderation in all things, including moderation. Just avoid excesses and especially, an excess of excesses. Oh, entertainingly, other than canned veggies, I don't do processed foods much. It's all as much from scratch as I can get fresh. During a four month Crohn's flare, where doctor finally listened (doctor being a final year resident was a bit preoccupied by things that could quite literally kill me and hence, wasn't listening as closely as might be preferred, as well as sudden variability in my BP (with hypertension that was previously well managed) and my sodium, chloride and magnesium levels were dangerously deficient. Doctor gave a directive to eat processed foods. I excavated my salt cellar, magnesium was prescribed as a supplement and the gastroenterologist appointment made on a short fuse. Electrolytes are happy again, although I am surprised that my calcium and potassium levels were dead center "normal" range.
not diagnosed but i think i had anal fissure since i was a kid but it wasn't really painful besides when i was 2 and it was just there like the skin part and now I'm turning 18 and god it's so hard to poop for me like i hate going to the bathroom, I am getting it checked on like 17 jan something but i wanted to mention something I POOPED TODAY AND IT DID'T HURT SM AND I AM SO HAPPY. also idk why I had constipation my whole life I do think It's ibs-c but my parents never cared too much about me and now i am finally pressuring my mom to get it checked with me, i had only pooped once a week for the past months....I will give more info after I get it checked. Also eating less fiber actually helped me i think because my mom got like a flour that has fiber in it like added ones so i hadn't ate that for a few days and my poop was more soft and less bulky. DO GET IT CHECKED IF YOU HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AS MINE THO BEACUSE IT DOES EFFECT MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH A LOT. I had lost so much weight, hair and my mental health has been worse and also i think a few months ago i got SA-ed so that gave me a lot of anxiety which my doctor just gave me a pain med for because my chest was hurting a lot so i do advise that taking care of your mental health can be helpful

Hope the 17th goes well for you.
